I am in constant battle with myself because I truly enjoy diversity and productivity but I also truly enjoy reading randomly and lazily. 😂🤣
I also started my channel with the intention on not imposing obligations on myself and the second it gets stressful and not fun, I’ll stop. I can’t read a book a week, as much as I’d love to, so I’ll read what I can. I want reading to remain a joy and my channel is just a vehicle to share that joy. You’re making all the right decisions! 😊
Thank you! Here’s to keeping reading joyful. 🥂📚
I frequently get nutty with the TBR and then must remind myself that there are exactly zero consequences if I end up skipping any or all of those books and events. Here's to freedom!
I agree!!! I watch all these tbr videos and don’t understand how people read after drawing something out of a jar. Haha
You’ll be more productive reading what you’re in the mood for.
Yes, just jump into James. I haven't read Huck Finn, but I loved James! It moves so quickly that you can't stop reading.
Good to know! Thanks.
Thank you! I didn't know about the new Alison Cochrun book. I loved Kiss Her Once For Me. Will definitely be purchasing a copy of Here We Go Again.
Good for you in recognising your need to change your reading plans. You will enjoy your trip more if you haven't pushed yourself too much before going and reading your Scottish and Irish books later will help you remember the great time you had there.
I'm halfway through Here We Go Again and it hasn't disappointed so far. Thanks for the encouragement!
There’s a word for the phenomenon of experiencing sounds as colors: chromesthesia. Am a recent subscriber and am enjoying your videos.
Thank you!
I am definitely going to try Alison Cochrun after your description of her works. There were too many awful abusive books pretending to be romance in the 80s, so I normally avoid that genre. Take care of yourself! Read with your mood, like most people do, because your passion and enjoyment of the writing is why I watch. I don't trust the ones who feel like they are just doing it as a job. I doubt they even read all the books they claim. You're my honest, long distance, low maintenance, book nerd friend who tells me about books I haven't heard of. Lots of love to all three of you from the Pacific Northwest 🧡
Hi Greg, I attended Alison Cochrun's release party in Portland last week. It was so fun! The new local Black, woman owned romance bookstore Grand Gestures hosted. Anita Kelly, who wrote the amazing queer romance "Something Wild & Wonderful," was on the talk panel, so I was able to get that signed as well. Anita also has a new Sapphic novel out, "How You Get the Girl," which is also wonderful, but I liked Something Wild with the boys more. It was a fun event.
Even though I got rid of most of my TBR by the end of last year, and didn't impose any reading challenges on myself, my decision to read through the women's prize has totally ruined my reading this year and I feel like I've once again imposed a total lack of fun in my reading life. Why do we do this to ourselves! 😅I've just started reading Wolf Hall and don't plan on reading anything else until it's done - taking that pressure off means I am absolutely loving the book and I don't care how long it takes me to finish ☺
"James" is a book that lives up to the hype. I read "Huckleberry Finn" before jumping in and I'm glad that I did. I'm not sure that I would have picked up on all of the references. 😎📚👍
I loved All the Right Notes
I think you should adopt a pet squirrel so Teddy could have a friend to play with. 😂
That would end so badly so quickly
🤣😂🫣😱
@@SupposedlyFun ha ha! Your house would be destroyed.
I don't think I've ever said how much your videos mean to me. They mean a LOT. I thoroughly enjoy your insights, passion for books, queerness and obviously Teddy! It's also nice to know I'm not the only one obsessed with the Pulitzer winners. Thank you so much 🩵🩵🩵
Also a mood reader…the most I can commit to off-mood is my monthly book club read. I’m currently reading The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery. I was introduced to her books thanks to the reading wrap ups with you and Joel. I loved Of Time and Turtles and now enjoying this title even more, fascinating ❤
Don’t beat yourself up about reading. I made a big list of possibilities and then read one m/m romance and a reread of a feel good book. I’ve been struggling with insomnia and health issues and I can’t seem to motivate myself.
❤ Let it goooo! Let it goooo! From one mood reader to another! Let it goooo! I feel as if you & Joel could be my UA-cam brothers! I will be devastated if you ever leave UA-cam😢! Carry on my Pulitzer Pal! ❤
No plans to leave any time soon! ❤️📚🥂
I thought you said “Both my videos next week with be SHIRTLESS (related)!!!” 😂😂😂
😂 😂 😂
It’s funny because I also overdid it for April and have put a few books back on the shelf rather than feel under pressure. If I finish everything in my pile, I can grab an extra or two at the end of the month. Weird how we do this to ourselves.
It is! But it’s good that we can use BookTube as a support group. 🥂📚
James is fine without having read Huckleberry Finn. I am putting it at the top of my list for next year's Pulitzer. I have the audio which I have been told is wonderful. I am reading Finn right now. It is great as well. My next book is The Great Divide. We went on a cruise through the Panama Canal so I am very interested in the construction of it. I do want to read Blackouts. I also want to read The Glutton.
Just keep reading no matter how little you read.
Unfortunately I have discovered that Gone with the Wind is a very polarizing novel.
It is! James feels like the front runner for next year’s Pulitzer but there’s so much time and so much could happen between now and then. We’ll see!
I bought Blackouts at the beginning of the year with the intention to start right away. I hope April will be the month I finally crack it open :D
Did you see TheDiscoKing's Booktuber Trivia Livestream? You were mentioned there in relation to your Pulitzer content.
Just a suggestion…the Pulitzer winner The Edge of Sadness ny O’Connor has an Irish link. It would check off a Pulitzer and an Irish novel. Also, it’s excellent.
Release yourself! Read what draws you the most! And travel, my passion after literature. Have fun! And sleep - I get distracted from my sleep goals too.
Just read a perfect short Scottish novel: Clear by Carys Davies. It was just released, and it's a true gem in the vein of Claire Keegan. As for Irish authors, have you read any short stories by Maeve Brennan? She's a favorite of mine and should have a wider audience. Thanks, as always, for reading and sharing!
You definitely do not need to read Huck Finn first, but I did think it was rewarding to do them together.
I don't set reading goals because then reading feels like work. I read what I'm in the mood for. Reading should be fun and relaxing.
Yes, wise, allow reading to remain pleasureable without setting challenges that drain all the fun out. I hope you enjoy your travels to Ireland (where I have lived for 16 years, ending around 2012) and Scotland (where I have lived since leaving the US in 1988 and returned to after living in Dublin). I hope you will find your own bright spots in both places and then share them later.
Thank you so much. I’m really looking forward to visiting both places.
Next time you get stressed about reading, look at the image in your window that says, “Supposedly Fun.” And if that doesn’t work, get “Supposedly Fun” tattooed on your forehead so that you’re reminded every time you look in the mirror.🤣
🤣😂🤣😂
😂
Hi ❤ I know you said you're not pressuring to read Irish books, but I liked Last Call at the Local on audio. Great narration. It's definitely a palate cleanser 🍀Just a sweet little story really. Love your channel!
Gone with the Wind is so stinking slow. My nieces and I buddy read it. We were supposed to read it with my Mom who had previously read it as a teen and still raved about it. And then she bailed before completing the first 100 pages!!! So rude.
