    Great video. If you loosen the upper plenum manifold. It will gain you access to remove those hoses. Those hoses are a pain regardless. Don't forget to unplug the idle air control valve sensor and stepper motor as you lift the manifold unplug from underneath once the manifold is off you can replace sparkplugs 2 4 and 6 much easier . while you have the manifold off clean the fuel injectors . Recommended servicing at 100.000 miles anyways sensors to . Have fun I did all this is 8 hours. Btw I removed the throttle body and cleaned it along with the manifold. 4 can of carb cleaner and two cans if throttle body cleaner. Runs like new.

    Just wanted to say thank you again for the advice. I took it and had advanced auto put it on the computer and it came back with the 02sensor code.. It showed both o2 sensors by the cadillac converter are out.. Also showed advanced camshaft timing... Now just to buy the sensors and crawl under the car to replace them.. Fun fun.. Again your awesome and thanks for taking the time out of your day to help me

      No problem. Just replace the o2 sensors and see how it runs. The catalytic converter is not going to be cheap and your state might have restrictions that make changing it cost quite a bit of money. The o2 sensors could be causing the the cat to work extra hard to clean the excess fuel you're getting. Once it's running properly it may burn away any some of the soot built up inside the cat due to running rich.
      Glad you got it figured out.

    I been looking for this information for 3 months. This is the only place found on the internet! Thank you! I had put an engine in and threw away the old one with all the parts on it. This was over a year ago and I forgot about that long pipe that goes to front or to thermostat housing. I will have to buy one of those.

      I'm considering tackling a rebuild on my 94 hardbody ... What made it so difficult for you? Not sure how out of my league it is

    Yes but I didn't pull this out of a complete truck. The whole truck was cut apart before I pulled this. But yes it dealt with the weight of the engine and trans just fine. A little flexing when I was trying to wheel it around my shop with all that weight but it was fine. Nothing more than I've experienced with any other hoist I've used. I wish it was a little taller though. I may do something about that in the future.

    Nice video.
    I just picked up a Nissan Caravan Royal 1996 (JDM) which houses the same motor. I’m looking for motor oil and filter recommendations for the VG30e, if anyone can offer any recommendations?

    Did you use the Pepboys Cherry picker to lift this out? How is it holding up? I just brought one based off your review.

    Question... Got a 2003 Nissan pathfinder (I just bought) to it to Walmart to have windshield wipers replaced they topped off the fluids and then it started blowing white smoke when you 1st crank it (almost every time) . However I am not Loosing any oil... Transmission fluid or coolant.. I have checked the oil for water and found none. No milky oil no water nothing.. I have been keeping a close eye on it.The car is still running fine.. Any thoughts

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  9 років тому

      Is the smoke only when you start it? Or all the time? Does it smell like fuel at all when you start it?

    • @melissahattaway3576
      @melissahattaway3576 9 років тому

      Smell like fuel to me and only when I first start it.. It is a heavy white smoke

    • @melissahattaway3576
      @melissahattaway3576 9 років тому

      melissa hattaway It does smoke almost every time I crank it but only for a short time

      @AMetalWorks  9 років тому +1

      melissa hattaway Mine does this too. It is running rich. I honestly haven't spent the time to figure it out yet on mine. It could be many things. Anything from a vacuum leak to a faulty sensor. Honestly I would check the temp sensor. Not the one for the temp gauge. Check or replace the one that the computer uses to help start the engine when it's cold outside. The computer is running rich until the O2 sensor heats up enough to take over the computer and tell it how much fuel to give the engine.
      However you should have someone check the codes and see if it's picking up anything.

      Awesome thank you so much... Everyone (family and friends) kept telling me warped heads blown gaskets.. And I was in panic mode cuz I just bought the car and nothing they were saying made sense to me since I couldn't find water mixing with oil or any loss of fluid.. Your awesome thanks again

    I wish I had watched this before doing my swap! I am dealing with the little L shaped and 3” strait hoses on the back! I would have changed them out with the engine in! 🤬

    Great video! Any idea if the back of this engine would be similar to a VG33E ('02 Nissan Xterra)? I have a coolant leak in the back of the engine and am wondering if it's a rubber hose similar to those in the rear of your Pathfinder.

    • @AMetalWorks
      @AMetalWorks  8 років тому

      not 100% sure but i know those engines are similar to the vg30. My guess would be yes but I'm not sure.
