    Well that does it, I'm pulling the trigger on my 14, good bye VGT. Thanks for all the info and showing how this thing drives on stock fuel... really clears up any doubt for the lot of us on the fence about which charger to spend the money on....

    I’m very impressed how quick it spins. Fuel n injectors on a 5.9 should push some numbers I’d think 🤔. I was set on a 362 til I watched this video again 🤦‍♂️.

    I have a 2008 6.7 mega, I swapped for a nv5600 out of a 01 24v, bigger input, because I blew the 68. Everything is great, but I'm pretty sure I blew the HG. So doing all that with 625s, I had 425s, but going 625s, and 110# valve springs and rods. I am wanting to go to a 2nd gen swap, but thinking of a s366, so I can eventually compound it later in life.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      Honestly do yourself a favor, with a 6.7 and the flow it produces go a little bigger, it will still spool better than stock, but whatever you feel comfortable with man, great choice with the 625's

    • @-ouv
      @-ouv 7 років тому

      GREG_ALBERALLA well I plan to do compounds later on. Dual fueler, 100 or 200 over nozzles. This way I can get rid of that stock turbo and that drive by pressure

      ouv hey man you did a 68rfe to nv5600, was it a lot of work ? and how do you like it ? I have a 2015 I wanna swap 68rfe is about to go

  • @Blizzard020
    @Blizzard020 6 років тому

    I have a 2011 6.7 with 68rfe. VGT turbo is currently stuck open... is has around 160 thousand miles or 274 thousand km’s. I spoke to my tuner and he said that fixed vain turbos don’t pull nearly as well and (you lose low end power ) is basically what I understood. He also said the VGT turbo is better for tuning purposes because it constantly spools the turbo up faster. I’m currently deleted with 5” straight pipe , I have studs I just need to put them in. and I do not want another turbo failure. Not to mention the VGT stock holset turbo new from bd is like 2500$ and the 2nd Gen swap is around the same price. I mainly daily the truck and pull light stuff ( under 10 thousand pounds ) I’m considering a BD s463 or s461 2nd Gen swap because my family’s shop is a BD dealer. I’m still trying to decide what to do. I really like the sound of a 2nd Gen swap and if it works for Greg A and he pulls 15k with a s467.7 it should be good enough for me.

    Sweet truck, I bought a low mileage 2008 2500 6.7l 6 speed this summer. First diesel truck, I notice it had a lot of turbo lag especially when shifting with a load. My friend has a 2006 5.9L 6 speed and it has zero to no lag, both trucks 100% stock. I don't know which tuner to purchase for the deletes and what not, but I need to do something.

    I have a 2012 6.7 cummins. I sadly have a 68 RFE tranny. that doesn't feel the strongest now do you think it would give me transmission problems. I don't beat my truck it cost to much to fix but if I put this in my truck would it give it to much power for a stock automatic transmission. I have EFI live already but everythings stock on it.

    • @LightWaIker
      @LightWaIker 7 років тому

      GREG_ALBERALLA I appreciate the reply! Manual is just icing on the cake. Always go that direction for a tow rig. What a beauty. Thanks to you I'll be looking at doing this exact 2nd gen manifold/turbo swap after my current BD Super B single needs replacing. Sounds like a solid combination for its application. Also interesting you mentioned Gordon at Innovative Diesel, recently spoke to him about getting some tuning done. Nice to hear another recommendation for him there. You know the limit on boost for that turbo staying within efficiency? I see that boost gauge is ready to show a whole lot more.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      It can def handle more than what its seeing now, I have a pretty high PSI gauge in it now just to avoid needing a larger one if plans for the truck happen to change down the road.

    How did the turbo swap affect mpg(city/highway)? My stock 6.7 mega-cab would get about 15-16 city and 21-23mpg highway(Unloaded). Also I have the 68rfe auto. Thanks. Awesome truck Btw.

      I think if anything it might be around the same if not a little better, its also a little harder to not enjoy the new power so therefore the right foot leads to worse fuel mileage. But if you can retain the same driving it should be a little better I think, I never monitored mine. acceleration defiantly is a little more effortless. hope that helps a bit, thanks!

    Do you think this Charger would work well with a 12 valve? It is a 97 5-speed, so 215 ppump, fuel plate pulled, 4k gsk, AFC done for no fuel plate, I can't remember if the timing was advanced. All the mods were done to the truck by a diesel shop before I purchased the truck. Doing head studs right now, do you think with some bigger injectors and some tinkering it could light this charger efficiently and give me room to grow?.. Or would you suggest a S363?

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      on a 12V I would def tend to recommend something smaller, these newer trucks just tender to spool larger frame chargers easier, something like the new see 369 can support some good power and still have great all around manners, hope that helps some.

I can get a hell of a deal on a 467/67 full 2nd gen swap, I’ve already got custom tuning and an air dog fuel system and just put a brand new transmission in... but running this setup on stock fuel makes me a little ehhh...? so your truck is completely deleted. I just bought a 2015 Ram 3500 6.7. I have a 4 year unlimited warranty from Ram. What do you think Delete now and get rebate on warranty or wait until after the 4 years? what worries me about deleting is noise and smoke. where I live would not be an issue but what I use the truck for it couldn't be noisy or Smokey.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому +1

      Yes it is, my brothers previous truck was a 2012 and he bought it with 7k miles on it, doesn't sound like much right, he always ran the exhaust brake to try and reduce soot build up in the egr system that recirculates back into the engine. When we deleted it at 7k miles the soot build up was enough for me to recommend to people to delete asap, I understand the drawback of possible warrantee but lot of warrantee issues are caused by this, maybe wait 5/10k make sure it solid and then go for it! There are ways in tuning and a good exhaust to not be smokey but you will pick up some noise even with a good muffler/s.

    • @enlightment4747
      @enlightment4747 7 років тому +1

      GREG_ALBERALLA that is my big concern. I read a while back about running the exhaust brake all the time and I do. so far it is a solid truck. I said 2015 but I ment 2016. I have not had a lot of time to pull or haul with the 6000 miles on it. I have noticed the transmission doing things that I'm not use to seeing or feeling but I'm thinking that its because of not working it as hard as I should in the beginning. I will be this week hauling 1 to 2 tons at a time for about 4 runs. in hoping to see a boost in mph even 1 mpg after that. most of my driving is on the road and not much start and stop. I do tend to let it ideal to much but it is cold here and I want a warm truck. I think your right about the delete. over these next few months Ill push it harder and then deleted before 10k well maybe 15k.

    • @ryanstuckey8677
      @ryanstuckey8677 7 років тому +1

      me my dad and my brother have a 10-12-and mine is a 13 even stock the soot will build up and clog the egr and vgt. my brother and dad have all deletes. I found that with mine I tow 16,000 pounds every weekend in the summer and I have no trouble with soot. in the winter when I done tow it plugs up bad exp if the truck sits and idles. so to fix I just tow the trailer about onece a month and it burns the vgt and egr clean.

      Thanks, both 5.9 and 6.7 common rail engines are solid platforms to work off of, and everything has its pros and cons the 48 transmission is gonna be a better option than the 68 in any 6.7 truck. you can always swap short blocks if you wanted the 6.7 motor, everything is interchangeable just takes some money. hope that helps some.

      VGT performs great until the veins get stuck open with sooty exhaust.
      I feel that VGT would be a perfect match for gasoline applications.
      Otherwise its a time-bomb waiting to happen.

    • @keiferjanz3197
      @keiferjanz3197 7 років тому

      drunkinmaster1 if the truck is poorly tuned and is blowing a lot of soot then it's not only effecting the turbo. With a properly programmed engine you gain a lot more control and can run the engine cleaner which prolongs the longevity of the turbo vanes not being carbonated up and sticking. It's easy to clean the vanes if need be and the he351ve is cheap to rebuild. It's time for the aftermarket world to step into the 21st century and take advantage of a better technology.

    • @drunkinmaster1

      Even on a stock tuned diesel, VGT's have had issues.
      Not knocking the performance potential.
      It's just something more to go wrong in some people's mind.

      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      I have no CCV Filter, never had a issue with the light and a crankcase vent doesn't require suction, There are threads online or I can make a video on exactly what I did, basically have a gut a ccv filter and keep part of the base.

    • @NicT09
      @NicT09 7 років тому

      GREG_ALBERALLA I did it to mine just have the reminder no actual code. And I'm assuming the suction was to help pull to oil into the original filter set up. I've seen the threads but never seen a video on it. Might be worth the effort.

    Any experience with the 369sxe. Trying to decide between that and the 467. What would you recommend for stock fuel. Im guessing your running it with the 83/.9 housing. I basically have same truck except 2010.

    • @_greg_a
      @_greg_a  7 років тому

      yes a 83/.9. I love the new sxe line, they are a great option. But In my opinion when possible a s400 base charger gets my vote over a s300 frame. Max power out of a 369 is roughly 700 ish which is awesome, these 467.7's i have seen much more. Hopefully that helps some.

I want efi live but can only get it with the g56 and have heard a lot of bad things about it. Figured with your pulling experience you would be a good person to ask. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

    The HE351VGT on the 6.7 does not have "vanes". They have a variable nozzle which is just one moving piece. This makes it better than the Garret vane type in Fords and VW's that have dozens of moving parts.

    Greg, great videos. I love my 5.9 Cummins. Air Dog 150, 4" straight pipe Smarty Jr.
    Is there anything else I can do to get better mileage? I baby it and get 16mpg, its a 4X4, 6" lift. So I know that's hurting it. Fresh air intake? Better turbo? What do you recommend?

      I was looking into them, but from the research I found some people were seeing higher temps towing with them, I think the stock clutch style is stronger and more reliable at the end of the day.
