Whatever harassment those involved in making this show get, its not enough and needs to ramp up. Gatekeep writing cause if we dont we get trash and boy are we getting a lot of trash these days
If Tolkien saw this, he would've had a stroke
You said at one point you did enjoy the horse riding of the Numenoreans to save the Southlands. However, if you 'slice' through that moment, it also doesn't make sense: 1) Why are the racing ? They don't know that there is a battle going on; 2) Where are they racing off to? They don't know where the battle is happening; 3) Where did they land? It's quite a long ride at the coast of what is Pelargrir to reach the area that is Mordor. You will wreck your horses. At least that's my take on that part.
That's what happened when you hire an intern to write a spin off from maybe the BEST fantasy story ever written. But why would Bezos care? By the costs of the project he did laundry half billion of his money 🤷🏽♂
I didn't watch it but when i heard about it my thought was: why? It didnt need a sequel, the story was finished. As for the insanity manifesting as musical, Precious did that snd could've worked well for joker.
As i mentioned in the other video, this is one of the best analysos videos of RoP and one of the few written in good faith
I watched both your RoP videos and you've done s great job. A lot of the videos criticising the series are in bad faith and push an agenda that the show is bad because it had women directors and people of colour, when the problem have nothing to do with that and everything to do with bad writing.
The hilarious thing about this is that Andor does a brilliant job of telling a shades of grey story in Star Wars. Andor, the multi-emmy nominated, critically lauded show. But Acolyte fumbles that ball so badly. And the "Are the Jedi stealing the children" was such a wild take for the show to go with. Because it completely ignored that the witches were in the middle of child abuse. Like, forcibly changing the girls reads to much as religiously motivated genital mutilation to me - an extremist cult forcing body modifications of a child without any care for that child's wishes or desires.
Thank you for the video. I've been frustrated with this Amazon series and I'm glad that I am not alone in my confusion. I suspect it was not created with Tolkien fans in mind and is instead for a cash-grab. I frankly find the series insulting towards the "source" Tolkien material.
"Making every character a MORON!" So true for this trash pile of crap series
Could you please stop making plotholes? FOR FIVE MINUTES!!!! also, great review!
‘Dad, please don’t f*ck this up.’ ~ Bezos' son.
‘Dad, please don’t f*ck this up.’ ~ Bezos' son. Whoops?
Thank you for actually making a good video about this!
The only thing I can disagree with is your problem with confidence. Those moments are huge in Tolkien’s writings, from Bilbo just happening to find the ring, to every one who joined the fellowship just happening to be there for the council of Elrond. Elrond never called anyone there for a council. The hobbits and Aragorn were going for shelter and wisdom, Gandalf the same, baromir because his brother had a dream and his father sent him for information, the dwarves because a black messenger came looking for info on Bilbo, the elves because Gollum had escaped, lots of coincidences all at once! Elrond said it was Eru and Tolkien used that same explanation a lot. IM NOT DEFENDING THE SHOW ITS TERRIBLE, but I thought I’d share my thoughts.
3:10 incredibly nickpicky here, but Nenya did in fact have a setting of Mithril. The other two elven rings had golden settings though, so it was by no means a requirement for them to work.
Saw this in my recommended. Just came here to say i absolutely loved both seasons.
"all the adults are acting like children".... YES.. That is a big problem with MOST new shows.. I think it's the writers growing up on anime... In Anime MOST of the adults act like either preteens or teens. It seems that most writers took THAT trope and are including it in all their writing... What seems to be forgotten is that the personalities in anime are a cultural thing and they are SUPPOSED to be "over the top" and beyond farcical.... Regular movies and characters are NOT supposed to be.
👏🏿👏🏿
I kind of always thought the power of the rings was fairly subtle, especially to those not wearing them. The elves maybe had a bit more perception toward it because they're more innately in tune with magic. Having it act like an active stat item from a video game granting abilities seems.. misguided at best.
1:13 why do people keep referring to mistakes as sins? You forego a neutral and more correct word for one with religious connotations. If I trip while walking it's a mistake, not a sin. If I make the most well written story any human has made just to sell an MLM or something it's a sin.
Thanks for mentioning the 'Durin' lore fail.
I hear your arguments, however, since these events took place thousands of years (I think 2500 to be exact been awhile since I last looked) before the LotR trilogy, I am perfectly ok with how they are doing the show since most of what is even happening scarcely is mentioned within the books. I understand the no changes crowd not liking how the show is written. I personally enjoy giving Sauron character growth as someone that is truly just benign and evil and wants nothing but to betray everyone and everything to meet his goals. I like anything that has to do with Dwarves I find them to be the most fascinating race in any version fantasy, and I very much enjoy the dwarven cast and their story within the show albeit not exactly true to the books, key word books. As solely a movie fan, no where in the movies were any of the complaints people have with the show explicitly mentioned or explained. They never explained how the wizards got there, they never specifically mentioned which race got the rings first, they never go over "Annatar" or "Celebrimbor" and how the rings were made, hardly anything is mentioned about the dwarves aside from the first movie, Galadriel kind of just exists in the movies as a powerful elf that wields a ring of power, same goes with the hobbits absolutely zero history of them is mentioned, Gandalf being friendly with them with hardly an explanation even in The Hobbit fits really well with the Harfoot storyline. I could go on and on how the show fits well with the movies, but there is no reason to. Fans of the books over the movies I understand the frustration, but that frustration would be better placed towards what the show could've been, a book series stated to be canon to the LotR books.
Without watching neither both series related to this movie, and the first film, at what time does Earth recognises the existence of Brie Larson's character? Because if I'm not mistaken, she left Earth somewhat around the 90s, kept herself as a secret/hidden wannabe Green Lantern for almost 30 years, return for Endgame's 5 year gap but only to report herself as an ally to the Avengers, NOT to Earth, and most certainly, not to humans. Then she shows up in the final battle, yes, but does so little she barely even does something worth noticing besides a note on a single page. I'm not saying people wouldn't talk about the Avengers battling Thanos' army, but her worth is...worthless. How did anyone in NY even hear of her, let alone Kamala got herself into being her number 1 fangirl? These is something I haven't seen anyone discuss much.
Eregion was a kingdom not a city😂😂😂😂
Eragion is basically a city state with the only major city being Ost-in-Edhil and within the context of the show only one city is ever shown and the lower third always reads “Eragion”. Even most familiar with LotR lore refer to the city and nation interchangeably…because they pretty much are.
Well, the show is remarkable.. at assembling people, who have not seen the Peter Jackson movies nor read the books.
How can there be a "Morgul blade" before Minas Morgul exists?
It will never stop being funny that, for the sake of the oh-so-important twist, they turned the entire structure of the story into a farce, where Sauron is already present in disguise before the forging of the rings and gets exposed-only to return a week later with a fake mustache as "Guy Incognito, definitely not Sauron by the way," casually offering to help with the forging, wink wink. This is especially absurd because of the extremely compressed timeline. If Sauron were in his disguise among the Elves for decades, helping them, it would be believable that he deceives them. Presented the way it is here, it’s just ridiculous.
"Anglo Saxon Arthurian myth" why did you have to do this...
Britons were largely “lost history” for a good stretch after Romans left the region which is why a lot of it faded into myth which was perpetuated when the Angles and Saxons arrived and ultimately took over southern Britain. A lot of northern German and Celtic myth got mixed, creating classic Arthurian legend of today. I’m American though so maybe that’s my novice take. Feel free to correct me.
@ Thank you for answering this, first of all. Secondly, great video! Now to the point: I would consider Arthurian legend as unequivocally Celtic and within Celtic civilisational framework. Yes there is obvious Angli Saxon influence, however the root legend itself is 100% “Celtic” just as Beowulf or Nibelungenlied are Germanic.
6:48 I laughed so hard. Best moment!
Would it be more fair to say the southlands are never mentioned? Weren't there like men from Harrod or whatever during the battle of Gondor? Not that I'm a stan for the show, but sometimes when there's holes in lore, it can be fine for a show/movie to fill them in.
Gonna have to make a correction. You talk about Sauron needing the ring to dominate, but that's not true. Sauron always had the power of domination. Though, it was less mind control, and more manipulation and getting people to listen. But the rings were never meant to be mind control either. This is the main reason Palantirs are so dangerous in the Third Age. It was known, at least during the War of the Ring, that Sauron had one. And having a telephone that connects to a guy that can make you agree with his evil ideas, is really dangerous. Sauron always had powers to seduce good people into evil. A power Saruman somewhat shares. The purpose of the Rings was to give him that connection with great people, so he could bend them to his will. Also, as a sidenote, the Ring wasn't just a glorified telephone. It had the power to amplify the power of the user, making great people even greater, a trait we know for a fact the 16 rings shared, though to a lesser degree.
I have watched the lord of the rings movies so many times, I have read the books several times, I have done the same with the hobbit and made my best attempt at the silmariliion. I have amazon prime already for other things so I wouldn't need to sign up for anything, I wouldn't need to do anything more than type in "Rings of power", nothing I have seen or heard about this series has made me even slightly interested in actually watching it, this video is actually the longest rings of power related media I have watched.
Why are they trying to make Lord of the Rings into Game of Thrones? Of all the fantasy stories out there, LOTR is just not the one to try and debate moral relativism
I admire people that had strength and courage in them to watch this abomination and live to tell others about it.
You could've simply shortened this whole 40 minute escapade to *Its some woke bullshit*
Hello! Can I ask what tripod you are using for your Tascam mic? Thank you! Great video.
The mic is a zoom h4 that I used in this video. It was mounted on a gorilla stand.
Забавно как нейросеть при переводе Саурона называет Саруманом, а Эрегион вообще назвала Арагорном😄
Ar-Pharazon had some ENORMOUS shoes to fill. 1 - The army he leads to middle earth is so large, Sauron and all his forces don't even bother trying to fight them. 2 - The army he leads to Valinor is so powerful and so large, Tolkien says that even the Valar are in "real peril" from these human forces. 3 - A king that could inspire and lead such armies would have to be powerful in his own right, as well as highly charismatic.
If you want to support independent work that is utterly exemplary, you'll have to stop looking for it via Zon, Didnay, Mahvull, etc. Those companies are overrun with wealthy, powerful, influential megalomaniacs who are all about COIN and PROFITS, nothing more. So, instead... try something else. Something unknown, yet intelligently crafted and emotionally cathartic. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind’s journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul’s fate revealed. In time, all points converge, hope’s strength resteeled. But to earn final peace at the universe’s endless refrain, We must see all in nothingness... before we start again." 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ -- Diamond Dragons (series)
All the queens (which seem to have all the power) are black, the only powerful people are women, characters that have never been women are now women, races that have no black variants now have black variants. This isn't a show about LOTRs, it's purely about the diversity agenda.
Small quibble though, in Middle-Earth oaths tend to be magically binding. Not in the sense that you can't break them, in the sense that breaking them makes the reality punish you for it. See the dead men of Dunharrow, Gollum's oath to Frodo (and Frodo's subsequent cursing of Gollum).
Amazon not owning THE IP rights to Silmarillion actually perfectly explains everything that's wrong with ROP.
Missing that Howard Shore soundtrack...
Just dropped in real quick to ask about your title. So, you’re telling the world that you watch “idiot fantasies?” For 3 yrs … 2 entire seasons .. and counting? Man. That’s ROUGH! Can’t wait for season 3! And, clearly, neither can you 🤣
This whole show was an osha violation.
I'm glad these review videos exist. I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to watch the actual show.
Admittedly I did immediately think "Star Wars sequel trilogy" during the first part of this video. I'm not even just saying Rise of Skywalker. Last Jedi was the same. I sure hope people have started when interviewing directors asking "did you like the movie(s) before this one?" But yeah, this movie is the rare case where the director of both movies absolutely despised the first one he made...for reasons. And decided to make a movie that ruins the whole thing.
Correction, it's barrow wights. A barrow is an old burial site. Britain's got a lot of them.
40:04 wait a minute. Is Sauron the bad guy?
