How to use Miracle Gro with ORTHO Dial N Spray

- I have been using Miracle Gro water soluble Bloom Booster - flower food ( amzn.to/3f7NbA9 ) and all purpose Plant Food ( amzn.to/3tsF86k ) for over 4 years with my Ortho Dial N Spray hose end sprayer ( amzn.to/3o0waw3 ) to fertilize my front and back gardens. I am going to show you how I use it to get great blooms in the spring and healthy plants in the summer.

I typically fertilize my garden in the spring and summer months to promote flower blooms, foliage growth, and fruit produce. I start in spring with Bloom Booster ( amzn.to/3f7NbA9 ) then follow up in the summer months with All Purpose Plant Food ( amzn.to/3tsF86k ) . Both plant food suggests 1 tablespoon per gallon of water for outdoor plants.
Typically people would use the Miracle Gro Garden Feeder ( amzn.to/3euRnLs ), load up an entire bag of water soluble fertilizer and use it. However since my garden size is different i dont want to use the whole bag of fertilizer.
I prefer using a mixing the water soluble fertilizer into a solution then use the Ortho Dial N Spray ( amzn.to/3o0waw3 ) . It can be dialed in to specific quantities of solution per gallon flow rates. I use half a bag in the spray bottle mixed in with 32 0z of water. I mix for about 2-5 minutes until all the fertilizer is dissolved. This about half the potency, so on my Dial N Spray I use one ounce per gallon. Note one ounce is 2 tablespoons. Which makes sense as I need to match the recommended 1 tablespoon per gallon application.
I prefer concentrated water soluble fertilizer ( amzn.to/3tsF86k ) rather than bottles of liquid concentrate fertilizer as they are easier to store, less prone to accidental spilling.
The Dial N Spray ( amzn.to/3o0waw3 ) has 3 shower patterns: JET, Shower, and Fan. The jet pattern allows a straight direct stream. The shower is gentle for most plants and situations. The fan pattern is for wide coverage. The grip and trigger of the water hose is comfortable. The bottle is easy to screw on and off. The hose lock ring needs a washer, mine has been working well for 4 years basically used every 1-2 weeks during spring and summer months.
After using the hose end spray, I clean up the spray by rinsing out the bottle with clean water and changing the rate to 8 oz per gallon to rinse out any fertilizer or dye in the system. Then rinse out the housing and let it air dry before storing in my garage. My Dial N Spray ( amzn.to/3o0waw3 ) has been used over 4 years and still looks new.
Overall I am happy with the simple use of water soluble fertilizer and the hose end sprayer.

Direct Response from Miracle Grow Themselves: To apply Miracle-Gro Plant Food using the Ortho Dial N Spray hose-end sprayer, set the dial on the Dial N Spray to 4 ounces. The label rate for Miracle-Gro Plant Food is 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. To make 8 gallons of finished spray, measure 8 rounded tablespoons of plant food into the Dial N Spray jar and fill the jar with water. Mix thoroughly. Set the dial at 4 ounces. When you have sprayed until jar is empty, you will have applied 8 gallons of properly diluted spray.

8 T is equal to exactly 4 ounces of liquid, and since there is no setting on the dial for 8 T, you set it to 4 oz, which is the same thing. The sprayer sprays out 2 gallons of water every minute of continuous spray, so does this mean it will be empty completely empty after spraying continuously for 4 minutes of time???

Can I ask what people are saying about the miracle grow hose end sprayer? It seems easier as it dissolves easier with less stirring .
Simple and straight to the point: Miracle Grow Muracid and All Purpose plant foods mix at a rate of 1 tablespoon per gallon of water.
To make a concentrate for use in the Ortho Dial N Spray, follow this:
In a container, add 8 rounded tablespoons of Miracle Grow plant food.
Add warm water to make 32 ounces of concentrate. Mix thoroughly. Warm water helps the product dissolve easier.
Add the concentrate to the Ortho Dial N Spray. Set the dial to dispense the 32 ounces of concentrate at a rate of 4 ounces per gallon .
When the container is empty, you will have dispensed the equivalent of 8 gallons of product.
Hi there, I was clear when you write to mix 8 TBS (ie: 15 ml) of miracle gro powder to make 32oz (1 litre) concentrate. But I became confused how to set the dial. To dispense 32oz (ie: 1 litre) of concentrate at rate of 4oz per gallon (ie: 30ml per litre), do you turn the dial to 30 on the sprayer setting? I have the Scott’s dial n spray (the dial is ml per litre water). I get confused when everyone talks with different units galleon, ounce, tbs, ml, litre…. The miracle website gives instruction to just put the powder straight into the sprayer bottle without any water to pre dissolve the granular fertilizer into liquid form, doesn’t that clog up the sprayer, not making sense to me…
The miracle gro sprayer is different, these have to have liquid contentrate in the tank. The miracle gro sprayer, you just put in the powder and it gets it wet and sprays it out. This is different, though.
I had to read your instructions a few times but it finally clicked. The end goal is to get the equivalent of 1 tbsp per gallon coming out of the spray, and if it's doing 2 gallons a minute, and there's 32 oz in there, 4oz a gallon at 2 gallons a minute would come out like 8oz, 16oz, 24oz, 32oz. 2 tbsp is coming out in each of those 8oz. Thank you soooo sooo much, you finally cracked the code for me. This video kinda helped but honestly, it still left me very confused. Cause the math just still wasn't adding up that he was giving us. A whole bag seemed excessive. Thank you so much dude, you're a God send.
Why would the flow rate per mibute matter?
Perfect. Don't think about it any more--just do it GadgetMan's way. The only thing I can think of to add is that you probably will never get ALL the crystals to dissolve, so either pour it in the sprayer through a strainer (e.g., a paper paint strainer works well), or make sure your sprayer siphon hose has a screen on it so you don't have to disassemble the sprayer after each batch. In the case of a screened siphon hose, spray the undissolved crystals off between batches.

I notice your water pressure isn’t strong. Do you open your water at a low pressure or all the way? I notice when I use the sprayer and i squeeze gently the water color changes to clear white instead of the fertilizer color. Thanks!
