  • One of the best ways to apply the N-Ext™ products is with the Ortho Dial N Spray hose end sprayer. In this video, Paul will go over why we suggest using the hose end sprayer, as well as best practices. He will cover, dial settings, how to walk the property when spraying with it and some "what if" situations a homeowner might come across while using it.

    Great video. On my first app of Air-8, I did exactly what you said not to do at 5:30 in the video - 6 oz. at setting 6. It dumped product out so fast! I ended up spraying 24 oz. on 2k sq. ft. 😂 On the last part of the app, I dialed it back to 3 and it worked much better. Thanks for the tips.

    liked your video but I had to look elsewhere for this info. You should have stated "set the dial on the sprayer to the amount of concentrate recommended for 1 gallon of water. If the label says to mix at 1 tablespoon of pesticide per 1 gallon of water, then set the dial to 1 tablespoon."

    • @UltimateMMAFan83
      @UltimateMMAFan83 2 роки тому

      his math doesn;t add p for me on the whole 2 gal/min and then he says 6oz/30 seconds. whats in the hell is he talking about

    • @TheDylan6908
      @TheDylan6908 Рік тому +4

      @@UltimateMMAFan83 I believe what he's saying is that if u need to spread 6 ounces of concentrate over 1000sf DON'T set the dial to 6. The dial tells you how many ounces of concentrate is going to come out in one gallon. Not how many ounces is going to come out over 1000 sf. The sprayer puts out 2 gals in 1 minute so if you have dial set on 6 those 6 ounces of concentrate are going to come out in 30 seconds.

    I opted for this over the Chaplin, it works well for me. No clumping at all. I like using the nozzle dispenser on 2 so I have time to get through my lawn and get every area. I have a 5k sq ft lawn with 3k on one side 2k on another. I do each side at a time, and once I add my 9 or 6 oz, I just fill the rest with water which I saw from Allyn and works well for me. The additional time it takes to empty helps me get even coverage.
    I seem to get a better coverage spreading 32oz of liquid vs just 9oz. I feel a bit rushed when I only use product. But this is my first season using N-Ext products and the ortho so I'm just winging it and seeing what works for now.

    Another guy suggested putting in the amount you need for 1000sq feet and then filling it with water and always having it on the 8oz setting so you're guaranteed 2 minutes of spray time per 1,000sq feet essentially. In theory, that could make for more uniform coverage...but also if you have a 10,000sq foot lawn, you're going to be refilling a bunch. I guess for the products I use, I either have a bottle with a hose-end attachment that is already pre-mixed and has the sq footage listed (my fertilizers) or it's a product that doesn't really need to have exact spread (like Humic acid and liquid aerator).

    wouldn't dialing smaller make the product more diluted and dialing larger make it more concentrated? assuming the water still sprays 2 gallons a minute? i'm confused...i need 5 oz of product to cover 500 sqft. i can use at least 2 gallons of water but no more than 6. what setting should i have and how much time do i have? i feel i have only like 30 seconds to walk that area...please help thank you

    • @BBBros87
      @BBBros87 Рік тому

      You are correct. It's about dilution of the product to the appropriate amount stated on the product package for what you're applying for. The pace of walking g means nothing. If you're spraying at 6 oz per gallon, obviously the product will be used up faster as more is going into the water. You're applying more product to a smaller area the higher you go.

    From what I’ve done, I put in the amount of concentrate for my square footage. I set the dial so that I can walk through and get all of the solutions down by the time the bottle is empty. I don’t worry about the per gallons, just the square feet per amount of solution. So if you need 32 ozs of concentrate for a 3000 square foot yard, as long as I empty my bottle by the time I’ve finished the yard, that’s all that matters. 👍🏽

      I recommend filling the remainder of the Ortho regardless of what setting you put it on. Setting it to 8oz will cause you to have to walk at a pretty quick pace to make sure you apply everything evenly. We have folks that set it at 3oz, and like Allyn, set it higher. There truly isn’t one option that’s better than the other. You can apply at your pace. Hopefully, that helps.

      Negative! If you would like to make a blended application, we recommend the following pairs in the following order:
      • N-Ext RGS™ Soil & Plant Stimulant
      • N-Ext Air8™ Liquid Aeration
      • N-Ext Humic12™ Liquid Humic Acid
      • 0-0-2 MicroGreene™ Fertilizer*
      *0-0-2 MicroGreene™ should NOT be combined with any other products from the BioStimulant pack in a hose-end
      sprayer! These two applications can be made on the same day. If these two combined applications are made within a short amount of time, we do recommend watering them in for 5-10 minutes.

    I like the sprayer. My only fault with it is the distance it throws product and covers. I like moving backwards and I don't like walking back and forth....To old. Do enough of that with my granular apps! I have a couple hose end sprayers that toss almost 15ft in any direction. I mix the product so to get 1000 sqft ratios in two bottles. Only downside is I have switch bottles. But I have a cutoff at my end of the hose and carry the bottles on me. I can do a 20,000 sqft yard in just over an hour of spray time. Takes maybe 5 mins to mix and seperate into the bottles. Maybe not the best way but it works for me. Loving the products by the way.

    So the OLD version of the Ortho Dial n Spray simply stated what setting to put the dial to then you would connect the hose & spray. For example, using Ortho's Weed B Gone concentrate, it stated to set the Ortho Dial n Spray to 2.5 (I think - don't quote me on the exact numbers). Then I'd pour the amount of liquid I desired in the sprayer, connect the hose and I was off to the races. This version seems much more complicated, or am I barely listening since this seems very counter intuitive?

    So if I've walked 2/3rd of my area and my cup is completely empty, I've walked to fast. Think you you meant you've walked to slow. Don't have dish out to rent the machine, and then get beat to death running it, nor do you have to worry about irrigation heads or other "hazards" in the way by doing a liquid app. Think about this, when you mechanically aerate, what happens to the seeds that do not fall into the holes you poked? I think you should retest your hose end sprayer now that you took out the filter screen to see if that changes your gallons per minute. Maybe it jives with Allyns filterless hose end sprayer test! And that will tell us if taking the filter out changes the gallons from 2gal per minute with filter to 2.5gal without filter! I hope that makes sense! Thank you

    Going to be my first year throwing down product. After watching 100 of hours (feels like it) of UA-cam lawn gurus, I think my best bet this season is to go with hose end spray products for my small bumpy, sloping, awkward Bermuda lawn (3ksqft approx.). Really want to lay down the GreenePunch 18-0-1 with the Bio-Stim Pack. Given I measure my lawn and calculate the exact amount of product I need for the sprayer/section, would making a dry run (water only in the canister up to the 32 oz mark) be a way to calibrate my comfortable walking pace? So I start with 32 oz, set dial on 3, walk my yard at a leisurely pace, once finished I see how many ounces are left in the canister. Say it takes me 20 oz to cover a section of my yard at 3 on the dial. So when I add GreenPunch or Bio-Stim product, I’ll dilute up to 20 oz mark and aim to walk the same path and pace. I repeat the water only run a few times to average out my usage per section, but does this seem like a solid plan? It makes sense to me writing it down, you might have mentioned something similar in one of your videos, but what do you think? Also plan to smooth out the bumpy patches with 50/50 sand/soil mixture throughout the season, any worries with that while using GreenePunch and Bio-Stim? I know, loaded wordy UA-cam essay.
