I think Golden Retriever could work if instead it said "Discover a golden copy of a card in your deck" Alternatively, it could be from your opponent's deck or maybe a combination of cards from both decks.
I think Water Nova (3:43) could be balanced if you give it that "spelldamage counts twice" effect. So you can deal 2 damage to all enemies in a specific situation cause you still need the totem.
Rush. During your opponent's turn, this card is a random mage secret. That effect means it'll be a minion again on your turn without having to specify it. Clean and simple.
Get Ragt! is definitely a nightmare for balancing without creating an RNG-heavy tool for burn mage. If the trigger was something like "If your opponent has at least 3 minions, deal 8 damage to a random enemy," it would mitigate the chance of it going face and keep it as a board control tool first and foremost, while also having that Ragnaros flavor.
Roca the wall would make fatigue warrior great again! For that end you could even remove the "draw a card" and just make the spell cost zero and not instacast. This way it's much slower but stronger for specifically that archetype.
Malygos+Water Nova: 9 Mana deal 5 damage to the entire enemy board and put a 4/12 into play. Seems like that would be really good in a burn oriented Shaman deck, though maybe it is missing some of the support around it. Such a deck would almost certainly also be running Thalnos for draw+spelldamage and you can roll totems, which should be enough to make it a good tool against aggro/midrange decks, and against control decks you should have a good MU already if there is some kind of OTK you can setup with Malygos (yes using Malygos for the clear combo would then take that away, but it gives Malygos flexibility), but with ancestors call gone and emperor also not in standard I am not sure how you would go about trying to OTK with Shaman currently. As I said: Seems like it is missing some support cards, but seems really fun
Tim_Logik It reminds me of Black avatar from Yu-Gi-Oh with same gimmick and guess what, it sees zero play because it gets blown up before you even get to the battle phase
You mean "The Wicked Avatar" ? Well yes the card saw no play, but that was because OCG versions of god cards, wicked cards blah blah sucked shit. It was also bad because it can only really be done with well, tributing 3 monsters, and if you run a deck that spam monsters? You might as well do with some cards that had much better resistence to effects/damage. That said, the wicked avatar was a hilarious card that says this cards atk is equal to the highest atk on the field plus 100. So it was pretty much just about the best beatstick you ever would get. That said, Kaijus, emperors, blah blah. (Or go one step lower you have BLS Envoy of beginning(Which can either just banish a card, or if it kills a monster it can atk again. It also has 3k atk), which is like, having one dark type and one light type die in the game and you can summon him for ABSOLUTE FREE(Well you would need to banish those two monsters but like, special summon...) and he sees ZERO PLAY nowdays.) Wickeds, gods, whatevers, these cards don't see play simply because there are way more powerful choices. PS: The other two wicked cards, one was a Wicked Dreadroot a 4k/4k beatstick that would have all other monsters on the field halving their stats, yes, yours as well, it sucked. The other one Wicked Eraser is basically when it gets blown up either by your opponent or whatsoever, you can blow up everything on your opponents board. But like, Wicked eraser is like so much harder to do than just bringing out a Mirror Force Dragon, and guess what, Mirror Force dragon still, doesn't see play, even though its effect is like better, and you only needed to just pop a Fang of Critas on Mirrorforce, instead of tributing 3 monsters which is kind of a pain in the ass. None of those saw really much play, well, Mirror force sees play ofc, but not the dragon. It just turned out that card advantage is really important. Oh and yeah cards that doesn't have resistance or can't stop effects will sucks in YuGiOh. Wicked Avatar has like slight resistance as to your opponent can't activate trap cards for two turns. The worst part of it? You bring out Wicked Avatar be like YES Your opponent casually brings out No101 silent honor ark and equips your lovely card as its xyz material. Or bounce it back into the deck, making your work kind of just wasted with a simple Castel. Either way, it sucks for a reason, and the reason is there are better cards.
queen of pain with a different name etc could be an awesome theme wise card for a monk hero in theory as monks or atleast tank monks in wow have the ability to stagger damage which this represents realy well in my opinion
make it so the illusionist transforms back after the secret is triggered. This A: Keeps the Illusionist as a threat, through giving it an attack and the chance to get in multiple secrets and B: Gives the opponent the opportunity to deal with the threat on their turn.
a better way to make water nova would be a 2 mana spell that deals 3 damage to a minion and 0 damage to adjacent minions. Without spell damage, it's darkbomb, with spell damage, it can kill that 3 mana 3/3 that gets 1/1 when you attacks and can kill a 2/1 that's nearby
Orzam Stormbinder is a really good idea if the future of heartstone reaches a stage where you battle to keep your mana intact and disrupt the opponents mana pool
It's definitely lore friendly since there are things like manaburn in Warcraft. I wonder why opponent mana disruption is not a mechanic in game already, I guess there are the cards that increase mana costs for the opponent. Destroying a mana crystal or overloading a mana or two could be meta defining, not game breaking, if implemented properly.
I'd actually love to run greater polymorph in elemental control mage. counters paladins and quest warrior, and is generally good against any control deck
8:48 I would say change the Battlecry to "Draw 2 Overload cards from your deck" and change the Ability to "Passive: Whenever you Overload, your enemy overloads for 1 Mana" this way the card getting is way less broken and the Passive is not OP anymore, pretty balanced imo
You could double spell damage affects for water nova, so if you had say a twilight zealot and spell damage totem it would deal 4 to all and if you have the legendary from boomsday project it’s deal 8 to all. Still not really good or maybe even good at all but I feel it’s a good way to buff it if blizzard wants it or something like it in the game.
They need to make Mass Polymorph: 6-8 mana mage spell, Turn all opponent's minions into 1/1 sheep tokens. That'd show those damn Hadronox Druids and Cube Locks. While still being bad against aggro, like token druid, paladin, and bloodlust shaman.
I would change the Illusionist in one way (other that the change Trump mentioned that meant it would be able to attack on your turn). I would add "after the Secret is triggered, Silence this minion" which means you're paying 4 mana for a 4/3 which will turn into a random Secret every turn until the opponent triggers it, at which point it becomes a normal 4/3 (which the opponent CAN kill during the same turn)
One thing with madam black... If you are playing 'control rogue' you are likely to run into an issue of fatigue or burning cards with the combo. Yah the draw power is insane but it severely limits your plays. I'd actually lower the design score because of how extreme it will be, a bit like that mage weapon, Aluneth.
I'd love to see that as a deathrattle instead of a battlecry, and bump the cost up to 5 or 6. Without a silence or secret removal, it would be an infinite alternating stream of decent minions and random secrets. Almost like a Mage Sherazin.
Zack Bogucki yeah that's close to what I first thought but I realized that use (5/6 mana) and get 3 mana for free everytime it dies (and that's super op because mage has really good secrets)
Yeah it would definitely be a ton of value for one card, even though the secrets being picked randomly would make them worth a bit less than their full mana cost. Your battlecry suggestion seems much more reasonable, even if it's less flashy! Reminds me of that old 4/2 Shaman weapon that summoned a 4/2 elemental when it broke.
Water Nova (0 mana shaman spell that deals 0 to all enemy minions) seems potentially powerful if you can find playable spell damage minions for your deck, rather than JUST relying on a totem roll. If you can make a deck with Malygos in Shaman, you have a 0 mana flamestrike +1. Looks like a card that would either see no play, or help make a new archetype viable. For Orzam Stormbinder, I wonder if the "overload your opponent too" mechanic could be useable as a single time effect on another card (like a spell effect, battlecry, or secret). Think of it as being similar to Loatheb or Saboteur, but with a more significant effect as it doesn't just affect a single option, but multiple ones. Theoretically, one could do some massive combo to keep casting it multiple times (a definite concern), but it would be very difficult and require juggling bounce and copy cards while overloading yourself. Maybe keep the card legendary to make it harder to pull off. If it's a battlecry and says "both heros suffer this card's overload," it wouldn't do anything with shudderwock, which lacks an overload. Greater polymorph also semi-counters odd/even decks as they lose the boosted hero power they bought by severely limiting their deck building options. Probably still not worth the cost. Some other decks suffer minor disruptions when their vanilla hero power is lost. Rogues have often included weapon-synergy cards in decks with few weapon cards, relying on their hero power. Using this card in these situations probably wouldn't justify the 6 mana cost like it would against death knights, but it might mean that the card isn't completely dead against these decks. I wonder if it would be interesting to have hero cards that weren't legendaries, allowing you to have two copies of one (likely with battlecry effects). How about a "bodyguard hero" who has limited max health (anywhere from 5-15) and a different hero power, but with a deathrattle that return you to your previous hero, like a multi-stage boss. You essentially you're sending out a mini-boss. Are there any "neutral" heroes? That could also be an odd idea.
You know, Trump, it's hard to take these seriously, as most of your ratings are either: "I don't think this is OK, 1 star" OR "Seems cool, 5 stars" There's a range of how unbalanced or weak something is/isn't, and how interesting a design is/isn't. One's usually supposed to use all the range of stars one has decided to rate the cards in, yo.
Kyle Witcosky For once, yeah. He still says merits and demerits to quite a couple cards and follows to disregard the side he does not favor and goes "1/5 star(s)" though.
Jay Well I think trump forgot that spell damage shaman used to be a powerful thing. That water nova could work in even shaman.. put a few spell damages in case
I like Water Nova quite a bit, it can be used with some early spell power or saved up for a big Maligos turn. Plus, Shatter exists, and is a terrible card, so the fact that it is just a combo piece isn't terrible at all.
Can someone please define trump's definition of the design category? 'Cause honestly the idea of those lower rated cards was awesome (eg. Golden Retriever)
He was pretty clear about why he didn't like the design of Golden Retriever. Golden cards are intended to be purely optional cosmetics. Golden Retriever would practically force you to craft certain key cards as golden to use it properly, which is horrible news for anyone who doesn't want to spend too much money on the game. It also means you can only use those specific golden cards for best results, so you'd have to refrain from using the cool golden epic you just unpacked into your deck if it's not something you want to fetch with Golden Retriever. It completely misses the point of golden cards in a way that transforms them from a harmless cosmetic to a dust sink that hurts the game experience as a whole. It should've gotten 0 stars for design.
You just pointed out the obvious. I just wanna know the criteria of the category design. Because I thought it would just rate based on creativity or good idea for a mechanic and not on how positive/negative the card is for the meta or a player
The idea of those cards were cute, but Trump is rating the cards based on how well they would fit the game and how fun it would be to play them, and there's nothing fun about a card that rewards richer players by design.
I think The Illusionist can work IF you already have secrets on the board. And hey you might get lucky a double secret might be just what you need for win condition.
How is Greater Poly not just as disruptive and broken as Stormbinder? If you added a hero card to your deck, you probably built it and play it with that card in mind. Same can be said of the class hero powers. Easiest example I can think of is any kind of control Hunter or Warrior gets absolutely annihilated by being turned into a sheep. No more 2 damage if you want to kill them quicker. No more building beast to outvalue. Warrior loses all of their armor gain or swatting of insects. Even worse, there is no real counter to being sheeped other than playing your hero card or Sulfuras after they sheep, which never happens. I don't really like disruptive battlecry/spell cards in Hearthstone, specifically because you can't feasibly counter them, other than not playing the deck type the hate card was meant for. They are ultimately very tricky to balance and you have to do so in a tasteful and clever way. Loatheb and Dirty Rat are good examples to look to for disruptive cards. Simple, not permanent, can fail, good bodes. Skulking Geist and Eater of Secrets are not a great ones to look to. Too permanent, no counterplay, low failure rate, worthless to run without teching in mind. Just my 2 cents.
In my opinion, water nova, would be super over powered, its a great cycle card with auctioneer, and great turn 9 clear with maly, but any spell power built into the deck adding a 0 mana aoe would be really strong
Would Greater Polymorph make the enemy hero count as a Mage, and thus affect their discover pool and various "non-rogue cards" & "cards from another class" effects?
Oh man did people not understand the point of the hero card battlecries. They're supposed to make up for the fact that you aren't doing anything on that turn, so you don't get completely run over tempo-wise. Drawing cards does not fix that tempo problem! They're also not supposed to be stronger than the entire effect of a normal card with that cost... I like that warrior legendary as a deathrattle for the n'zoth synergy. It also adds some small potential for counterplay, people can try burning off your armour before killing it.
Greater polymorph is turnimg your opponents heropower into paladins, in some cases, its good for them Edit: sheep are also beast so it could be good with hunter
Greater polymorph would make your hero susceptible to a poison attack... Poison weapon or any poison minions would one hit you since you become a minion instead of a hero card
So about Roca the wall I do think I should stay as death rattle because well it could go two ways you can get more armor the longer it is alive on the other hand you could take a lot of damage and by the time it dies you could have little to no armor but as i said it can go both ways
Why not just give The Illusionist Charge? That would make it less wordy for the "be able to attack on your turn" and better (since it's 4 to face when it's played as well)
water nova: remember arcane blast? Could be a route I feel your design rating is excessively affected by your balance consideration. It almost makes having two separate ratings moot.
I would be fine with getting water nova with hagatha because most of the times I have way too many cards in the hand to play shudderwock and I would love to get 0 mana spells at that point.
Trump, do you yourself go to the weekly card design contest on the subreddit and cast your votes? I find it peculiar that you give the contest winners such low ratings (from repeated winners, too), and sometimes the post on the contest itself might have some extra info or buffs/nerfs that might affect the card’s design or balance (case in point: the original post with the Camera Bot, pardon the spelling, had The Tape’s Cost reduced to (4)).
Plot Twist: The wrong Hemet was intentional to generate more comments about said wrong Hemet.
Knowing Jens, probably.

If the Doctor Boom Hero doesn’t cost 7, I’m suing Blizzard
Dr. Boom MAD Scientist will cost 11 mana just to piss you off.
It does cost 7, people confirmed it by zooming in enough.

Golden Retriever should be epic and a have:
Battlecry: Discover a golden copy of a card from your deck.
Get Ragt gets 6 stars for design just for the amazing wordplay
Golden retriever should be changed to: BATTLECRY: draw a card. Turn it into a golden card.

As I said: Seems like it is missing some support cards, but seems really fun
Faceless reaper is not like Trogg Gloomeater. If a 3/4 attacks the Faceless reaper it becomes a 3/6 and both minions survive.
He was saying that to highlight that it is worse than trogg gloomeater, which is not played therefore its really weak.
Tim_Logik It reminds me of Black avatar from Yu-Gi-Oh with same gimmick and guess what, it sees zero play because it gets blown up before you even get to the battle phase

Can someone please define trump's definition of the design category? 'Cause honestly the idea of those lower rated cards was awesome (eg. Golden Retriever)
that shit would be broken. just put 1 golden card in your deck and its a automatic draw it. not fair
A well designed card is one that blizzard could/should add to the game.
"appropriate, hilarious, fits right into the hearthstone!"
xD i just can't right now :P :P
I think The Illusionist can work IF you already have secrets on the board. And hey you might get lucky a double secret might be just what you need for win condition.
The "Water Nova" would have been great as a card to add with the 4 mana 5/7 spell damage dragon
"Suprise, insect" 😂😂😂. Funniesr shit ever
Greater polymorph should also transform the board into 1,1, sheep. Then it might get a chance to be played without being too slow.
2:25 now they added this card... well they changed to name of a current card to this... rip mistress
Queen of Pain with the treachery would be neat.
In my opinion, water nova, would be super over powered, its a great cycle card with auctioneer, and great turn 9 clear with maly, but any spell power built into the deck adding a 0 mana aoe would be really strong
super interesting video and nice editing
The Illusionist.
Charge. Battlecry: Lose Charge
Would Greater Polymorph make the enemy hero count as a Mage, and thus affect their discover pool and various "non-rogue cards" & "cards from another class" effects?
Usarnavon You can only discover 1/1 sheep, definitely
OMG I got a golden Shudderwock from a pack a month ago so, 'Draw a certain Shudderwock', is so true xD
#BringBackDarkestDungeon
I second that. Especially now that the new dlc and patch arrived and shaken up the stun meta.
mr potatoe yesssssssssssssssss
The colour of value!
Amaz is playing it currently. It's on his channel.
What sucks about the 0 mana deal 0 damage is there is no way to stick that concept in to odd shaman (so you can get the spell power consistently)
Just give the illusionist charge and battlecry can’t attack this turn.
For the illusionist it should say: whenever the secret is revealed turn back to the illusionist.
It also adds some small potential for counterplay, people can try burning off your armour before killing it.
why not change 'get ragt' to '3 mana: when your opponent plays 3 cards in one turn, deal 8 damage to a random enemy'
Golden Retriever: Discover a copy of a random card in your deck to your hand. It is golden.
First card is obviously able to attack after it transforms into its minion form.
Really liked Ozram Stormbringer. I want disruptive cards
Water nova combos well with the 1 spell damage totem
Greater polymorph is turnimg your opponents heropower into paladins, in some cases, its good for them
Edit: sheep are also beast so it could be good with hunter
golden retriever with kingsbane would be straight up broken
Greater polymorph would make your hero susceptible to a poison attack... Poison weapon or any poison minions would one hit you since you become a minion instead of a hero card
A hero can be a minion TYPE (like demon) but it can't be an actual minion.
Greater polymorph should also make them have 1 health and a 1 attack weapon. Like Jeraxxus.
One thing about greater polymorph. " they aren't ENTIRELY reliant on their hero card to win the game." Do you even play the same game I do?
But 6:16 is a combo not a battle cry which should be considered in the cost
I would kinda like to see a card like Madam Black just because it would help buff Tess Greymane
So about Roca the wall I do think I should stay as death rattle because well it could go two ways you can get more armor the longer it is alive on the other hand you could take a lot of damage and by the time it dies you could have little to no armor but as i said it can go both ways
Given Spirit Claws, wouldn't it be interesting to use Water Nova and support Spell Damage shaman?
Why not just give The Illusionist Charge? That would make it less wordy for the "be able to attack on your turn" and better (since it's 4 to face when it's played as well)
Your hero power becomes bag = your hero power becomes the Paladins
UA-cam just gave me the 0.03% treatment D: No Thumbnail 5 me D:
Saw you showing renounce
greater polymorph should be an effect on a nuetral minion like most tech cards. gluttonous ooze skulking geist exc...
The polymorph hero card also hits Baku.
Maybe The Illusionist should be a 3/3 with charge.
water nova:
remember arcane blast? Could be a route
I feel your design rating is excessively affected by your balance consideration. It almost makes having two separate ratings moot.
Lol for nervous sapling, if you have no deck and run auctioneer, you can get infinite jade idols
I will definitely craft Madam Black!
Prepare for the reupload!
Wrong Hemet at 10:06
2:50 how about "win the game if donate more, than your opponent" card?
I would be fine with getting water nova with hagatha because most of the times I have way too many cards in the hand to play shudderwock and I would love to get 0 mana spells at that point.
Give water nova 2x spell damage. So if a minnion have +1 spell damage. Water nova gets 2 damage.
Thank you, Trump! Very cool!
Golden Retriever ... I have a golden frost lich, that would be useful
If water nova delt damage to the enemy hero, you could otk
