The Shades, an ancient part of the city whose inhabitants were largely nocturnal and never inquired about one another’s business because curiosity not only killed the cat but threw it in the river with weights tied to its feet.
Beware of two elderly ladies with knitting supplies just walking about...
The Shades - the only place in all of reality where taking a walk there can be considered Suicide.
Fun fact, you can't really drown in the river Ankh, you can only suffocate in it.
@@LordDragox412 very often people simply died from impacting the thick crust on top of it too.
Do you know how they call a horse in the Shades?
Dinner.
"But this didn't feel like magic. It felt a lot older than that. It felt like music".
Pratchett's legacy is immortal
GNU
👍👍👍👍👍👍
@@A._is_for fuckin GNU sir Terry!!
@@Az-od9bq GNU Pterry Pratchett
If this man isn't asked to do music for TES 6 we riot
@Lotad-Is-Hungry for Skyrim and her people! Sovngarde awaits!
This is awesome. I must insist you now so a rendition of "a wizards staff has a knob on the end."
Or the Hedeghog song, or the unnamed song that goes with the Stick and Bucket dance.
I wanna hear him do Sioni Bod Da! ;-P
@Chris Wings It you never stop spotting Sir Terry's genius!
And the Saddest Song in the World for those long, lonely, whiskey-fueled nights!
Not only is he one amazing bard and musician, he has a really great taste for literature as well!
Listening to this felt like going to the Mended Drum and listening to The Band With Rocks In!!! Incredible work, my friend. Truly incredible.
Exactly the kind of commentary I wanted to write, but lacking some translation from French. I was also wandering through the Shadows, and then passing a bridge, watching the tower of the Unseen University. Thank you Algal, you make my day (at least)
Truly truly incredible 🎸🎻
Haven't heard or read the name Ankh-Morpork in quite a while, close to 15 years actually... I can still say this music fits ;-)
Now where can I buy a sentient Pear-tree luggage?
What makes you think you can afford it?
@@OnlyKaerius Right, knew I forgot something...
@@OnlyKaerius He could've been from the Agatean Empire, y'know.
(Also, it's Sapient Pearwood.)
@@OnlyKaeriusProbably easier to make friends with someone who might gift it to you.
Everyone REMEBER a wizards staff has a knob on the end and a hedgehog won't be buggered. Also great interpitaion of anhk morpork music
Because I haven't seen it in my quick scroll of the comments:
GNU Terry Pratchett.
Also: This is gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it!
Thanks to you, Pratchett's second death has been pushed a bit farther away, and how.
Thanks for this great tune.
As a bit of a Discworld noob (I've read about 10 of Terry's books in the last year), this is a lovely tribute to some of my new favorite fiction.
I love how it somehow blends Celtic music with some spaghetti western influences in there.. Proper good stuff this. :)
I am basically obsessed with Terry Pratchett. I am still angry with whatever force of nature deemed right to remove him from the world instead of trimming away someone less awesome, let's say me for example. Thanks for this awesome piece of music that fits so well with his books.
I started Discworld in college, reading book after book on my bus rides to and from school. It took me a couple years intermittently to finish the series, and in the process I switched to audiobooks, thanks to the awesome narrators. And in the end of “The Shepherd’s Crown” it was tangible how his mind was deteriorating… I will always remember how I was sitting in my car, listening to the afterword where he apologized for not being capable of his former greatness because of his mental condition, and how he had to hurry up and finish that book before his time came. And then as the narrator was saying how he passed away and about his legacy, I was just bawling… Rest In Peace, Sir Terry Pratchett.
@netwitch56 no, I was just sad.
I know exactly which force of nature took him away, but I also KNOW THAT HE WAS JUST DOING HIS JOB.
There's still plenty of opportunity for a trimming. Give our regards if you get trimmed first.
Yeah me too. This world needed him
YESSSSSS!! I did not expect this but I am extremely happy to so Discworld being appreciated and complimented by a great artist!
But will it play on a calculation machine with the "ant hill inside" label?!?
Awesome track, great job.
HEX is a lovely being, and very adaptable. No partially eaten apples here.
Thanks for the smile you just put in my face. What an amazing song, so truly fitting for the Discworld novels ❤️
GNU Sir Pterry.
I can hear this playing in the Broken/Mended Drum while the Librarian is gently explaining the difference between monkeys and apes.
Gonna buy this for my DnD game soon. Just love the sound and sound quality to your music, they have such a strong theme.
Thank you. Love the work of Sir Pratchett. My favourite writer. RIP
Algal never does a bad song...
Now naturally my mind is reverse engineering this into a metal cover.
I hope to hear that one day.
First Skyrim, now Discworld? If we go to Pern next, I might be in love. ^_^
It's great to hear your own songs, but don't stop your covers it's also super. Keep continuing what you're doing ❤️❤️❤️
Love from the celtic region of France called '' Bretagne ''
Discworld song! 10/10! Would love one for each major city!
First a cover of one of my favorite Skyrim songs, and now an original piece for one of my favorite book series? This is heavenly! Thank you for your amazing content!
As a big Pratchett fan, I was so surprised when I saw this song on your new album on Spotify.
I did not think about a so joyful music for Ankh Morpork, it sounds too epic, for a city background music in my opinion.
I like it very much.m but I'd said it sound more like a ride on horse of Moist Von Lipwig in Going Postal. 😉
Sounds perfect for a City Watch book ❤
I thought this would be a bardcore cover of a "certain song" with the word "Ankh" in the title. 👀
It's nice to hear your original music!
Thought it was going to be that anthem too...
This is how the city sounds on the nights Vimes knows are gonna be rough!
The Bardcore covers were great, but this right here is what nabbed the subscribe. Phenomenal work! The turtle moves.
"In a second hand set of dimensions, in an Astral Plane never meant to fly..." Solid banana out of ten.
I think everyone would agree when I say Sir Terry would approve!!
This is beautiful! I just needed something like this when I opened UA-cam and there it was right at the top! Thank you
The Algal-rithms abide!
I can almost smell the river.
*gagging and coughing sounds*
This is amazing my man.
Top to bottom.
Composition, playing, production.
Love it
Without using the note number 8 wow !!!
May Alduin be with you
My absolute fav book series 🥺
Llevo escuchando la cancioncita en loop desde ayer sin poder parar ni quitármela de la cabeza, qué me has hecho Algal!
This immediately brought to my mind Sgt colon and corporal nobbs shaking hands with door knobs, Sam vimes smoking his pantweeds slim pannatellas. Good times
I love to hear this before my night shift start.
This one bangs.
GNU PTerry 🖤
Algal. The One who is Many.
And here we are, casually uncovering the deepest and greatest mysteries of the Discworld, by chance... and because the main character had nothing else to do
There you go, another fantasy novel great I discover due to my subscriptions. And just let me say this music is to my ears what 38 year old schnaps was for my palate.
absolutely awesome !!! Cheer from Quebec !
Long live Rincewind and the Colour of Magic!
Awesome!
Brilliant!
New favorite!
Listening now as well as saving this for later, because I know I'm going to get lost in the comment section... So happy to see love for Discworld!

Would love a song for Lancre!
I hope buying this on Amazon actually gave you the money because you are amazing
gnu terry pratchett
Just purchased the album off iTunes, thank you
I had a discworld game for PC ages ago was great!
I think I'll follow His Grace, The Duke of Ankh, Commander Sir Samuel Vimes with this song starting today.
I can now recognise the sound of a Hurdy Gurdy without seeing someone actually playing, thanks to Algal.
nice ^^
