The Free Masons in my town (masonic lodge) gave me a college scholarship so idk man they gave me some charity
They also have a "branch" of other Masons called The Shriners. They make these big hospitals for children with special needs and are very open about it (I've seen ads on a sports channel). They seem like pretty nice and charitable people.

I know I’m late, but my dad was a free mason. I remember going to the lodge as a kid when they would do get togethers when a brother would go up in rank. He could invite his family, they’d all make their “homemade chili” that was never really good. Then sometimes they’d do summer fairs with local businesses. My dad was all the way up to 32 and that’s the highest he could go in Ohio. He thought he could get in the Illuminati, that was his original plan. But to go to Washington, and get to a higher rank, you have to be chosen. When my dad passed away, they donated 12 thousand to our family for funeral costs. They also go college grants! I do really believe in the Free Masons. It’s a good brotherhood and I’m proud my dad was a part of it. No lizard people in Ohio tho.

MangoThing okay so I replied to your comment and I realized I read it wrong, I thought you were asking if I’m corn. I am corn. But Ohio isn’t all farms, it’s got major cities and then suburbs from those cities. But a great deal of the empty space between cities is all farm land. We are the roller coaster capital though! If you want some real sick ass coasters then I would recommend visiting. There’s a lot of metro parks to drown out the boring parts. And Lake Erie is kind of cool. But Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati are all our bigger cities and are pretty fun to explore. Ohio is actually developing a lot, I work construction and it seems that the farms here and getting bought out and housing developments are taking over.

Yeah my dad’s a free mason and he’s not allowed to speak about anything that goes on during their meetings. He pays his dues, goes to the meetings, and that’s all I know about it.
Sounds about right. I know some minor things because I have been around it most of my life. But, nothing that really gives anything away or that hasn't been in documentaries. Grandfather and father are both masons. I was a member of one of the youth orders. It's where I met my husband who is a 5th generation master Mason as well.
my grandpa's a free mason! i tried asking him about it and he just showed me this free mason book thing, and told me this story about how he became friends with this taxi driver in a foreign country because he was a free mason too.

I know this is 3 yrs old but I had to comment. My father in law was a Mason, we lost him 2 months ago to covid, they did a Masonic ritual at his funeral. It was pretty neat. But in the 20 yrs I knew the man, he never spoke about what went on at the meetings. He was the treasurer tho.

I haven't gotten all the way through yet but I wanted to give a suggestion before I forget. If you didn't mention them and haven't heard of them you should look up cicada 3301. Every year they release an insanely cryptic and hard hunt/puzzle/code cracking challenge and if you finish it you get invited to join them. No one really knows what they do and I think once someone joins they basically disappear from the internet. Shits wild and so interesting.

my father is a Free Mason. He is also part of an offshoot called the Shrine. He is in bagpipe and drum band. His band marches in parades (which they get paid for ) that money is then donated to the Shriners Children's hospital. They raise thousands of dollars a year. "They march so children can walk" The free masons, as I understand it is just a group of men coming together (mostly to get out of the house and eat a chicken dinner) trying to better their community. They gather donations to give to the children's hospital. The only thing "secret" about them in there secret handshake and passwords. Both my father and brother are part of the brotherhood. Thank you for spending the truth of the charitable actions. They really do save lives. If you have child that needs help with burns, cleft palate/ lips, spinal, or orthopedic issues contact the Shriners children's hospital because they can help you, free of charge (including travel and lodging). My father is a free mason and I remember them doing a lot of things for charity/the community, while I was growing up but they were always super secretive about their meetings and goals. I still don’t know much about it myself. I’ve also been inside one or two of their lodges before.
I just wanna say, I’ve been having a really not great time recently but listing to you guys’ podcast really help. I’ve downloaded, like, 50 episodes on iTunes and listen to it whenever I need to laugh. Love you guys ❤️

Ahaha, I can’t believe you guys brought up Pentecostals or “Church of God with Signs Following.” I’m from the south, North Carolina more specifically, and it’s a thing. To my knowledge I’ve never met a Pentecostal church goer, and people in this area who aren’t apart of that church kind of joke about them too.
My sister went to one of their churches once while doing some kind of project in college (she mastered in Divinity) and she didn’t get to see any snakes, but she did get to see them speak in tongues.
As for feet washing, that’s actually not an unusual practice for Protestant churches in the south. Even a “normal” baptist may do it. I haven’t been to church in years, so any dink Fam can chime in if they remember better than me, but somewhere in the Bible there’s a passage about a woman washing Jesus’s feet and then him washing her feet directly after even though he was a holy figure, he was being humble and returning the favor. And back in those days, people’s feet got really dirty walking around barefoot or in sandals, so feet washing was a thing. So churches doing it nowadays is a way of showing Jesus’s love or something. At least it’s actually a bible reference unlike the weird snake shit.
In my area we also have another weird church cult called “Word of Faith” and they actually assaulted one on my former classmates because he’s gay and they thought they could beat the demons out of him. Gotta love the southern church cults.
JENNA. MY GIRL. That was an excellent podcast. Gave me chills and laughs. I know Julie cranks it up a million silly notches when he produces with you, but this was a level of cool and creepy that I really appreciated.

My grandfather was a Free Mason for a short time. He and my grandmother owned a business and he thought they could build connections to help grow the business. When he died he we found his 'uniform' that he had kept from that time amongst his belongings. Also a member of the church where I sang in the choir was a Free Mason, and a few years ago our local Masonic Lodge invited us to sing at their Christmas carol service. We were in the temple inside to sing and it was a very interesting experience. There were lots of eyes everywhere and I wonder if that has had any influence on illuminati mythology. They even fed us by letting us have some of the extravagent buffet they held, but we were in a back room. Even then we had like.... waiters bringing us things and checking in on us. A very patriarchal society though, wives weren't allowed to enter several areas of the building. They do donate a lot of money to the local area though.

My step dad is a free mason and I can guarantee nothing exciting happens. They have a secret hand shake and passwords like a little kid in a treehouse with a sign that says no girls allowed. Other than that they just drink a lot of beer and hang out.

Rafael Collado there are ranks, I don't know that much because he isn't allowed to talk about it, but what he's said is that at certain ranks you get to wear the Masonic ring and so it's like each rank you have more privileges I think. I think the most conspiracies come out of the fact that if a mason sees another mason they'd probably help them out more than the average person. Like for example here if a cop is a free mason and they pull someone over and realize they have the ring they'd be wayyyy more likely to give them a warning instead of a ticket.

I adore these type of podcasts because I basically get to sit and listen to Jenna act like a researcher presenting her findings like the truly intellectual person that she is and it's amazing. I love her when she acts all silly too, but it's just so interesting to listen to her talk about stuff like this.
My uncle was very open about the fact that he was a Freemason while he was alive. He had a lot of money, and would go to Freemason “events” every couple of months. He even let me come with him once when I was about 17. I was so excited thinking it was going to be some secret stuff, but it ended up being a bunch of rich older men using it as an excuse to have fun. They had stupid games and someone brought a donkey - A FUCKIN’ DONKEY. However, while they were doing shenanigans they were also betting on the outcomes of all the stupid games they were playing and at the end of the night they piled all the money together they had used to bet and were donating it to a local children’s hospital. It was a crazy amount too, roughly $250,000 if I remember correctly since it’s been about 8 years ago. Moral of the story - I didn’t learn the secrets of the universe, but I did learn that if you bring together a lot of old rich men they become 12 year old boys trapped in decaying bodies.
