    This is one of the best instructionals I've ever seen. What a great format. Showing normal people execute while Gordon guides, corrects, and talks about concept, is brilliant. I learned SOOOO much from this one video. More like this please. 🙏

    I love that Gordon fully believes in John and his theory on Jiu Jitsu. Gordon isn’t teaching the new guy any fancy submissions, he’s teaching him what Danaher states is the absolute most important thing to master first and that is pin escapes.

    Martins is one of the most amazing athletes to ever exist. I love how many strong men are starting to train in MMA. I think in the next few years we will see fighters start doing more strength training just to be competitive. We saw in the mid 90s how different supplements helped change how athletes approach their training for their sports. I think as more people are participating and watching strength sports more people will see the advantages of being stronger in every weight class. I could be wrong though.

    Say whatever yall want about Gordon. I would much rather learn BJJ from him than Craig. Every video I’ve ever seen of Gordon teaching he’s polite, respectful, answers any questions and generally just seems like a great guy to learn from. Contrast to Craig and you’re more likely to get a broken leg because his ego goes crazy.

    • @warden1276
      @warden1276 Місяць тому +66

      SAME. I went to a Craig Jones seminar instead of one of Gordon's, and I regret it. I was excited to learn from him and he was awful to everyone. He couldn't be bothered to teach jiu jitsu. He treated us like we were peasants or something lol. I'll never spend my money with him ever again.

    • @DontbeanNPC
      @DontbeanNPC Місяць тому +38

      Absolutely. I went to one of Gordon's seminars in Austin back in 2021 right after he moved there and he was outstanding. It was Gordon, John, and Tom DeBlass. Best seminar I've ever been to and they were all super friendly and helpful. They all answered some questions at the end about anything we wanted and when I asked about the breaking mechanics of the outside heel hook that I was struggling with, John demonstrated on me and then had me try it on someone else while he walked me through it. He was hilarious the whole time and I didn't want it to end because I could listen to him all night. They all took pics with everyone so when I got to the front to take a pic with John and Gordon, Gordon even joked and asked how that heel hook felt from John and we laughed. It was the coolest experience of my whole Jiu-Jitsu journey and definitely nothing I'll forget ever. I was such a fan boy. 😂 I had the opportunity to go to B team the following day but didn't. Last year I did though and it felt very awkward and like no one even gave a shit I was there. No welcome or anything from anyone. Craig wasn't there or Jay Rod but everyone else was like Nicky Rod, Nicky Ryan, Josef Chen, Damian Anderson, Ethan, and Haisam Rida. Not one of the big names from there even spoke unless I did. They clearly just want money and that's it. Huge difference.

    • @radoslavtodorov6923
      @radoslavtodorov6923 Місяць тому +14

      @@DontbeanNPC These are 2 different things. You went to a seminar and then went to train in a gym. Not all of the guys you listed are owners of B-team and you just probably paid the visitor fee. I like both teams and I wouldn't say Craig's seminars are 'awful', he just rushes things too much and is firstly money-driven, where Gordon is achievement-driven. John's joy, and to a high degree Gordon's, comes from teaching, whereas Craig just doesn't want to be stuck in a routine, and the rest of the guys just wanna compete. During my camp with Craig in Thailand, Jozef covered for Craig one of the days and he puts effort in explaining and helping people. Idk if it's the same now because his environment has influence but you're mostly right.

    They gotta change the submission rules.
    You know how in wrestling you get point for putting the guy on his back ?
    in jiu jitsu you should get points for putting your hands on a part of their body where you can cause an immediat victory.
    So if you can wrap your palm around their face - that's a pin.
    If you can wrap your palm on their throat - that's a pin.
    If you can grab their crotch - that's a pin.
    Also if you can grab their fingers - that's a pin - but only if you meet tested strength requirements above your opponents fingers in a static strength test.
    In reality eye gouging and throat strikes are what works and they end fights. The way they roll now is useless versus a "crashout" in the street.

    I'm not sure if Gordon reads these comments, but if so, maybe he can clarify something about the mounted arm triangle for me. Or anyone else can, if they know the answer.
    In this Gordon teaches to swivel the foot off of mount and to the side for the finish. This was always how I learned to finish a mounted arm triangle, but recently we see people maintaining the mount and just shifting their hips to that side, rather than fully dismounting. I was wondering which variation is preferable. I see Gordon teaching the classic way here, but that makes me wonder why others do the shift.
    I know a lot of times to escape the arm triangle people offer their back, so staying mounted makes it easier to quickly establish hooks. What are the pros and cons of each variation?

    • @gordonryan3494
      @gordonryan3494 26 днів тому

      When you mount them, it is true that hooks will become easier if they turn. So, if you know an opponent will turn, stay mounted. However, when you're mounted, your hips are still connected to theirs, meaning any bridge they do will have much more of an off balancing effect on you, and because your elbows (base of support in this case) are relatively close together, a strong bridge may disrupt the structure of the lock and force you to post a hand or to end up in bottom position. In addition, bec of the way the finishing mechanics operate, it's easier to pull your elbow down into the shoulder and push your head into theirs from side control. Generally, if I have someone who I know will belly out to avoid the strangle, I'll stay mounted and hunt the back. If I have a strong bridger, I'll dismount. Hope this helps!:)
