Assuming the matroarchy in barbie was an analogy for the patriarchy, the ending in barbie is rather depressing, basocally saying ”Nope, we can’t change”.

It is not depressing. It is realistic. Remember when the Barbie President said we can start by having just a few male judges on the court (like how women have historically been sparsely represented in the judiciary system) and the voice over said and maybe someday the gender balance in Barbieland's judiciary system will reflect that of the real world. As a guy, the moment made me think of how long women had to fight to get the rights they have now.

@@backto-il9ne One does not exclude the other :p The real world is very much depressing, especially when it comes to power.

@@beaconofwierd1883 I guess if you have never been a marginalized group you would see this as incredibly depressing. For most women, I am sure it is a realistic depiction of everyday life.

@@backto-il9ne I don’t quite get your point, are you saying it’s not depressing to be a marginalized group or why are you objecting to the ending being depressing?

How great to see Tom Conti's face in Oppenheimer. There's a guy who has had a journey through cinema. (Thousand pardons for the pun.)

Little empathy for Ken? Did you listen to "I'm Just Ken?" That's the most empathetic heart wrenching song I've heard in a movie perhaps since Frozen's "Let it go." Also, Barbie is a movie about dolls marketed to young girls. Not sure why people wanted Greta to dissect an intellectual intersectional feminist treatise lol

I got the feeling that the reviewer didn't actually watch the movie to the end. He made a couple of comments that if he actually watched the movie he wouldn't have made.... like Barbie land not acknowledging Ken's plight and not knowing if changes in Barbie land would affect the real world.

Great review on 3 movies man, i def think that these movies are some of the better movies for the Summer a big improvement from June's release, The train sequence in MI was so entertaining, when it comes to Oppenheimer agree Nolan def found its footing and great strength to present the movie, that scene after the bomb dropped is def one of my favourite scene from the movie, and with Barbie agree not all the jokes land but the movie was great and the 3rd act def did have some flaws but overall a fun time really like the comparison to Free Guy awesome breakdown

Robert Downey Jr's character was actually one of my bigger issues with Oppenheimer (a film that I loved). It's the last few scenes of the movie where he becomes rather cartoonish: fixated on his own petty interpretation of Oppenheimer's actions. Those scenes have a grandiosity that doesn't quite match the movie. I'm not sure how much of the issue is Downey or how much is Nolan's script.
I did find it an extremely moving film, though. I enjoyed the almost classical sense of tragedy to the story of a man pursuing a course of action that he knows, at some level, to be morally abhorrent yet feels is necessary nonetheless. I could feel the ambition and sheer magnitude of the Manhatten Project (paralleled, I think, in the ambition of the film itself: the chronology crosscutting and the epic size and cast of the film is astonishing). It's been a while since I've seen a film that good in cinemas.
