A perfect example of why it pays to send your Reels to someone who knows what they’re doing if you want a quality Reel to fish with. Thanks again Dennis for your Expertise and taking the time to do a good job on my Reel. That’s why I send all my Reel work to you.

I love your diagnosis videos! You did a beautiful job getting this gem from the past going again. There are few things as rewarding as finishing the service on a vintage reel and find it operating just like new. This happened to me just recently as I serviced and repaired the two Daiwa reels in the photos I sent you - a Daiwa GS-9 and Daiwa 7300B. - Chris

Well said Chris. I find that frequently with the older reels - A good cleaning and lubrication, like you are accustomed to makes it work like new - very rewarding - Thanks

I have 2 Abu 6000's in red and a black Abu 6000c i have recently stripped them all and cleaned every component and regreased.
I find a fine smear of grease or oil around ends of cage leaves a film which allows side plates to easily be removed later on in services unless they're left for years on end and also prevents salt water ingress which will stick the end plates to cage over time.
They are my favourite little reels and easy to work on, great job Dennis 👍

That’s a beauty. Nice find for that guy. After watching this I went back in on a vintage 5001c I serviced last week. Got rid of the grease on the plastic and the worm gear and oiled the worm gear. I’m shocked at what a difference it makes. Thanks for teaching me, Dennis. I guess the modern stuff has grease on the worm gear because it it disengaged upon casting. Pretty sure I’ve actually hear you say that.

I have found white vinegar removes the green corrosion. I actually made a little bath and soak components for about 15 mins the clean with a tooth brush.

Yes it does. The acid in the vinegar will help dissolve the salts and corrosion - Dennis

Nice job, Dennis. I have one of these reels and a lot of sentimental value attached to it. Thanks for the video!

I knew as soon as you took off the handle side bearing cap what was wrong I’ve got several of them also yeah you could put ball bearings in it but I have a 5500 that is a 70s reel that will cast most of the spool off of it on a cast with the stock bushings isopropyl cleaned (also parts cleaned with it) and light oil I’d say it’s like 30lb braid bout 200 yards or so worth and it casts to my backing with a 2 oz weight

Thanks for the note - I haven't tried the alcohol as a cleaner - Will do. Appreciate the tip - Dennis

The spool is from a 5000B, but not the handle. So either it has been changed or the handle is changed. If there's a clicker it's early 5000B without button and the wrong handle.

That can often happen as folks try to keep these reels fishing. Thanks for noticing and for the note - Dennis
