My Father's favorite real that he game me when i was bout 17 years old , now im 30 started acting up and screaming when casting definitely going to try and clean it. Will never replace it last thing he game me before passing away.
Dude u didn't tell us how to put it back together and I messed my brake blocks up man dang on... People make sure you're brakes are pushed into the racer or they're be fucked
Enjoyed the breakdown dude. Do you mind giving me your overall thoughts on your C4 and if you’d choose the C3 over the C4 for any reason. I’ll be purchasing one in 6600 size and the only reason I’m considering the c4 over the c3 is the having my thumb on the spool when engaging the reel. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again
Other than the thumb release, the C4 has a quicker retrieve ratio. I myself prefer the C3. If you like how the C4 is setup then you will love an Abu Record reel.
@@ThatManDWill wow that’s a nice reel! Super low gear ratio tho 4.7:1 I believe. I’ll be slinging 1-3oz while fishing with it. Thinking the C3 may be the way to go
The biggest differences between the two is the thumb bar and gear ratio. The C4 also has an additional bearing in the level wind mechanism, which should improve casting slightly. The C4 is 6.3:1 while the C4 is 5.3:1. It all comes down to which style you prefer, thumb bar or button for casting.
Something you might bw able to help me with. I've had fierce debates with some UA-cam reel servicing people about the one way roller clutch through which the brass crank shaft runs. Some of these guys seem to paint everything in sight with blue grease and one of them insists that the one-way clutch bearing MUST be too. But I'm reading that crusty grease gets stuck in the works of the needles and other tiny parts oinside those bearings and it causes them to fail - so the reel can wind backwards. My view is that those culutch bearings should be kept clean and nearly dry with just a few drops of something like transmission fluid to lubricate them;light reel oil if that's all you have. To me, grease means death to those bearings. Can you help me with what lubrication that bearing is suposed to have?
I see that the side of the spool is fouling against the brake drum. Thee should be a spacer between the bearing on that side and the spool. I wonder ifthat sacer is missing?
Thats teh exact real I have. Haven't used it in 20 years and it was squealing when casting. I will order the grease and oil and take it apart and give it some love.
Let us know how it goes!
I have the same real and it's clicking when I reel it and I can't get the button to come back up when I push it@OnTheHookFishingTV what do you think the problem is?
Stripped gear
@@BRC21 thanks
@@martin-dt9kw I got a ambassadeur doing that too lmao
I can't get my spool tension any tighter, but knob is as far as it will go
After I push the button and cast I then have to pull the button back out to reel back in. Button won't unclick automatically. I think there's sand in there
Ah ha - our tool kit does not have the spanner needed to remnove the handle! So strange.
I lost that fucking clip. Whats it called anyone know?
When reeling in the real is going in reverse,
Put reel in a gallon plastic bag when removing flying parts.
I never put an oil on brake blocks and on brake drum. If you want less braking effect, put on less brake block. Sooner or later, oil will become gunk and the braking will become erratic. But it is ok if you always service that part.
i just had my opened and cleaned up but i dont know why but the spool is having the need major friction to cast any ideas anyone ?
This is great help. Thank you. I have about 10 abu round reels, but 5 are broken. All reels have same issues : pawl, driver shaft, handle connections. I just cannot understand why abu parts are not sold openly. This is why people dont buy abu reels. My 10 reels are all relatively recent ones and they are now on cellar. They are so poorly built. But I like the design.
Hi ,wonder if you could help me with a problem, Ive been using a pair of mag converted blue abu elite's 65s for 30+ years fishing and tournament casting ,i recently had a handle back spinning under pressure should i be looking at gears or could it the anti reverse bearing?
On 30+ abu ambassadeur reel, it likely using anti reverse bearing. First, you should clean it using rag soaked with lighter fluid let it dry and apply thin grease. If the prob still persist, change the one way bearing.
I was given an Abu Garcia 5600C round reel. The paw and thumb bar neither work. Who do you recommend for cleaning and parts repair?
Try 2nd chance tackle out of NJ
Great video! I have been having issues my my ambassadors reel for a few months now and it appears to be getting worse. Casts fine but after I re-engage the reel to retrieve, especially with heavier lures, the handle will slip whilst retrieving the lure (I continued to rotate the handle but no line is being retrieved). Simultaneously, I hear a low clicking noise. Do you think I would just need to give the reel a bit of maintenance?
Thanks in advance 👍🏻
It sounds like you've either pinched a brake block between the brake plate and the frame, or you've gotten grease penetration through your drag stack and your drag is slipping. Both are extremely common and both are easy fixes. Open it up, check both situations (you can visually look at both parts and it'll be obvious) and clean and lube and it will probably be fine afterward.
Great Video! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching
ambassadeur reel bearings are sealed like in the 5600c4 - how do i clean them? like in lighter fluid and oil the bearings...how do i unseal the bearing?
You can try the lighter fluid method, in my experience, its very difficult to fix a bad bearing. There is a tiny snap ring that holds the side plate on the bearing but its really not worth the effort to try get into them, this is a very inexpensive part, best to replace it. You can order a replacement bearing from Abu Garcia's website. Scroll down to the bottom and click 'Contact Us" or measure the bearing and order the same size from any number of places online. Hope that helps! -Nic
Casting out and then retrieving the spool won’t lock to keep from going back out
Is this a question or a statement?
My 5601 is slipping and the handle will occasionally spin backwards and the reel itself will slip back a few inches meaning its quite difficult to set the hook. Any idea what it is? Any help would be massively appreciated.
I'm having the same problem 😂
That could be a bad one way bearing. You should clean it first and put little grease. If still not ok, then time to change it.
Thanks for sharing from argentina
Fantastic video
I have the 6500 when I cast out and start to reel in the spool does not engage. Any thoughts on what it could be?
