As a high school student who’s teachers don’t let us be on our laptops to even check the time I’d say that watches are most definitely tools
Whose*
Y'all distracted anyway lol
I'll bring my casio calculator watch to that class just to troll...
That's crazy, in America all the kids in class use their phones freely...even recording and cyber bullying teachers
Watches are a very practical tool for me. There are so many situations where I just want to keep track of time and want to avoid the distractions and dont need the heft that normally comes with phones nowadays.
Exactly. They're practical AND fun to wear
Exactly.👍
@@ChronometerCheckAs a sailor a watch is better for checking the time then a phone
They're far politer to check the time on. If you're in class or a meeting, it's far politer to roll over your wrist than "obnoxiously" take out ur phone.
On rugged or busy dial watches nato straps look awesome 🔥🔥
NATO straps look perfecly at home on some watches
It's useful jewelry. Small, but important distinction.
NATO straps also have another key feature: they can be worn comfortably even with VERY long strap lengths due to the way they're folded. This means you can strap one on on top of thick military clothing -- a coat, a flight suit, hell even a spacesuit.
Or a sweater or parka sleeve.
There are many places that you may not be allowed to have a Bluetooth device. Still need a watch. 😉
True!
Main reason I have watches are to check the time.. I be on a a schedule and the seconds actually make a difference
If the seconds actually make a difference then a mechanical watch is not for you
I worked as a transport planner for 7 years.
EU truck drivers have verry strict driving and rest times.
I found it easier to calculate driving programs by using the dial of my watch...rather than excel or doing it with pen and paper...
Didnt like nato straps until I was shooting hoops to pass the time after work before heading home.went up for a strong rebound and my seiko 6309 diver hit the black top hard..A spring bar came loose. Tried a Nato & I got used to it.still prefer metal straps but I switch up between different strap types.
All of my watches have memories attached to them, from the first watch my dad gifted me, my late grandfather's, first watch i bought myself. First ever intro luxury that my uncle gifted for my birthday. And I'm looking to get an snxs to gift myself for my birthday tomorrow! Watch collecting is a journey and a fulfilling one. I usually spend my days off cleaning, maintaining and admiring my watches. Really destresses you out
Well said! Even looking down at the watch is kind of a reminder that my time is valuable
Our watch shares most every event of our lives and which helps explain why they can be a most cherished heirloom. I also have some very nice vintage watches, 1930s through 1960s abandoned at a thrift shop, most likely by a family member and I often think of the original owners and what stories these watches could tell. Confident the former owners would appreciate their watch is still ticking on someone’s wrist.
G-shock 9400 rangeman with nato strap is goated
I kinda agree with the nato straps. I found a strap called the french paratrooper and it seems like a really good concept.
The elastic MN strap.
Less bulky than a NATO strap, very comfortable and available in a gazillion of color combos.
@@e28forever30is it more likely to loose and fall?
@@oshoc01 if it is similar to the paratrooper strap, not really. Could certainly happen, and has happened to me, but it isn’t often. The few times it has happened was when I was putting my arm through tight bag straps quickly, this can be mitigated by wearing the strap a little tighter.
My is on more often than not. Shower keeps it clean. Need the lume. Nice to know I can conk out for a few more hours without turning on all the lights.
A Rolex is not a watch. It’s a fashion accessory.
Dude I love your Seiko you have, I had the green dial one and then I sold it and I deeply regret it.. but now I have the white creek dial which I love
Thanks! Maybe it will find your way back into your collection someday
I was just about to ask what Seiko is that it’s so cool and I bet looked even better in green
my workmates and i went home for lunch one time....girl asks, "hey, do you have a charger? my (apple) watch died...."
i flicked my wrist and "charged" my watch. still a relevant, practical tool.
Did everybody clap?
@@peedrill my comment was actually contributing to the discussion, but you took time out of your day to spread your negativity. keep your chin up; i hope your life gets better.
Can yo make video on how to polish your watches crystals
Yes!
I have a black NATO strap on my Kamasu red dial and it looks the tits.
The first opinion is not always true for example while diving you can’t carry your phone but you can carry a dive watch
A lot of profession would still need you to have watches. Since most of the time you cant really pull out your phone because its either not allowed or you physically cant since the area that you are working in are either very dirty, radioactive, chemical waste, or has magnets that will affect your phone. As a chef we actually have watches or wall clocks bcus good luck putting your phone on your pocket that would get destroyed in just a month.
$10 000 and up watches are just jewelry. They are not ‘field’, or ‘tool’, or ‘ utility’ watches. Just the bling and status signals.
nah i really like my watches, and i need a timer when im working out so not really useless, a lot practical
Nato straps definitely dress down most watches, but I think sometimes it can be an improvement. I just got the Timex Expedition Chronograph in black, and the factory strap was this big, thick rubber thing that I just hated. I think it looks much better on an all black Nato. On the flip side though, dressing down a watch isn't necessarily a bad thing. I have a vintage Seiko 5 that is chrome with a black face on a silver/chrome bracelet. It looks great, but if I'm in shorts and a t-shirt, I feel like it's a little... too much. I tried to put that black nato on the Seiko before the Timex arrived, but the gap between the pins and the main body of the watch was too tight. It felt like the pins were going to pop out from the tension. I'll have to find a different black strap for it. Maybe a subtle leather one or something
I wear all my watches on natos, always.
how does it feel to live my dream with that hamilton intramatic? lol keep up with the good work
I am thinking of buying a cheapest Seiko is this a good choice
@@user-jn2xn5fd9qI'd say try before and check how it is on your wrist. Nothing wrong with it being cheap or not, as long as you like!
This weekend I went to the beach with my seiko SKX on a nato strap and it sucks once it's wet... rubber straps are better. But I still like the nato strap looks anyway, I'll keep then around. But I'll not take then to the beach anymore LOL.
Yeah, rubber or metal are ideal for water. As long as it's a high quality rubber, and not that cheap silicon that makes you sweat
An SKX looks killer on a Nato strap, had mine on an army green nato.
I love my casio duro, I use it everyday with different nato straps to switch up the look and style. And the bezel function allows me to set "alarms" without bothering any of my classmates, and during testing I cannot have my phone, so a watch is a must to keep track of time as well.
Great video!
Thank you!
Hot take but the nylon strap on that Patek genuinely make it look stunning. It’s already a beautiful watch so I feel like it could work with any type of strap, but the nylon strap on high end watches just does something unique and gives a different aesthetic to the watch. Not sure how to explain it but it’s really beautiful
Watches are a must if you work in secret squirrel places (SCIFs and such).
Also, that Patek chrono with a nato strap one of the sweetest watches ive ever seen!
Ive asked in interviews for engineering positions if ill be able to wear a watch and turned some down based on the answer, its a tool I use all day and I consider it essential
What was the reason some of them said no?
@@TheBotleyBoyEducated guess, but maybe it has to do with safety protocol and not having extra garments/accessories hanging off your body where they can get caught on things? I've definitely gotten the pushers on my chronograph stuck on stuff when gardening and working outside.
I think mechanical watches are obsolete. Just like how there isn't a modern military still using bolt action rifles. There are better options.
There are more affordable, well built and more accurate watches using quartz..
And I write this as a hypocrite.. I just bought a Seiko King Samurai and I love it..
what reference is the Seiko?
Yep, use my watches beyond the jewelry accessory, I actually need a ready, convenient method to tell time.
I dont think calling them jewelry as an insult tbh. I think its a compliment even.
I just put a NATO strap on my watch. I love it and it feels way more secure than the QR straps.
Hey what Seiko model is this? I really like this
Rolex now a days is literally jewellery imo
A lot of "in house" movements are just rotors with the name of the brand, like Invicta.
Hello! Can I ask what is the model number for the Seiko watch at 0:15? Thank you!
Alpinist European Edition SPB197J1
I don't like having my phone in my pocket while I work (it's distracting, digs into me when I bend down and too likely to get damaged or lost) I charge by the hour so wearing a watch helps me keep track of time.
It's just funny that wristwatches took the place of pocket watches because people found it inconvenient to pull out a pocketwatch, but we went full circle and went back to "pocketwatches" by going with smartphones.
I have so many luxury and automatic watches, most of them dont even tell the right time 😂 i love the mechanical aspects of it as im an engineer but dont always have the time or willpower in the moring to set them
Lol, I know how you feel. Sometimes a grab and go quartz watch is more convenient
I think watches have a use as a tool and I wear a watch everyday, to the point I feel weird when I don't. The thing is, I wear a Casio watch which cost maybe 30 to 40 dollars. If all you care about is function, that's all you need. I also have a nicer watch that I wear on special occasions. It's also fairly cheap because I am currently a student but I would definitely like to buy some high quality watches when I have a job. My point is that foe functional purposes, a cheap Casio will do you fine, anything else is just jewelry, and that's not a bad thing. Even though I wouldn't want to wear my Casio with a suit, I could buy a cheap dress watch that would go with a suit for under 100 dollars. I want to buy nice watches not because I need to or I have a lot of practical uses but because I admire them, not as functional pieces but as beautiful things both in style and precision
Natos are also good for a nice cheap infield watch I use for blue-collar work
What if buckle spring bar fails?
I still love NATO straps 💥
There are leather Nato straps too so you might get a nice look with those too
I wear watches because of them looks but also to check the time in school because we got a No-phone within school walls policy
Model of that grey seiko?
Having a watch keeps your phone safe. The more you pull it out of your pocket, the more chances you have to accidentally drop it. Plus its just plain rude to check the time on your phone while out with people.
For i still like the traditional watch. Its not about accuracy its about for aesthetics
Just started getting into NATO straps. Practicality and comfort is now above all 😅
I prefer the French parachute strap over nato straps it’s much more confortable and practical.
I think it's fair to say mechanical watches are obsolete. There's no "legitimate" reason to get one over a quartz movement. They are cool for sure, I own several, but when a watch can last 10 years on a battery vs a few days on spring power, it's really just a novelty at this point.
To those who says watches are obsolete,
I will buy whatever the F I want!
Watches as tools are obselete? I think that is the case nowadays. They tell the time and that's fundamental. As a tool for say timing events like athletics or motor racing it's pretty much obsolete. I buy watches for the looks and the complexity of the operation of the movement, mechanical or quartz. As a tool your better off with a garmin type watch.
I agree that nato straps suck (by the looks). Yet, I bought 3 because they are easy to change and to have peace of mind while swimming 😂
I love my g shock wear it everywhere is like a part of me
I really love how nato bands look
WATCHES ARE OBSOLETE?!?!?! OK. WOW. I literally just got back from the café. I rode there on my bike. I sat there and enjoyed my breakfast. I did not take my phone with me because what sort of troglodytic ungulate needs to use their phone at 0630?! I had my very simple AirKing with me so.......ya know......I COULD KNOW WHAT TIME IT WAS!!!!! Sorry. I leave the house without a phone 50% of the time. I leave the house without my watch & knife 0% of the time. This...... I can't. That's an insane thing to even say. OBSOLETE?!?! Great channel Handsome! Keep it up. This got my blood boiling. I'm grumbling like my Abuelo talking about everything going to $+1t.
My watch is from 1967 and still runing below 10sec/day.
A smartphone is dead after 7years
7 years? That is very generous, but your example sucks. If you compared it to the Apple Watch it would be a lot better. Also most phone batteries will die and need to be replaced much sooner than 7 years, unless you enjoy charging your phone all the time
High-quality nato straps are better than metal bracelets. You can't change my mind 🤷♂️
A watch is literally strapped to your body. If your phone is not in reach your watch definitely is unless you aren’t wearing it. Also you don’t have to charge a watch daily/ phones die after hours watches die after years
Practically every In-house movement is better than an off the shelf
Practical jewelry it dosent have to be exclusively timepiece or jewelry
100% right
I can’t dive with my phone, so no, tool watches aren’t obsolete
I really want to get a rainbow dial and NATO for my mq-38 for the memes
I feel naked without my watch
That patek with nato is a blasphemy
I rather don’t have any scratches memory 😂
Rubber bands belong to g shock
Ever tried to surreptitiously check the time on your phone 🤳🏾 it's so obvious
Facts
NATO straps do suck lol
Nato straps suuuuuuck
That's your opinion, I love the rugged nature of the NATO strap, it's a practical strap for any shenanigans that require some hard times, which is why the main watch head won't fall completely.
💕Nato💥 straps 💕 always 🙈
Here's a very unpopular opinion.
The best tool watch for the average person is a smart watch, in terms of practicality they have more use than a traditional watch. It's kinda ironic that watch enthusiasts don't like them tho it is understandable why since it's more of a phone on your wrist than a "watch".
oh like i love myself when I scratch my stuff. The all scratches on my car bring me happiness.
Yeah I hate nato watches
Nah I love nato straps
First?
Looks like it :)
Yup NATO strap is ass
A watch is jewelry. Can we stop with the crap😂😂😂
I use it as a tool literally everyday. I use a phone to much as it is for work.
