The old scientist from Viktor's childhood is Singed, the same man who is working with Silco in the first three episodes.

i actually love that Caitlyn gives up her gun, I feel like it says so much about her character. At this point, she knows how dangerous the lanes are, and she’s in this unfamiliar hostile place. But at the realization that she might lose the chance to get Vi medicine, she gives up her most prized possession. This isn’t just any gun, either- we see her with it in her family portrait earlier in the show, and during her shooting competition, meaning this is likely HER gun, a priceless family heirloom perhaps, or at least a weapon of high significance to her- a warrior’s weapon. Almost like an extension of her character. But she’s willing to give it up with almost no hesitation to save someone in need, someone she cares about. And I think that says a lot about how compassionate of a person she is. love!!

yes. a beautiful call back to the advice Grayson gave her at the beginning of ep 5. What is her gun for but to help those in need?

And it seems that since Csit doesn't have a gun... Oops that would be a spoiler for next episode. Never mind.

"I want her to be Pow Pow." Uh, fun fact. In the game Jinx's mini gun is named Pow Pow and her pistol is named Zappy. She also has another weapon named Fishbones that she made to look like a shark. She also talks to her weapons like she does the Milo and Claggor dolls in Arcane. Ekko has a line in game if he is fighting and enemy Jinx "You know I used to have a crush on you. Until you started talking to the guns."

I CANNOT believe that after all my rewatches, I STILL cry ugly tears over the blue flare scene. It's so amazing and the music is so powerful. Awww, my heart.
Thanks again for the video: it's really interesting to listen to your theories and takes. I agree with most of your final thoughts, except when you're talking about Mel 😜
    To the next.

In defense of Jayce and Victor, Heimerdinger didn't seem to explain himself about _why_ he had reservations about their inventions and was generally overly cautious. Like Jayce said - humans don't live for centuries. So, while Heimerdinger is okay to wait decades to see a development bear fruit, humans don't have that luxury. Plus. while you wait for your invention to be perfected, there are people who you could be helping who continue to suffer.

A lot of people love Heimer and are on his side. I disagree. I think what a lot of people don't realize is how flawed he really is. Heimerdinger is loved because he is has come up with many many advancements that have helped the city. The problem is he looks for the perfect solution, but often half measures today are far better than full measures tomorrow. Because of this he lets problem fester and grow rather than putting a band aid on them. He is an idealist not a realist. So while his ways may be safer, they are often worse because they take too long to help. So in many ways being voted off the council is the best thing for both him and the city. For him, he gets slapped in the face by reality. He gets knocked down off of his ivory tower and sees the real world. The city may have had some benefit from his guidance, but it was also very constrained by his very narrow point of view. Without him it will be allowed to grow beyond his narrow views which is more of a pro than a con.

Rio is dying as a result of the particular mutation she has. Her body cant sustain itself. The problem is that Singed is using her mutated body to cultivate and synthesize shimmer. If Rio dies he loses his shimmer source. Thus, "the mutation must survive." Victor on the other hand is dying as a result of the general toxins of the underground and having a body born too weak to tolerate his environment.

    • @Fredwood3000
      @Fredwood3000 3 місяці тому +2

Is it confirmed that Singed needs Rio to synthesize shimmer? Minute spoiler for later, but wouldn't it then be strange to have dedicated shimmer factories down the road?
My take is Singed wanted to save Rio because of her mutation (we don't know the specifics of it yet) and on his Quest to extend Rio's life (or maybe even find a cure) he stumbled upon those purple glowing "mushrooms" and their effects when feeding them to Rio.
So Singed decided to study them further, extracting and enriching their active components, and eventually developed the prototype for shimmer seen in episode 1.

@@Fredwood3000 Nah, shimmer comes pretty much from the void or a creature that somehow links us to it. You can see it in later episodes where there's a huge plant creating shimmer and there is a weird core looking like a purple heart.
What Rio is, is the first creature that Singed got to experiment on that survived the changes induced by the shimmer/void that helps avoiding death on those who are doomed so he keeps him to learn why and how. As far as he has learned, shimmer may be used to heal, hence the Silco eye-product or Jinx healing later on. Also Viktor with his legs healed. However Singed is still learning and has no control over its secondary effects.

There are parallels between the relationship between Vander/Grayson and Silco/Marcus, but the most significant difference is one of power. Vander and Grayson's agreement was one between respected equals. Silco straight up owns Marcus. Marcus is afraid of Silco, and Silco doesn't respect Marcus.
Don't forget the Enemy music video before episode 7!

When Singed says "loneliness is often the byproduct of a gifted mind" it could just be a clever observation but it's kind of a major theme of Arcane. We see multiple times that characters are at their most inventive when they are also at their most isolated. Jace proved HexTech works the same day that he almost threw himself off a building. Powder/Jinx finally has working bombs only after she lost her entire family. And Victor is making Hex Core a thing because he's facing the end of his life without accomplishing anything. (according to his perception at least) It's brilliant writing. I am loving all your pre and post reaction observations Basic!

My podium for individual episodes are episodes 6, 3, and 4. Episode 7 is a very, very, very, very close runner up and then 9. The entire show is so freaking good! I'm not usually one to get obsessed over shows or movies but Arcane is on another level.

Glad you love 'Violyn' as much as we do!
And yes, I think Marcus was trying,. in his way, to be to Silco what Greyson was to Vander. His heart is in the right place, but Greyson and Vander had mutual respect, while SIlco has little beyond concept for Marcus. He's a dirty cop to the crime lord, one who's on the payroll.
Anyway I'm impressed by how percpetive you are - you're an awesome reactor!

Heimerdinger deserves to be kicked out of the council. He's nota safety net,he's a wall. Don't talk about magic, don't work on magic, don't use magic to help others. He never explains himself and when he's confronted, he acts like a brat "I will have it destroyed, one way or another".
He has been in charge the whole time. The Undercity is a big slum ? He was in charge. Vi and Powder's parents were killed ? He was in charge.
He thinks the situation will slowly improve even when everything is going downhill. He has no solution and doesn't want to do anything.
When confronted by Jayce ("what's your plant to fix [the city's problems] ?"), he has nothing to offer other than waiting. He's immobilism personified.
Jayce is in the wrong too but at least he wants to do SOMETHING.
(Viktor's mentor is also the doctor who helped Silco in the first episodes. He's the inventor of shimmer. It's heavily implied Rio is the source of the drug. He was burned in the explosion of episode 3. His name is Singed.)

Ehm, he’s literally articulated several times the grander points of how the Arcane changes people and leads to destruction. We don’t see any exposition to fellow council members or hear recollections of past events but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t done so.
Moreover, he may also know that giving too many details may act as a lure for people. The problem is how power corrupts, yet how many tales (fictional and real) are there of those who hear such warnings and believe they can wield great power responsibly?
And expressly, the reason the council votes him out is because they each have a goal they believe exclusive control of hextech will help them reach. They are not expelling him out of altruism. They are expelling him because of the same selfish gain which he fears will lead to destruction.
He is a Cassandra figure, through and through.

    • @ukaszgrzesik7231

Exactly. Haimerdinger is unfit to be a leader of the council. To govern you need more that cheap platitudes. He bears personal responsibility for the socio-economic situation in the city in a way that any human with limited lifespan would, 200 years at the top while large part of population is third class citizens.
