  • We finally have the new sawmill up and running. Our Colorado off grid property finally has the tool it needs to start building the cabin and other structures for the property.

I have an OS 31, your comment about the leftover parts was dead on with mine as well. Some parts I didn't have enough of, but some I had WAY too many of.

I bought extra bolts just in case they shorted me but there were PLENTY from the factory. I bought the OS23 thinking “Shoot! 23” logs? I’m never going to get any that big!” The third log barely made it through the guides. So if I ever buy another saw it will be the bigger model.

I originally thought that OS23 would be big enough, but I measured some of the trees on my property first. I now find that I have to trim some of my logs to fit through the OS27. Bigger is almost always better.

I'm sure it would have went better if you had more experience with tools . Like husband and wife working together . My wife is a pain to work with .lol

I haven't played with an erector set with that many parts since I was a child. Wonder if they assembled it before shipping to find any problems.

The answer is no. There were a few things each time that didn't line up quite right, but nothing that we couldn't find a solution to.

Just found your channel. Looks like a fun project! Was wondering if the dead trees are from bettle kill? What state are you in?

We lost all the trees in the Cameron Peak forest fire here in Colorado a year and a half ago now.

Is that rust I see on the carriage at 14:10?

Strongly suggest leather gloves, safety footwear, safety eyeglasses and hearing protection. You seem to be a long way from medical help. Thanks for posting though.

You are not wrong, and yes I should be better about correct safety gear. I have it all with me, but I find I am not using it as often as I should.
