    We are just starting to do streaming to assist those in our congregation that may have risk factors for Covid-19. We just purchased a BMD ATEM Mini Pro, our requirements were straight forward: 1) Live Stream the Service to Social Media 2) Record the Service and Post on Social Media 3) Connect to ProPresenter 4) Keep it cost effective, ATEM Mini Pro along with two lower end Canon camcorders with a clean HDMI Out looks like they will work well for us 5) We had to upgrade our internet connection to make sure the upstream bandwidth throughput was properly available to support Live Streaming 6) We are almost there and this video is REALLY helpful...thank you!

    For smaller churches, the blackmagic atem mini pro will be a huge upgrade and that might be the only piece of equipment you need to buy as it makes your computer think its output is WEBCAM. You can send 3 video inputs directly into it and your propresenter or proclaim output from another laptop into it. More budget friendly IMO than thinking of buying another capture card

      Using the Mini, not the Pro. I saw no advantage to it since we use OBS to live stream to Facebook and have a really decent computer (AMD 1700X, 16GB RAM, AMD Graphics card), but terrible upload internet speed. BUT, you are limited to the length of the HDMI cable and you are able to only go up to 1080HD.
      I looked into getting HDMI to SDI and back, but the cost of the SDI cables is expensive and difficult to find here in Poland.
      Also with OBS, you can record to your computer too.....
      The Atem Mini will allow you to use different frame rate cameras. I have a 50P working with a 60i with the Mini.... There is no multiview with the Mini.

      @@Reyfox1 SDI is just a Coax cable with the SDI connector. You can buy long spools of coaxial cable and build your own SDI cables fairly inexpensive at least here in the USA.

      @@Reyfox1 Re: Mini vs Pro - if you are doing multiple angles, the multi-view alone is worth the price difference in my opinion. I also much prefer hardware encoding than passing the encoding to the computer that is also doing the streaming. When you add the ability to record to multiple disks on the fly to me this PRO is a no brainer if you're starting up. We use the ATEM Studio 4k and I wish it had some of the features of the Mini PRO.

    • @Reyfox1
      @Reyfox1 4 роки тому

      @@wysland2210 here in Poland, some things are just plain expensive. Especially with the VAT. Whenever I head Stateside (I'm a native NY'er for 55 years retired living in Poland), I stock up on things that cost less than here.
      I'm not a solder type person. Made that I didn't learn it when I had the chance decades ago. I had someone working for me to do that. But I will investigate!
      As for the Pro, it does have features, but it's twice the price. We have zero budget, so the Mini works. OBS records if we want, but we only stream to facebook. We have 1 camera at the moment and with money permitting, will add a couple more. But that does take money and manpower...

    This is a great video. As a smaller church within a single camera angle we use PP7 for everything , including streaming out to Facebook. Our lower thirds are added to the stream via custom Looks and themes within PP. The only thing we're looking to do now is incorporate a Decklink Duo setup to handle additional display outputs. As we start to utilize additional cameras in the future, I'm sure we'll look into incorporating a video switcher like the ATEM mini Pro.

      Interesting they don't understand yet with the times we are in. We have a 4 camera PTZ system in a small rural church and immediately the value in that was seen because the only difference people have had in their worship is that they aren't in the pews. We started out bring all the cameras into our Wirecast on a Mac via LAN, but the camera feeds would lag at different rates making post editing a challenge and live streaming an even bigger challenge. We got the Television Studio Pro and the change has brought value almost immediately. My post service edit time after has decreased from more than 4 hours to less 1 1/2 hours from beginning of edit to posting it. That opens up 2 1/2 hours to focus and put energy in other areas and project. Plus our service audio and video are in sync always and the switcher opens up the ability to put the video feed on our big screens when the pews are filled again. Plus our live stream computer when from live streaming and recording at 720p with the Mac at 90-99% the whole service to now we are streaming 720p & recording at 1080p and the computer sometimes hits 60% but mostly runs in the 40-50% range. That will pay in the long run in wearing out the MAC plus we aren't dropping 300+ frames in a 1 hour service. These are well worth the money. If you can't show your elders the value then hit me up via FB. Our church streams are fb.com/StPaulUticaSermons. If you check out the highlights we did in 2019 they are with a 1 camera setup. Towards the end of December we went to the 4 camera setup (LIVE School Christmas Program was our first live stream all the cameras and shows the audio video delays) and then March 28th we began full online service. I have been using it now for about 4 service. It has made a huge difference.

    The only negative with the Atem Mini Pro is the single HDMI out. You can’t multiview and program feed at the same time. (Unless your program feed goes over USB-C into eCamm or OBS). That being said the amazing thing with the Atem Mini Pro is the record feature built in. I am using it every week now. Recording to a USB-C thumb drive and the entire multi cam with lower thirds shoot is recorded live! This saves hours and hours of work. Also the Atem Mini Pro has a built in streaming codec. So no need for a separate streaming PC you can go straight over hardwired Ethernet to any streaming platform.

    You can actually use the downstream key instead of the upstream key, which is easier imo. You send ProPresenter to the BM switcher with a transparent background. Then add the camera source to your downstream key. You have a dedicated button on the BM switcher that says "DSK 1 mix". That way you always have a dedicated button to add lyrics and take them down easily.

    One tip is to hook up the confidence monitor feed through the ATEM (twice), if you can spare the input. That will let you use the AUX out feed of the ATEM to the confidence screen/TV, and give you a quick way of toggling that output to main slides vs b/w, or helping out on stage for camera tests etc...

      Drew Muldrow neat concept. I’m interested in the same setup. Would you mind explaining the setup a little more? Specifically how ProPresenter integrates into the mini.

    • @drewmuldrow6381
      @drewmuldrow6381 4 роки тому +1

      Zack Collier Sure thing. I have a display on ProPresenter that is setup similar to how Jake has his livestream display at 16:10, except ours is going out on HDMI rather than SDI. This goes directly from our Mac to the Atem mini pro to HDMI IN #2 (this can be done on any of the 4 inputs, we’re using #1 for our camera). Below where Jake selected the upstream keyer in the control software, there’s a section called downstream keyer that works in a similar way to the upstream. I selected the input to be HDMI 2, and the option below it I changed to black, which removes all the black background from ProPresenter and overlays the lyrics/scripture over whatever input you’re using. The only downside is that you have to click the DSK button on the software control since there’s not a physical button on the mini pro. I don’t know if this made any sense or not. Let me know if you have any other questions. I’m more than Happy to help. I might also make a video about the setup since that would be easier to follow.

    • @JustFRAUD
      @JustFRAUD 4 роки тому

      Drew Muldrow ah thank you. I have been trying to get a mini pro but they have all been out of stock everywhere I looked. We don’t do live-streaming currently, but I think the mini pro will be a good start for us. We do use ProPresenter currently, so I have been trying to figure out how to get the lyrics, sermon notes, etc to display in the live stream. Basically I hope we can figure outa way to do the whole service flow inside ProPresenter, but have the livestream just see the lower thirds with the video. So as the volunteer is clicking through in ProPresenter, the graphics, videos, or whatever just show on the livestream. But with your setup, do you have to physically switch between 1&2, the camera and ProPresenter? And also, is there a way to remove the lyrics or sermon notes from the livestream once it is read? It would be awkward to have the lower third displayed the whole time until the next lower third is displayed. Sorry to ramble, but I have been stressing out over this.

    • @drewmuldrow6381
      @drewmuldrow6381 4 роки тому

      @@JustFRAUD You don't have to switch from 1&2 to see the lyrics and such, they automatically overlay on the camera feed once you click the downstream keyer. Also, if you turn the downstream keyer off, the lyrics/scripture go away and leave a clean camera feed. The only time we switch between 1&2 is for bumper videos and the countdown as those are displayed instead of the camera.

    Also, Jake mentions that you need to ensure that all video sources are sending the same frame rates, which is a good idea anyhow, but all inputs on the ATEM switchers have low latency re-sync. So if you'e cameras cannot output the same format the switcher will take care of it. This is not an issue with most modern cameras however. Most will do at least 1080 at 30fps.

    One suggestion I give to everyone who is looking to LIVE stream, the ATEM HD works best. Don't go for 4k unless you're planning to archive it. Facebook and UA-cam only give the option to stream in 720p. Only Twitch and Mixer, from my understanding, allow you to stream in 720p. That is LIVE STREAMING. Now, if you're going to upload your video, then knock yourself out.

(We have a very old setup and I'm in the process of updating it from about 20 years ago.lol) We have a PC on the left side of our booth with an operator running Propresenter for our lyrics and message slides. He is sending it to our screens on stage and sending a feed into my PC where I run the Livestream and recording. I have an old Roland video switcher that is getting video from the main camera at my right and from 2 old ptz cameras on either side of the sanctuary. The video comes out of that switcher and into my PC. I run Vmix and have it set up with a feed from the switcher, a feed from the other PC with Propresenter, an audio feed from our Behringer X32 (I think that's the model), and I have a couple of overlays for our Church Logo in the corner and an overlay for how people at home can give online during our tithe and offering time. (We have a mostly older audience, but are starting to get younger couples into our congregation.) I just send the stream to Facebook and UA-cam from Vmix using streaming keys with both sites open in chrome in the background to start and end the stream on each site. Is this a weird way to do this and are there ways to simplify as I build a couple new PC's? Our pastor wants us to be capable of 4k, so new computers which I can build myself (we are running dells from like 2011. Lol), new cameras and a new switcher.

    Hey Jake! Love the channel...With the ATEM Mini Pro...there is a 4 camera limitation work around! I have a 4K HDMI 4x1 switcher hooked up to input 4. So I have cameras on inputs 1-through 3, and the 4x1 HDMI switcher Box on input #4 (as a sub group)...where I put 2- GoPro's and 2- Panasonic G7's on it, for a total of 7 HD-Cameras Feeds. The only issue is, when I switch through the 4x1 sub-switcher, there's a few millisecond of blackness, as the 4x1 switcher drops one signal and picks up the new selected signal...but I just make sure I have channel 1,2 or 3 on the program feed while I'm selecting the proper camera feed from the 4x1 sub-switcher.

    Bro! Straight fire with this video! Love it!! We’re using that Blackmagic ATEM M/E 1 4K and it’s wonderful! One question I have is: wouldn’t you rather use a downstream key (DSK) for your lyric overlay? That way it stays on top of every camera angle you have? I noticed since you used and upstream key that the lyrics only showed on that secondary angle! But bro, you probably have a really great reason for using an Upstream Key that I’m not thinking of! So thankful for you man!

      You can also deselect the yellow "Key 1" button after you put it in so it won't be affected by the switching buttons

    Hi! When connected to the Sony a6400 Atem television studio HD, only black screen and sound are output. The format on the camera and the switcher is correct. When connecting other models of cameras, everything is in order (for example, Fujifilm XT-3). How to solve a problem?

    Does the USB Webcam Out on the Atem Mini allow you to skip the capture card necessity? We use Ecamm Live, so I would think that we could just put our 2 or 3 cameras and ProPresenter into the Atem, then just do USB out to Ecamm as 1 single camera input and we're good to go. Right?

      Joel Cook yes the usb output can be used as webcam output. On the pro you can actually plug in usb drive for direct recording. Hope you answered.

    Great Vid Jake !!! We are pretty much going to setup with ATEM Mini Pro (smaller church) but I’m still a fuzzy on how to get Propresenter integrated into the production.... Propresenter is our main presentation software for in-house production, but how to send the feed to the switcher is still a little confusing .....

    Thanks Jake for your content! Great work, keep it up! I got a question: We are now using the ATEM TV Studio Switcher, but we have some micro studio cameras on the stage which is about more than a 100ft from the tech booth away. Is there a way to run & control all these cameras with one cable and maybe a hub? Because now we are running 6 SDI cables for 100ft for 3 cameras. There's no space any more for another camera placing on stage.

    Yeah.. I have this product and use it for over 4 years now...
    My only problem is that the multiviewer is not working anymore. I see the grid and audio signal is showing on the monitor, but I don't see the images from my cameras. This is very weird. I looked on the internet and many people have this issue and nobody from blackmagic team offered some solutions. It is not about the firmware, it is not about the signals from the sdi/hdmi... something hardware is gone bad.

    Thank you for such a good fairly comprehensive overview. We've been using an ATEM HD switcher with PTZ Optics cams and a Canon XA55 and a GoPro. All work well. I've been in search of a budget cam we can mount in a static form for OS use and better use the XA55 for handheld and not just lock it down. I've tried the Vixia R500 as a low-cost OS cam solution, but the ATEM refuses to see it online. I've tried a few other low-cost solutions but none seem to work with the ATEM HD. I see you show a Canon Vixia R800. Have you used the R800 with the setup? Is there any other budget-minded cams you've used successfully with the ATEM HD?

    The Word of God doesnt need all that. It is infinitely more powerful than all that expensive gear. Enough lights to see and a few mics and ample p.a. for the pastor, choir, and/or soloist is sufficient.
    Think of all the good work that could be done with all that money in supporting local and worldwide efforts, ministries, and mission work to reach people face to face who need the good news of Christ in their lives.
    I love good, heartfelt songs of inspiration. But they don't need this wall of technology to be effective.

    Hello, I need a little help. I work in TV production. I have two graphics computers that separately send video and alpha key and I wont to send it to the ATM blackmagic switcher via HDMI (4 inputs). I send that signal (video and alpha) as input to the TV video mixer (2 outputs). In case of error, I need to switch the signal from computer 1 to computer 2. But the problem is that I have to send the second alpha video as well. Can I use the program output for video and aux out as alpha key and how can I simultaneously change both signals at once. P.S. Changing the single is the responsibility of the graphics operator, not the main video mixer.Thank you
