- It only took 10 years of whining but we finally got Cave on Steam.
Ultra mode is the hardest mode in the game by far and is the only mode in the normal game with a TLB at the end. The Mushi Ultra modes are pretty notorious for being extremely difficult and this mode is especially infamous for the last pattern.
The Ultra mode of this game is actually surprisingly doable compared to Futari's Ultra mode. All of the difficulty in this mode really lies in the TLB and reaching it with enough resources to beat it. Ultra would actually just be a moderately difficult clear if Aki didn't exist.
With certain autofire rates it's possible to get a stronger shot. With W power it's holding Full-Auto and Rapid Shot with Rapid Shot at TRIGGER TIME:1 and INTERVAL:2.
It's only really effective at close range but it's very powerful. It's powerful enough to kill Aki's 2nd phase before it even begins.
Aki has an anti-bomb shield as usual for a TLB but it has a very nasty additional property in this game. If you shoot Aki while he has his shield up it will start to shoot really fast and dense reflect shots. But the real threat of this anti-bomb shield is the fact that you can't focus until the shield goes away.
Aki's final attack is very complex and the only way to really beat it is by exploiting the screen scrolling.
First you misdirect the aimed cloud to the wall and then dash to the other wall and suicide. The cloud will be near the wall and the death makes it freeze to that point on the screen. This way you can "push" the cloud even further into the wall by scrolling the screen.
At the time of playing the stage 1 boss had major slowdown missing on his second attack that is necessary for survival so I had to bomb it. Hopefully this gets fixed.

It seems like the real purpose to this game is to demonstrate the power of the hardware.
Pretty sure this was literally one of the reasons they made Ultra - they had new hardware and wanted to push it.
They overdid it though - slowdown on Mushihimesama, unlike other CAVE games, does not depend on an internal timer, but rather on the actual hardware being overloaded
@@EvrainBrandigan it's like that for all Cave cv1000 games. There are two types if slowdown: set by programmers in certain parts, and as a result of pixel saturation (cpu bound). All games are designed arround these factors.

Around 2000 or so, hardware performance limitations made the game slow when too many bullets appeared on the screen.. Since then, the processing speed of the hardware has increased, but the developers intentionally designed it to be slow in the light emission pattern.
This partial slow mod gives the user some strength to survive a wall of many bullets.
For example, the Touhou Project PC game with a lot of bullet expression gives you the option to turn off this slow mode.
I like the fact that while most of Dodonapchi's TLB last attacks are extremely difficult, but still possible to dodge, this one is just _purely 100% impossible to dodge._

Man, now that I have this game, I'm probably not going to touch Ultra Mode for a while. That last attack was enough to convince me to stay on Original Mode, lol.

I might just for lols, I think I would definitely get past the first stage on 1cc, but not much farther than that. Then again, I wouldn't know until I tried.

TLB - Beatable only by glitching the game. Functions as a resource check rather than a skill check.

Not that it says much, but it seems MARGINALLY easier when you look only at your hit box, because it tends to open up EVER so slightly towards the bottom. Still this doesn't look fun even slightly, even with infinite lives it would be stressful 😂.
It dawns on me, that bullet hell games are really just basically scrolling maze games. The bullets are the walls.

This one is also technically possible to do without bombs. It's been done before.

+ZGK&NAZ Yeah, it's definately possible. Only the hitbox of the oval small bullets are accurate. Bigger bullets have a relatively small hitbox. I know this is usually the case with shoot-em-ups, but in this case, it's even more so. It's by no means easy to beat it without bombs, but it's definately possible.

Allegedly, however, this game in particular was using hardware that was long outdated even by 2004 standards, and some of the slowdown on ultra actually *is* the system's inability to handle having that many objects.
Before 2000, it actually slowed down under load. Since then, although the processing speed of the hardware has increased, the developers intentionally designed it to be slow.
This slow mode gives the user a bit of strength to survive in a wall of many bullets.

this is someone who not only can walk outside during the rain and come back inside completely dry, but also can probably go swimming underwater without touching any water molecules
I love how most of the bosses are “utterly insane, need to resource manage and bomb through many attacks” and then normal aki just uses very hard but otherwise dodgable attacks that can be pointblanked. Then TLB aki is actually on the easy side, except for THAT attack.

GG im wondering which type of controller you use and which ones you recommend? currently im using retrobit saturn wireless, mayflash f101 and Gamesir T4 kaleid and for some reason im getting most consistent results on the Gamesir analog maybe I just need to be used to the f101, I feel also that after a session of Zero Gunner I tend to see the speed patters of mushi much slower and that helps me, do you recommend some excercise or some routine or just practicing stages is more than enough?

TGA-RET dodges it for 10 seconds in the official superplay DVD. assy_san also fairly recently did a no-miss of Ultra and dodged it for about 10 seconds.

Normally, on games like this, the "bullets" would come so fast that I wouldn't react to them until AFTER I was hit. Though I would see them briefly enough to see the gaps.
But this final boss however, several times, I can't even see any! XD
Amusingly, this game was made by a lot of the same people that made Zero Wing. The shooter with the infamously bad "all your base" translation. Zero Wing was made by Toaplan, which went out of business in 1994, but a lot of the former employees founded CAVE who made this game.
Imagine this but using Delta time instead of varying gamespeed with framerate. Someone should make a mod like that as the ultimate troll.

When someone says Enter The Gungeon is hard and you say "Hold my beer"
Well Enter The Gungeon IS hard, mostly because you not only have to aim and shoot multiple enemies at once, but because you have a BIG hitbox, some enemies can appear literally anywhere on the screen, there's random double damage enemies, most run you don't get op, and so on
Enter the gungeon is all about luck

@@Bos_Meong I dunno, there are bombs that clean the screen and lives like touhou, and the bullets and patterns are more similar to th than to Isaac. The randomness of the loot doesn't make it a game about luck, but of how fast you adapt.
Being said that the last pattern is pretty notorious, would Blue Wish's last phase on Desperate also be considered notorious due to it being pretty much nearly impossible to beat? I've tried but nothing good of it so far. Not even sure if anyone has cleared it yet...
I played Blue Wish Resurrection no miss on Original, but I'll have to get back to the original Blue Wish to see what the heck you're talking about.
