I should have added that I love watching your vids on Amazon restoration.
Thanks Gary glad your enjoying the videos 👍
After an afternoon spent on my 130 Amazon,it's good to see someone else working on theirs!
Thanks David I am really enjoying working on this for sure. How’s your project going?
@@SimpsonsClassics
Slow but sure waiting for wheels to come back from sprayer.Had them banded by a company in Essex.
Need to get the wheels on to move the car ready for the engine and box to go in.
Just finished replacing all the rubber mouldings on the doors/windows (all from Brookhouse),and doors will go on soon.
Any progress is a good day, nomatter how little it all goes towards the finished item.
Love seeing another Amazon saved! Smashing work!
Thanks Peter I hope you enjoy this series 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics thank you, I need the inspiration.
Really nice to see how you tackle restoring this Volvo
Thanks this one is all new to me so jusy working my way round it.
Really enjoyed this episode mate, great to see you crack on you make it look and sound easy!
Thanks buddy appreciate that. Just trying to work out what’s what then will get some real progress with getting some new panels in.
You are doing it spot on... Well done... Thinking about it first... Fantastic... I'm with you all the way... 👍👍
Thanks Denis this is all new to me so don’t want to mad cutting it up. Think I have my head round it now so more content coming soon 👍
Following this one for sure. I have a '67 myself. I have found that covering up the window glass when welding and grinding is a good idea.
Thanks for that, I hope you enjoy the content this one is all new to me. I normally remove the glass but with the front screen it’s being replaced due to damage so not to worries about it.
I greatly admire your metal working skills - I have never welded and find the idea of it daunting lol. Fine with electrics and paint but not metalwork! You have done an amazing job so far! Doesn’t matter if it’s not all Volvo content! All old/older cars are brilliant! Great video fella
Cheers thanks Rich! Glad you're enjoying the content hopefully more coming on this one very soon.
That's a scary amount of rust to start with, but great that the repair panels will deal with most of it. The rubber floor mat is well worth keeping. An example of Swedish practicality. It's a shame that someone has cut the dash to fit a modern stereo. One of mine just has the original blanking plate fitted. It's easy to hide a modern bluetooth set up under the dash. Very keen to see how you get on with the first set of repairs.
I think she really isnt bad for a 1964 car, far better than most classic mini we do on this channel, Yes I do plan to keep the mats for sure. The dash hasn't been cut this is where the blanking plate was looks to have been fitted from new, the speaker looks factory also,. Stay tuned for more on this car cant wait to get the front end done.
It’s great seeing you working your way around this Amazon. Like the way you describe everything and very interesting to see how the repairs are done. Love the Amazon’s and good to see this one being sorted
Thanks it’s a slow start but will get my head round it and get some panels welded in there soon enough. Cheers for watching 👍
It's always interesting to pick a new restoration project apart, a bit like archeology because you're looking trying to figure out what went on in the past to the car as in " how come that rotted out but that obvious bit didn't?". A reason I'm a lover of cars is even at my age, 53, there's always something new to learn.
It’s definitely exciting for sure. Just trying to find my feet with those project it’s all new to me. But will be welding very soon I am sure. It’s rotted in very odd places this car the drivers side is much better at the top of the scuttle.
@@SimpsonsClassics I always found the near side rots worse than the far side and I always put that down to the kerbside having more water and mud that traps the water to the car, well that's my theory anyway 🤷🏼♂️
@@graemew7001 that’s always what I have found to. Apparent from the mini Mayfair that seems to the opposite way round aha
Hi again… Suggestion/advice: Don’t cut the “lighter” panel. That’s the one you should use as it is exactly like the one that the Volvo put on the Amazon at the factory. The “heavier” pice you talk about is an aftermarket patch panel that was made when the car was used as a daily driver and needed a quick rust repair.
Start with welding the the first “original” panel while keeping the rusty pice front piece as a reference. The aftermarket piece is a patch panel and should be buttwelded to the innerwing to simulate a complete panel. You have to cut the rear end of the patchpanel to simulate the original look. If you could look up an exploded view of the front end of the Amazon you will see what I am talking about. God luck !
Hey thank you for those tips. I have since been doing more research and yes this is the way I want to go I think if I have understood you correctly. Stay tuned for future videos looking forward to getting some new panels in this car now. 👍
Fabulous mate. The potential in this car is so evident to see. Great work Marc.
Thanks Darren I am so enjoying working on this one 👍
Great choice of panels. To assist anyone who needs these, the Volvo part numbers are 653418 and 653419 for the cowl panels and 615006, 615007 for the inner wings. We commissioned new tooling for the cowls way back in 1995. Good luck with the rebuild!--
Hey that’s a great reference thank you very much for commenting. 👍
well done in finding from good steel, I didnt think there was any, love the vids
Aha this car looks far worse than it is. Cheers for watching buddy 👍
Good start ,always good when the rust is cut out and then seeing where the new repair panel goes
Thanks buddy it’s nice to be working on it for sure once I have my head round it the front end me will come together nicely for sure
I'm amazed you can buy panels for this! I have to make everything for my 2003 LDV van.
Yes its definatly helpful, the price of some of them would mean I will have to make and save a few.
Hi mate, new subscriber here for the Volvo Amazon, can’t wait for some new videos- I have recently purchased a 1966 Amazon estate 1 owner and am
Learning as I go too! So your videos are super helpful explaining bits and bobs as you go!
Keep up the good work mate!
Hey thanks for subscribing I hope you enjoy the content we have plenty of amazon stuff coming soon I want this one all painted up and back on the road so I can engine it. Love the sound of your car also. Happy new year 👍
Great video, really interesting to hear the thought processes behind your choices. That's a scary amount of rust to a novice like me though; you're a brave man! Thanks for making these videos, it's very much appreciated 👍
Cheers David glad you enjoyed it. This is hopefully the worse part of this car. Next episode should show a big jump forward. Thanks for watching 👍
looking really nice, like that car a lot. Glad you can get the panels for it, i thought you would struggle!
Cheers buddy some parts aren’t available but most bits are they are just very expensive. Looking forward to doing some bits of fab work on the cars as it moves forward. Well attempting some fab work 😂
Just saying, you were lucky with the floor. Also I'm not here just for the minis. I'll watch whatever you're showing. 😀😀
Yes definitely lucky with the floor. Appreciate that buddy glad you enjoy all the content.
Big difference in weight between mini panels and Volvo 😂😂😂😂 I remember years ago when I had an 850 estate walking up the bonnet and standing on the roof didn’t even flex
Yes definitely massive difference you can tell the difference on the minis throughout the years. Thanks for watching 👍
Hi, re the piece of the new panel you intend to cut off. Can I ask why it was supplied with the panel?
Perhaps it usually goes in the car. Can I suggest another inspection of the RHS panel. It may be symmetrical and provide more clues how the LHS is to be assembled. Sorry if I'm talking rubbish to a skilled panel restorer.
No your not taking rubbish I am learning with this one. The cowl panel has extra metal on the top as it’s designed to be a multi purpose panel. But I need the front upper part also so going to use the lower cowl but then then to aid me lining the outer wing up I will use the whole of the big panel. This seems to be what people do after doing some research. Cheers for watching stay tuned for more 👍
another great video Marc . well done for taking your time with this all new to you I did my first big cut yesterday to the mini and nearly crapped myself keep up the good work mate 💪👍👏👏👏
Thanks John I just didn’t want to go mad cutting them lot up also there is a lot to damage around it. Hopefully now I understand the panels more i can push forward and make some big progress on this, once you start cutting a mini you never stop aha 🤣
@@SimpsonsClassics won't be a bother on you mate I've seen you tackle worse
@@johndaly2180 thanks for having her faith in me aha it’s just another car I guess so get cutting and welding
Hi, thanks for the message I plan to keep this car as original as possible so a conversion like that isn't something I am looking into doing. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video.
Settled down with a cuppa here we go.
Argh sounds good enjoy 👍😉
I am original owner of 1964 122S wagon (one of first imported to US). In great shape (body restored ). Only concern are brakes. Pads replaced, but very slow to brake--and if you chomp down on brakes the wheels lock up. I put in a booster about 10 years ago, but this did not help. What would you suggest to improve braking?
Hey sounds like a great car you have. I am pretty new to amazon ownership so unsure what to suggest maybe check the Volvo owners club for more information..
👍👍👍
Great work what do the panels cost, just retail please?
Thanks Darren these bits ordered cost me £148 delivered.
@@SimpsonsClassics Appreciate you letting me know Mark, look forward to the next instalment!
@@darrenhughes691 no worries buddy 👍
Nice. i am looking forward
