Love my 40th so far. The handling is indeed the best part and first time ive had a variable ratio rack. The car just turns in harder the more input you give and makes it feel more enthusiastic. I leave it in the stiffest setting 90% of the time. It's punchy for me in stock form power wise but i'm sure ill get an itch to tune it. The turbo is also changed from the mk7 but I don't think it's larger, just more efficient. Still has just as huge tuning potential.
The handling is certainly where it’s at! I can totally understand why you have a desire to tune it though. All I’ve heard is that the potential of these cars once they are opened up is absolutely enormous compared to stock form. Either way, I hope you thoroughly enjoy your 40th MK8! UA-cam channel 'VancityAudi' did dyno testing on this model, testing 87 and 93 Octane and the 93 made NO more power, actually a negligible amount less. The cR was 100% STOCK. Very bizarre, but fantastic news for those not wanting to break the bank on premium gas; cause there is now no reason to waste your money.
That is very interesting!! I’d say you are right that it is very bizarre for the fact that modern turbo German cars typically ALWAYS require 93. What’s not bizarre is that if VW in fact did recommend regular only, rather than premium at all, I would expect that the car wouldn’t make any more power at all with 93, just as it has been with pretty much every other car in the past. I’m not exactly sure what VW said specifically regarding the GTI whether using 93 claimed to make more power or not. However, I was certain that it said you can use 87, so I guess that’s the recommended octane! Obviously, we all know that this is an ongoing debate. But, it’s pretty much been proven that higher octane doesn’t increase horsepower. Higher octane gasoline only has a higher resistance to compression before detonation. That’s pretty much it! It’s used in higher HP/higher-end cars, but it is not to make more horsepower, it is to limit pre-detonation or engine knock in a higher compression engine. I think that’s where a lot of the misconception comes from. Thank you for letting me know that about the GTI though! That’s very interesting to hear. Also, I very much hope you enjoyed the video. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviewswell, it’s not hard to believe because it’s not a matter of the engine or turbo. It’s a matter of the vehicles tuning. And from the factory, it’s tuned to be used with 87oct. So to put anything more than 87oct in it is pointless. Matter of fact, my MK7 GTI is advertised to use 91oct gas. So I used it, but I eventually started using my car for work more (unfortunately during this current USA Presidents term, aka high gas prices). I was already FBO IS38 and custom tuned. So I contacted my tuner if he could make an 87oct tune for me. He said no problem. With this tune, it will be slower than my 91oct tune file(s), but that didn’t matter to me because this was going to be my “work tune”. Most importantly, it allowed me to buy cheaper fuel without hurting my engine, because it would be tuned for 87oct (using a lower octane on a higher octane file isn’t good). Well, I’ve been running this time for over 2 years, and I even have an 87oct file using my WMI. Yeah, a 91oct file with WMI would be faster (probably 20hp more over 87oct), but I don’t care. Tbh, my 87oct WMI file is faster than my previous 91oct files (without WMI). And my 87oct WMI file maxes out at 26psi, while my non-WMI 91oct files maxed out at 27.5psi. So basically what I’m saying is it’s a matter of the vehicles tuning on what oct of gas the car can take. Whatever octane the vehicle is tuned for, it doesn’t make any sense to add higher octane to it, because you won’t gain any power from it because it’s not tuned for it.
Gas is high all around the world and has nothing to do with sleepy joe and everything to do with the billions lost over the pandemic so oil companies are just getting back what the lost.

Still not sold on the four banger. Had multiple VR6 VW 1997 passat VR6 2001 GTI VR6 2004 R32 The GTI look's nice but I just love the music 🎶 from the VR6 engine.
Hey, I totally get you! The VR6 has to be one of the most glorious sounding engines ever, let alone it being a V6. I'm not sure how they did that, because V6s are typically not easy to make sound really good, but they absolutely nailed it with that one. This car definitely does not sound even close to that magnificent, but I will say it was still a very fun car to drive nonetheless. I'm sure it will sound even cooler when Jeremy opens this car up a bit with a cold air intake and a serious tune. Also, I still hope you enjoyed my review video. I haven't put an aftermarket exhaust on a car in years. How is Massachusetts with inspection these days? I'm thinking the Clubsport muffler would probably pass without a problem.
Mass has unfortunately cracked down heavily on inspections over the last few years. However, if it's a legit cat-back/axle-back from a reputable brand, I don't think it would have an issue passing. It's not like you're straight-piping up or anything like lolll. Best rule of thumb is to always keep the stock exhaust, just in case you have to bolt it back on to get a sticker. It's certainly annoying, but for some, being legal is worth the hassle. I used to know a guy who had a 700WHP MK5 Supra with full bolt-ons, E85 and upgraded turbos. This man paid his shop to have it COMPLETELY converted back to stock, de-tuned, and everything else necessary to pass inspection EVERY year. Then, have it put all back together to make 700 wheel again! Can you believe that?!? But hey, he didn't want an issue having a car like that without a legal sticker, and he could afford it. 🤷♂️ Best of luck with your exhaust endeavors though! I have this exact same model down to the color. I was curious to see how a black spoiler would look on it. I have an oettinger spoiler on the way. I love the car and it's really fun to drive. My only two complaints are the lack of storage and the climate screen times out after a few seconds. I really miss the driver side mini glove box on the previous generation. On a car this small, I would rather have all manual seats with two storage compartments under the seats. I did get a little shelf on for the phone compartment and 4 storage trays for all the doors. I would like to mention that I have had zero problems with the touch sensitive steering wheel. Great and thorugh review!
What color will your oettinger spoiler be? I like the look of that style. The new GTI really is super fun to huck around corners. I just really wish launch control was more dramatic! I definitely agree with you about having manual seats with storage underneath them too. Many times, I would rather have lighter weight, and more practicality on top of that rather than one simple luxury. And yes, the climate controls were obviously also not my favorite. However, Jeremy mentioned to me that he just sets it to auto and then doesn't touch it. He said the best way to use it is to touch it as little as possible! The 0 to 60 time of 5 seconds seems off as the official time is 6.2 seconds...Is there some sort of difference in testing for the US as this would make the GTI faster that a Type R which does 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds...
Hi there! To be perfectly honest, when I was doing the research for this video, I believe that the information that I got was just off. I really love the mk8 styling. I have a 24 Civic Si that I like but it’s just a dog. The tune really helps wake it up but once you hit 300hp you need head studs. Not really looking to do that so looking towards the GTI. Great review!

It's because most people either can't afford R or price per value just isn't there to justify purchase unlike Hyundai N models, so WV focus more on gti because it sells the most
@i.d.6492 that still doesn't say much. The more expensive golf r should look aesthetically better, but I agree the gti, especially the mk7.5 is beautiful.
And for some the R is a hard sell because it's in a different price class, so even if they can afford it, they'd choose a different car at that price point. @@GLI_1701

I’d say that would probably make it cost $5k-ish more at that point. And, that’s what the Golf R is for pretty much. That is supposed to have a starting MSRP of $46k USD. After doing some quick research, the BMW 330i LCI has 255 HP and 295 TQ. It's 0-60 is around 5.6 secs in the RWD model, and 5.4 secs in the xDrive. I'd say it's probably very close to the GTI. A while ago, the GTI was rated for around 5 secs, but that definitely seems way off to me now that I have driven it. It's certainly more around the 5.6 to 6.2 range that it is rated for now, which I have found out after further research. It certainly didn't throw you back in your seat from a full throttle dig. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews thanks for replying my guy! I ordered a 2024 GLI and the 0-60 time for it confuses me. The website says its 6.1 seconds, but other places say 5.8 seconds. Then some websites say it can use Regular 87, then others say that you gotta use 91 premium.
@@backtoshallabal6662 Not a problem man! Yeah, you would be astonished with how much misinformation there is out there, even this day and age. If you can imagine me trying to do research for all of my review videos. Imagine trying to look up a simple fact of a 0-60 time, and you get 2 or 3 different answers. I believe the discrepancies come from people doing their own testing with different road conditions, weather, and even altitude settings. I understand how there can be differences, but it can be pretty frustrating nonetheless. I have found out that the best method of approach is to gather as much information as you can, sort out the “average” of all of the readings so to speak, and then actually drive the car myself, and then form my opinion and see if it all adds up based on all of those factors. I will tell you this, the GTI is definitely not in the low 5 sec range. As far as what fuel to use goes, always check your owners manual. That is going to be what the manufacturer recommends. And if your car isn’t designed to use higher octane fuel, I wouldn’t use it, because it’s just a waste of money at that point. Enjoy your new GLI man!

Well i gave my 2008 GTI as a trade in. They gave me $4000 for that. Plus another $2500 so $6500 downpayment. The rate is 8.3. Idk it just seemed a little to pricey but i went ahead and pulled the trigger. It’s a nice car but i feel like i got screwed.

Perhaps! Sometimes, I feel like automakers do that for whatever reason. It might just be something with the difference between higher versus lower octane fuel. VW recommends using 87 octane and doesn't suggest anything higher in the manual, like the last gen did. Unless you have a tune goin on in that car, it's a total waste of money putting anything more than 87. It's not gonna make the car go faster like a Mazda turbo does.

Yeah, that would be cool. It wasn’t so much the power, especially at the top end that was the biggest gripe to me. I felt like the power was relatively satisfactory, especially for it being rated at 241. Sure, 350 or 400 would’ve been amazing, but that is asking a lot for a stock one of these. It was the fact that it doesn’t let you fully turn traction control off and spin the tires if you wanted to. Especially under a full throttle launch, it cut power tremendously if it detected any wheel spin. It almost felt neutered in a sense for that reason. As far as a bigger turbo goes, i’m sure that would be great, but wouldn’t be my first fix. I would say to VW, if the driver wants to turn off traction control, let them turn off traction control. Don’t put a button there if it’s not going to mean anything. That’s just my two cents! Also, I very much hope you enjoyed the video nonetheless! Flooring it in first from a stop, loss of traction occurred because that was wheel hop you were feeling 😂 an upgraded transmission mount will fix this. You’ll likely get more wheelspin with more power but at least the wheel hop will be mitigated. Had similar situation on my Focus ST. FWD nature with all that torque!
So I think you are totally right regarding wheel hop/wheel spin, but I promise you what I felt in that specific pull wasn’t just loss of traction. The traction control definitely kicked in and cut power, I guarantee it. I really disagree with cars being made that claim they have a function that supposedly turns off traction control, but actually doesn’t. I say, let the driver do that at their own risk! If the automaker is not willing to allow that, then don’t even offer a traction control off button in the first place. That’s just my opinion. Regarding what you were saying though about FWD cars, that definitely does happen sometimes, especially if the tires aren’t up to par. A lot of FWD cars can be super fun, but wheel hop, understeer and torque steer are all just part of how they operate. My Honda Accord V6 6-speed has WICKED torque steer as well as understeer. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews I have an Audi S3 8Y granted it’s haldex (Quattro) but when launching it you need traction control off. Although this golf is FWD it’s probably the same. @@garethc78 So the crazy thing is we did have both traction control and stability control turned completely off according to what the GTI said on the drive mode screen. Jeremy and I just came to the conclusion that the ECU won't ever let you truly break loose in a stock tune form. He's just going to get it tuned, and hopefully that will help. I don't live near him in MA anymore, but I do fly back every once in a while to visit the area, so maybe I'll do a follow up review once he gets his GTI fully built to where he wants it! Do you mean the Golf R? Eh, I'd say it all depends on what you are looking for, and what you are willing to spend of course. The golf bar has a lot of perks including 75 more horsepower, a nicer interior, and AWD. If you're willing to spend an extra $15k on that, if not more based on mark-ups and what not, some people say it'd be worth it. Some would say definitely not too! Let me know what you think. I see the appeal to redesign and make things better. But in my opinion the MK7.5 was the pinnacle of the GTI. I could live with the new exterior but the interior is horrible. VW killed the soul of the GTI with that design.
I can respect that! For me, it’s really the climate controls, and some of the other buttons that really turned me off. Other than that though, I thought this was a great car. I have not driven a MK7 refresh like the one you just said yet. But, hopefully one day I will so I can compare. Despite exterior looks, and even interior design, I still felt like this was an excellent driver’s car. Not very powerful, or fast off of the line. However, shifts were very quick, and corners felt FANTASTIC for I was expecting out of this car. Overall, the MK8 proved itself to be an excellent enthusiast daily driver for the money IMO. As an ex IS38 Stage 3 7.5 GTi owner, I strongly disagree. MK8 is better is almost every single way. Yeah the infotainment is gimicky, other than that, the MK8 is better.
@@tiltedtoken1450 why is it better? "Better" is very subjective. If you look at just the numbers maybe but a car is more than it's numbers that's the whole principle of the GTI. The 8 isn't as attractive as the 7, can't fit 6 ft people in the back seat without hitting their head on the 7 that isn't an issue plus the whole heptic feedback crap VW is putting into their cars. For people that just drive a stock car and put kids in their car everyday and haul friends and gear? I will take the 7 all day long over the 8.
Mk8 have better tuning ability and performance gains vs the mk7.5 but the mk7 is by far a smoother, more legitimate gti imo. They are taking away what the gti is.
What do you mean specifically? Jeremy does have a Miltech cat-back exhaust, so that certainly changes the sound quite a bit compared to stock. His is louder with some more pops, burbles and crackles. However, as far as in-line 4-cylinder turbo motors with a DCT go, it sounds rather normal I would say. I hope that helps, and answers your question! @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews I guess all the pops and burbles and crackles. I didn’t like that sound actually when people put exhaust on to make extra loud I’m not in agreement with that.
@@troigrl Gotcha. I respect your opinion! Personally, I think a few pops and bangs, especially on a downshift, or if you let off throttle just at the right spot in the rpm range is very fun to listen too. I have heard many people’s exhaust that have gotten way out of hand though. Some people turn it all the way up to 11 and it sounds like someone set off a wheel of firecrackers behind their car. I agree that it can be taken too far very quickly. Thanks for commenting though! It’s always good to hear my viewers opinions. Hope you enjoy the video either way. 😁
my gti autobahn had a msrp of $41.800 but i got it for $39.900 i would never pay over a msrp as people were doing as this was back in december of 2021 and it’s a 2022 model year but i love this 40th more i think it looks better.

For the 40th edition, I don't think you can unfortunately. I didn't mind the look of them personally. I guess Volkswagen really just wanted to try to differentiate the 40th compared to all of the other trims, but not make the graphics an optional choice. Launch control on these stock is pretty useless. I think they limit the torque off rip to save the clutches. I think once the TCU is unlocked and we can tune them with a stage 2 trans file we'll see much better use of the LC since they can increase the clamping force of the clutches with software. I'm pretty sure you can get better launches just hammering it off idle in sport mode.
Yes, exactly! Jeremy plans on getting his tuned eventually. Hopefully I can do a follow video once he gets it all done up! I would love to see this car actually be able to put down the power properly. It’s very interesting that it has to do with the transmission, specifically the clamping forces of the clutches more so than anything. Makes perfect sense though. As Jeremy said, the way that launch control works on a stock tune is pretty much just in a way to have less stress on the drivetrain. Pretty lame, but at least they are certainly tunable! I’m excited to see that. For a stock tune launch, it is certainly better to just stomp the throttle. Also, I very much hope you enjoyed the video! Great review - no nonsense and straight to the point(s). My opinion - the styling of the interior is too spartan and ugly. The touch screen everything is a PITA. My previous experience owning a 2008 Rabbit found all the door panel fabric and headliner glue failure 2 years into ownership was a major disappointment and makes all VW interior quality suspect. Would love to own one of these for the driving experience but most likely will not - especially at that price point.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that. In my opinion, I feel like the interior was OK. I certainly liked the seats. Cupholders were cool too! I also really liked the RGB interior lighting. The dashboard/design was very boring though. What's funny is that the owner of this GTI, Jeremy, was adamant that this interior was leaps and bounds ahead of the Hyundai Elantra N. After sitting in an Elantra N at the Miami International Auto Show, I felt that they were practically on par with each other, if not the Hyundai being even better. I'd have to drive one and poke around it for a good bit to get a proper opinion comparing both of them though. As far as the touchscreen goes, yes I completely agree with you, and I also do not like it. There is no reason that climate controls should have to be integrated into the infotainment system. I hate that auto makers do that nowadays. I just want to turn a knob and be done with it. And that is absolutely absurd that the glue failed so quickly. Did you get that fixed under warranty? That is much too soon for the interior to start falling apart. Hopefully their build quality has significantly improved since then. If you want a great car to drive around this price point (or less), I would check out all of the GTI's competitors! Take a look at the Elantra N, the Civic SI, the even the WRX! Test driving them all, and then sitting down to compare all of the numbers, along with the pros and cons of each is the best way to figure out which car is right for you. Good luck! The MK8 GTI is so much larger than the small hatchback it once was. I drove a MK4 for years, drive an MK6 now. The MK8 almost looks like a minivan compared to the old GTI models. The price of MK8 GTI is also way too high. A GTI is supposed to be the affordable sports car.
You are probably right. According to my research before this video, that’s what it was rated for with the DCT. However, after driving it myself, I 100% believe that it was at the very best high 5 second, but more likely the low 6 second range when we were doing our launches. Not a problem! And I hope that one day I can get my hands on a really clean MK7 so I can do a comparison myself! As I said in the video, my favorite modern GTI was the MK7 as well. However, I have to admit that the MK8 really has grown on me! I’ll never be a fan of the capacitive touch climate controls. Although, the car was otherwise an absolute blast to drive for what it was! We will see how this one holds up for Jeremy! Hopefully it does well for him. Any modern car is always a HUGE question mark, mainly due to the vast amount of electronics, and all of the super complicated safety systems that go into them nowadays compared to older cars. Many would argue that they are damn near planned obsolescence now. Look at my Miata, for instance! Extremely well thought out car from top to bottom, but not over complicated with its build. Still running strong 34 years later! I feel like some of the older VW diesels are like that too. I’ve heard of some with manual transmissions that go over 250k miles as daily drivers, and still keep on chugging without much complaining at all. Definitely not the case for any new car! Hopefully, this GTI will be good to Jeremy though. I’d say for at least 5+ years, right? Anyway, thank you so much for checking out my video! I've been driving my 2013 MK6 GTI daily since I bought it new. 11 Years later and 213,000 miles, the car is hands down the best car I've ever owned. I've replaced next to nothing on this car. I too was skeptical though, as VW, Audi, BMW and Mercedes all have a reputation for high maintenance costs and questionable reliability. I either got really lucky, or things have changed a bit over the years.
@@Fmandan77 That's amazing to hear that you've had such good luck with you GTI! With that track record, I would keep that thing until the wheels fall off! To be perfectly honest though, it does seem like you've got a unicorn 😅 I've rarely heard of people having such strong reliability from most gasoline German cars. Diesel on the other hand, different story! I've personally a few driven TDIs that had well over 250k miles and were still running like champs. Thanks for sharing and commenting on my video! 😎
I think I lucked out in that I bought a 2013 rather than an earlier model. For example the 2012s and possibly years prior had timing-chain tensioner issues which could easily cause an engine failure if not addressed. By 2013 that issue was resolved. Additionally, the EA888 gen 1 engines had a mechanical cam follower, whereas the gen 2 engines (like I have) use a roller cam follower which doesn't wear out and cause engine damage. As we speak, I'm replacing my timing chain, the tensioner and guides. It's a big job, but at 213K miles and plans to keep the car, why wait for something to break? It's a preventative measure that is probably overdue. I'm a decent mechanic and I think that too helps as I've kept the car up without letting anything go ignored for too long.@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews
I’ve owned 3 GTI’s and although they’re great they are the most overpriced car in the world. In New York this car is pushing closer to $50k than $40k, which is beyond absurd. Might as well get an RS3 at that point.
Hmmm interesting. $40k for this exact model is clearly way too much when the autobahn has an MSRP of that. Is that purely just due to mark-ups? That really is despicable. And when you say New York, are you talking about NYC, or somewhere else? And you're definitely not getting a brand new RS3 for that price, but a used one maybe! That’s just the world we live in. 🤷♂️ Hopefully things will even out eventually, right?
I hear your point. What would you say is the best value GTI ever then at it's MSRP? Also, the manufacturer stated that you apparently can run 87 octane in it! The owner of this one, Jeremy, does not. However, that's what it's rated for! Do you have any other prior knowledge or experience that would go against using 87 octane in this car? I'm just genuinely curious. Exactly, if VW states the engine is fine on 87, then it's fine on 87, they would never take a chance on a turbo charged car if they didn't design it for that octane level. However, on 87, if I heard detonation even once during acceleration, that would be the last fill-up with 87 octane as it will quickly shorten the lifespan of your rod bearings. I run 89 in my MK6 GTI with no issues. I ran 87 once, and it detonated under acceleration so I don't chance it. @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews
@@Fmandan77 I agree! We all can assume that the manufacture wouldn't (or at least REALLY shouldn't ) recommend something that the vehicle would respond well to. I was amazed to hear that though considering it is a modern German turbocharged car! However, like you said, if you ever heard or felt any sort of premature detonation or knocking, I would immediately put mid-grade or premium in it, and never run 87 octane again.
I believe additional knock protection is wasted $ unless the stock ecu advances timing to take advantage of it (power). Higher octane fuel might have more cleaning additives that might delay having to clean the intake valve carbon buildup. I plan to do seafoam treatments every 20-30k + seafoam injector cleaner in every 2nd or 3rd tank. Still I saw a video where a guy did just that + ran premium and still had significant carbon at 10k. Appears there's just no escaping it in GDI engines.
Hey, I guess the Germans don’t deviate that much? Lol personally, I feel like they have a little bit of a different look from one another.
Sick bro!

Best of luck with your exhaust endeavors though! Thanks for checking out the video as well. Please feel free to leave a like and subscribe to the channel if you enjoyed it. Thanks so much! -Mark 😎
Did u do much aftermarket stuff to it? It seems like a fun car to own 😊
What color will your oettinger spoiler be? I like the look of that style. The new GTI really is super fun to huck around corners. I just really wish launch control was more dramatic! I definitely agree with you about having manual seats with storage underneath them too. Many times, I would rather have lighter weight, and more practicality on top of that rather than one simple luxury. And yes, the climate controls were obviously also not my favorite. However, Jeremy mentioned to me that he just sets it to auto and then doesn't touch it. He said the best way to use it is to touch it as little as possible! Lol

It's insane that the GTI actually has a better body style and aesthetics than the R model. How did VW mess this up
It's because most people either can't afford R or price per value just isn't there to justify purchase unlike Hyundai N models, so WV focus more on gti because it sells the most
The reason the GTI has such a big following is the Golf R is just too expensive for most people
@i.d.6492 that still doesn't say much. The more expensive golf r should look aesthetically better, but I agree the gti, especially the mk7.5 is beautiful.
And for some the R is a hard sell because it's in a different price class, so even if they can afford it, they'd choose a different car at that price point. @@GLI_1701

is this quicker than a stock 2023 LCI 330i?
After doing some quick research, the BMW 330i LCI has 255 HP and 295 TQ. It's 0-60 is around 5.6 secs in the RWD model, and 5.4 secs in the xDrive. I'd say it's probably very close to the GTI. A while ago, the GTI was rated for around 5 secs, but that definitely seems way off to me now that I have driven it. It's certainly more around the 5.6 to 6.2 range that it is rated for now, which I have found out after further research. It certainly didn't throw you back in your seat from a full throttle dig. If they underrated the GTI hp, could they have underrated the 2023 GLI Jetta as well?
Perhaps! Sometimes, I feel like automakers do that for whatever reason. It might just be something with the difference between higher versus lower octane fuel. I believe the dyno run that Jeremy told me about was using 93 octane. If you are using 87 octane, maybe the horsepower numbers are more accurate to what VW rated them originally. Hi we’re you the guy who had trouble with the neighbour and a mustang ?
Hello there! Thankfully, I did not! I believe you have the wrong guy.
VW recommends using 87 octane and doesn't suggest anything higher in the manual, like the last gen did. Unless you have a tune goin on in that car, it's a total waste of money putting anything more than 87. It's not gonna make the car go faster like a Mazda turbo does.
Yep! Makes perfect sense. Thank you for the clarification. During my research, I wasn’t sure whether they only recommended 87, or they gave you the option.

Isn't higher octane cleaner for a car and better for longevity?
In Germany they advise to put 98 octane in it to have the full performance ;)
How is that possible? My MK7 GTI is the 40 th year edition, it has the badge in the rear window.
It's simple, your car has a secret salvage title and you were ripped off
Are you in Europe? The GTI has been sold there longer than in the US / Canada.
It’s a shame it’s not based on the clubsport with the bigger continental turbo.

That’s possibly the reason the ECU cut power on launch as TCS/Stabilty control kicked in. If you get the chance launch this car again with TCS off I’m curious to see if that helps somewhat.
@@garethc78 So the crazy thing is we did have both traction control and stability control turned completely off according to what the GTI said on the drive mode screen. We tried it multiple times, and I couldn't get the car to light up the tires on a full throttle dig. Question: Do we really need R?

Is it normal for the engine to sound like that
What do you mean specifically? Jeremy does have a Miltech cat-back exhaust, so that certainly changes the sound quite a bit compared to stock. His is louder with some more pops, burbles and crackles. However, as far as in-line 4-cylinder turbo motors with a DCT go, it sounds rather normal I would say.

Not a fan of mk8 body style and glossy trims. But no real handbrake oh no...or maybe I'm too oldschool lol
I totally agree with you on the lack of a manual handbrake... It's a shame, but that's just the way that modern technology is going. I 100% agree that a manual handbrake will always be so much more reliable than an electronic one.

Front the side it looks like chevy sonic

Jeremy looks like Alfred E. Neuman... "What Me Worry?"

A GTI is supposed to be the affordable sports car.
it wont do 5s to 60. do a dragy on it i bet its in the 6s
You are probably right. According to my research before this video, that’s what it was rated for with the DCT. However, after driving it myself, I 100% believe that it was at the very best high 5 second, but more likely the low 6 second range when we were doing our launches.

I like the outside better but the inside is just urgh
The mk7 for me is the best looking gti ever
Thanks for the review though
Not a problem! And I hope that one day I can get my hands on a really clean MK7 so I can do a comparison myself! As I said in the video, my favorite modern GTI was the MK7 as well. However, I have to admit that the MK8 really has grown on me! I’ll never be a fan of the capacitive touch climate controls. Although, the car was otherwise an absolute blast to drive for what it was! I thought it was an excellent jack-of-all-trades enthusiast car.

VWs.. no problem buying them... keeping them running for 5-10 years is the billion dollar question mark.

@@Fmandan77 it's a unicorn most likely.. I know many that failed miserably...mine included... I just can't put my money into getting one again.
Value and Volkswagen in the same sentence 🧐😂
I’ve owned 3 GTI’s and although they’re great they are the most overpriced car in the world. In New York this car is pushing closer to $50k than $40k, which is beyond absurd. Might as well get an RS3 at that point.
Hmmm interesting. $40k for this exact model is clearly way too much when the autobahn has an MSRP of that. Is that purely just due to mark-ups? That really is despicable. And when you say New York, are you talking about NYC, or somewhere else? And you're definitely not getting a brand new RS3 for that price, but a used one maybe! I have actually done a review on a 2018 RS3, and I absolutely loved it. Feel free to check it out if you would like!

Good luck getting a new RS3 for 50k lol
Every car nowadays is either marked up or had their MSRP increased compared to the previous gen
@@WitchYuki22 Yeah, exactly. A used one though, maybe! New ones start at $62k. You are right. Unfortunately, everything has become exceptionally more expensive compared to how things used to be, even just compared to us a few years ago. You know what hasn’t gone up though? Our wages! That’s just the world we live in. 🤷♂️ Hopefully things will even out eventually, right?
Opinions opinions opinions. Most of these videos negate the buying decision more than helping.
It’s a nice car but too expensive to be the best value GTI ever. Please don’t run 88 gas in it though.

Man it sucks when all the cars looks the same. The interior is every bmw every audi
Hey, I guess the Germans don’t deviate that much? Lol personally, I feel like they have a little bit of a different look from one another. The higher trim BMWs and Audis are definitely much more sophisticated and elegant than the lower trims. I still hope you enjoyed the review video either way! @@DoubleClutchAutoReviews I did definitely. Thanks it's just I wish they would make it different especially the special trim levels
@@samjohnson2801 Awesome! Thank you so much. Yeah, the major difference between the Autobahns interior versus the rest of them are the seats. Granted, which are very nice, but there’s not much more to it than that as far as materials go.
@@DoubleClutchAutoReviews yeah they are nice
Hate the tacky decals on the side. Ruins it.
Yeahh it's a bit much.
And this is why no one drives my cars!
@@Hoffmankustoms I appreciate your input. However, just so you are aware, everything I do with all of the cars I drive is with the owner’s complete permission! For proof, the owner is sitting right next to me in this very car, and had no problem with what I was doing! I was having fun with the car, but also being relatively respectful IMO. Also, I don’t do anything really crazy or heavily beat on anyone’s car. If you don’t drive your beautiful classics like they are meant to be driven, then that’s a shame. Hopefully you can properly enjoy your cars one day! They’re not museum pieces. They’re meant to be driven and enjoyed. 👍
It’s a VW. The only value will be getting price break on overpriced parts for it. Can buy so much better
What do you mean by that? Sure, of course you could always buy so much better. After all, it’s only a $35,000 car. Please feel free to explain what you mean in a sense when you compared to it’s rivals around the same price range.
