I'll give you a thumbs up Sir! I don't have a sawmill but I have a regular bandsaw that I might need to give this a whirl and see how it comes out. Thank your wife for workin the camera there at the end. Ya'll have a blessed Sunday
Good video, I like it, I suspect a lot of people did not notice but he was putting a certain angle and edge on that blade, Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
I used to sharpen my circular saw blades but now have a new bandsaw mill and no one close to sharpen the blades so was considering doing it with a round and flat file. But no way. I got to get a few drimlen stones. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this video. was verry helpfull and saved a lot of money by not needing to pay some one to sharpen my blades for the mill.👍👍 I can get them just as sharp as new now
I learn a lot but watching someone with some experience doing thinks. Don't ever think your ideas are not good .i remember a couple brothers that worked in bicycles that thought they could fly .
Them Dremel tools are handy as all get out, I have bought a half dozen of them at garage sales over the years and buy the bits and such on ebay to have different bits on each. When you need to use one they can't be beat. I REALLY like those twist loc wheels!
Good job on the video Bicknell. Glad you got the camera closer to the work. I needed a closer look. :) Do you clean the flat part of the blade with mineral spirits and steel wool or something like that?
That's how I sharpen my woodland mills saw blades. It's not any fast or slower. But the blades seen to be sharper then when there sharpened on a machine.
I did mine like this but maybe not as good, I have all the bits to give it a shot on the blade I have ready now, A little worried about the tooth set though , thanks
I have more time than money so I appreciate your video, but wondering where do you get your grinding stones for the Dremel? I haven't found a grinding bit that will last very long. Thanks
I sold my mill a few year’s ago so haven’t bought any in a while. I used to get them from ace hardware, but the stone ones may not be available anymore. Ace seems to be having trouble getting a lot of stuff nowadays.
I also use a dremel only difference is I do it while the blade is on the mill. Takes me 15 minutes I only do the face and the gullet. The blades cut like a beast .
You're completely right sir! I wood carve with a bunch of fella's and we all have learned the way sharpening works for us. We could fight over it or realize that's the way it should be. Y'all are doing great on videos. I have no clue if GoPro camera has a zoom but if it does you could zoom in a little bit more. Let me ask, does a bandsaw blade like that have much offset for clearing sawdust chips of does it need to not have any offset so it tracks straighter and doesn't drift? Also, what timber are you sawing? Did you know that if you were going to steam any wood for bending in woodworking you need air dried material not kiln dried. Just a side note of info. I always go to bed with sawdust in my nose, I'm addicted. Ha!
Yes, these blades do have a set. Of course the more they're used the more set you lose. These blades are pulled to about 1500 pounds so their life expectancy isn't long anyway. After a couple of sharpenings they're pretty much shot anyway. I'm saying mostly pine and rosin is a real problem.
+BIcknell Manor Are you going to be selling 4/4 boards? You're a fer piece from me in southern Indiana, that's a problem for me. If so, do you have a price set yet? What's the lowest moisture content you get?
What works for me is sharpening the top edge, Just the last half inch or so and barely touch it. Never have seen any problem with cracks in the gullet.
Nice work, but a guy like you with so many skills and such a great shop should be doing something REAL. These blades can be sharpened by a robotic machine, but they can't design and layout and weld up something new like I am sure you can. DESIGNATE!

Great job, love watching the guys with experience and patience.
I think you got the right idea of optimum sharpening the blade with the face, back, and gullet sharpened. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly Mike, grind the full tooth profile.
Good video, I like it, I suspect a lot of people did not notice but he was putting a certain angle and edge on that blade, Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Thanks for passing your knowledge along. God bless you.

I like this method more than the others I have seen.
Great video. Just a favor for me, I got poor eyes, could get the camera a little closer. Thanks, God bless
That's the best way I've found it works glad to see someone else's found it too makes sense to me an it's quicker then hand filen it
The main thing is that it works for you and if you have the time to do it, that's all that matters!
Right, thanks

I tried your way and it cuts like new.how many times can you sharpen the sawmill blades I have 11/4 wide blades
Once twice at most. The set will be gone by second sharpening. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
Thanks A Lot. I am going too tr y it.

Practice & patience will save you some money and give you some satisfaction. I sharpen once then discard.
sure beats a 700 $ blade grinder im in
A lot like I did sharpenin' a buzzsaw blade a lil ways back. But I did add some set. Just a handful, though. Good luck! 57
Thank you.
We have an automatic gear grinding machine

+19stoney64 I've never sold a board, tho I may someday. I should have a video up in a day or two that may interest you. Stay tuned.

My hand wouldn't be steady enough for that. I'd ruin more teeth than I sharpened.
