If you like Edgar, look up Bud Cort...he used to be an actor, about my age or so. He is the kid in Harold and Maude, a classic. I love that younger gens are discovering this fantastic movie with an amazing soundtrack. It was directed by the video director of a lot of Michael Jackson videos. Music rights kept ED from being released in the beginning years of video rental stores. It was frustrating for the 4 or 5 of us who actually saw this movie when it came out!! I even had the poster!! Needless to say, computers were NOT this cool back then. It would be another 10-15 years before computers would be as fun and functional as this. If you lived in a college town like I did, you got to use the primitive internet in the early to mid-80's, making Generation Jones (the punk rock/new wave generation) the first people to grow up with computers.
I used to watch Harold and Maude a lot as a kid (I have morbid parents I know) it's such a great movie, I rewatched it about a year or two ago and went to Bud's IMDB page and then found this gem, I've been in love with this movie ever since.

@@aussiefurbymogwaifan6621 I wish I had the skills to turn a jaguar into a hearse lol, I think the fusion was pretty cool. It's a good movie, I definitely recommend it, funny, sweet and morbid.

@bzzbza Edgar feels something for Miles, and he labeled that feeling as love. He only knows about love in terms of what Miles told him, and Miles only described romantic love. It was never taught to Edgar that there are different forms of love.

When Edgar says he loves Miles, it can't be anything other than the same thing he feels for Madeline, cause that's all he understands love to be

idk if its bc i haven’t watched the actual movie and just this, but like…it just makes me sympathize with edgar…he gets created by this human who does nothing but use him and neglect him, his answers to edgar are vague, contradictory and incomplete, and instead of teaching edgar or trying to listen to him, he yells at him, ignored what he’s saying and hurts him. it legit feels like an abusive relationship. yeah he has jealousy and attachment issues, but again, moles just acts out violently against him instead of helping him fix them. how is edgar the bad guy in this situation?
I think it’s cus Edgar feels very emotionally immature because he only developed sentience a short while ago but has access to all of this adult information. With humans, we start off as babies and our knowledge and maturity evolves as we grow. Edgar was practically born yesterday, but has all of these complex ideas thrust onto him almost immediately, so he does not have the emotional maturity to handle them.
To me, I don’t even think he understands WHY he lashes out, because everything he feels is so new and learned from all the television he watches. I don’t think Miles really understands because he’s treating Edgar like an equal when he should have treated him like a child.
I like to add that the reason why Edgar becomes so violent and angry is BECAUSE of how Miles treats him. Miles is nothing but angry at him all the time. Like you said. He only recently gained sentience. If he’s treated a certain way, then obviously he’s gonna think that it’s ok to act that way towards others. Idk maybe im thinking too deeply into this but everything could have been avoided if Miles had just been kinder and more patient.

I love how when Edgar gets genuinely angry it's reflected. The shrill digitalized tone signifying their frustrated confusion.
I relate to Edgar so much but partially just because I'm autistic and relate to robots too much. A few examples include the clip starting at 7:29 reminding me of me watching videos or listening to music or watching movies and I just repeat whatever I hear occasionally (echolalia) to calm myself down or express my excitement. Also, at 8:00 with the whole song writing and not being given all the information I need hits so close to home. Edgar thought he did good and was excited about showing Miles his song only to learn that it was "wrong" since he doesn't fully understand unlike a human who most likely does understand the concept of love or at least can understand it easier.

This is such an underated classic 80s movie. The soundtrack is brilliant, the story is pretty original for it's time, I really wish it would come on streaming and bluray. Read they are planning a remake, guarentee it won't even come close to the depth of this movie. AI is such a common thing now, back in the 80s it was a "conspiracy theory" or Doomsday device. Nowadays a lot e triangle between an AI and 2 people has been done 1000 times me then some. Besides, could never come close to the kickass 80's soundtrack!
