    Good spotting Fiddler's Green.
This was a great episode. Gilbert slowly figuring out what the convention was about in the three seminar rooms was great.

28:56 So, my perspective here is that he wasn't thinking in terms of "Will they listen to me after this?" he was trying to hammer his point home. If he hadn't done it in front of her, or had done it in a less graphic way, she might not have believed he was gone. She'd already dreamed him back into existence once, which isn't something someone who had accepted his death and moved on from it would do. She is physically and emotionally close to a deal vortex, this would just help happening over and over again until she came to terms with it, if she ever could under these circumstances, it's too dangerous to let her go through her grief at a natural pace, and a gentle path of teaching is rarely fast. There are situations where the drawbacks of brute forcing something are outweighed by the dangers of not having it, and one thing anyone chose to a dream vortex needs is the shíolrú to live with their dreams rather than in them, to bring their dreams into reality rather than make their reality dreams.

Stephen Fry is an international treasure. He was the perfect casting choice for Gilbert. Corinthian didn't kill the real Boogeyman. That was a reference to the character Swamp Thing, who's book introduced a lot of the character used in this story like John Constantine, in the show gender-swapped to Johanna.

You don't mess with the Fiddler's Green. He's got a sword-cane, an antiquated revolver, and some really powerful mfer's in his corner.

Actually, Lyta & Hector were lucky to have been given time to say goodbye... knowing Dream, that in itself was kind.
But you don't tell Morpheus to gtfo without suffering the consequences.

I always thought it was odd that Dream was so insistent that a ghost can’t “hide in the Dreaming” when we know some souls do end up there (eg Matthew the Raven is a dead person transformed into a dream).
But he was essentially haunting his wife through her dreams which Morpheus needed to put a stop to. Also, he said Hector needed to “go to the place appointed to” him and as we see in the Hell people do have afterlife fates (good and bad). The Dreaming wasn’t his fate so he couldn’t stay.
A big part of Morpheus’ character is how tactless he is. Something needs to happen so he does it, no matter how jarring that is for others. Part of his character growth this season has been learning to consider the POV of others more and recognize when he’s handled something badly (ie “nearly” apologizing to Lucienne there) Being called out by Rose was so shocking for him because people can’t usually do that to him and he’s not used to getting feedback from anyone

I think he gets one raven at a time, as one of Death's "exceptions." She's always trying to get him to relate to someone.

Matthew died while sleeping which is why Morpheus can claim him.
I imagine Hector was only able to hide in the Dreaming because Morpheus had been imprisoned. I imagine loads of ghosts over the decades found their way there but moved on when their loved ones died in the real world.

Lots of people die in their sleep. Matthew only got the job because there was one "Raven" position open at the time. This strikes me as a specific limited offer that Death allows to Dream because she thinks he needs a friend.
Hector hanging around instead of dying was because of the Rose "Vortex" thing. Ditto Lyta's pregancy. Just being around Rose made your dreaming world cross over in a lot of weird ways.
I'm pretty sure that Dream kept most ghosts out of the Dreaming, and let his sister take care of them herself, as is her job.
Dead souls persisting in the dreaming would be a huge problem if that was common. Dream gets 1 raven at a time, and can take 1 soul for that. He can also take 1 Vortex. But Hector doesn't belong here, he's a dead normal man.

Comic book trivia: While the show distances itself from the DC comics superheroes, in the comics it wasn't the Corinthian (whose character hadn't been invented yet) but the real Boogieman met his end in the Louisiana bayou in the pages of The Swamp Thing comics (issue #44). In the comics part of the reason the Corinthian knew the reporter (a blogger in the show) was a fake is because the reporter slipped up when responding to being given a number. If you gave the real Boogie man any number up to his total kills, he could describe in detail the eye color of that victim.
Also The Family Man, the guest of honor the Corinthian is replacing was killed by John Constantine in the comics.
In the comics Hector Hall had been a super-hero who died. His ghost got into the Dreaming by a different means than in the show but he also invited his wife pregnant Lyta to join him.

I really do think Dream, having changed, would have been gentler with Lyta and Hector. Except, he knew he would have to kill Rose because she was an active threat to... everything. Knowing that, he retreated back to being cold. And it made everything worse and made him enemies in Rose and Lyta.

  • @YNergy

I don't know if the Corinthian knew exactly who Gilbert was but he can definitely tell he wasn't a "normal" human being.

I think when Dream wasn't ruling his realm, it wasn't just nightmares that escaped and did things they weren't supposed to or designed to do. I think it also allowed humans to hide in dreams, because there was no Lord of the dreaming to catch them. Maybe other ghosts are in the dreaming too who are causing cracks.

Got to kinda remember that even though Dream got captured he isn’t empathetic as an all power being you don’t really think cause of your place or reason being if that makes sense.. Plus him getting rid of Hector is cause instead of going to either heaven or hell , he most likely send him back to purgatory/ limbo. Cause hector was distributed the dreaming because of Rose unknowingly use her powers. Rose is doing everything she feels is right. Always kinda happens when people get a power that can help those they care for. On purpose or not.

Love you guys. Had to subscribe to your page. The way you guys stay in the moment when you react to materials, even the movies, characters and materials that you are familiar with, is quite refreshing in a sea of wanna be movie critics that are "reacting" to content.
The Hector issue, Hector became somewhat corporeal due to Lyta's proximity to Rose. Her subconscious was breaking down the realms of the dreaming, thus giving Lyta's dreams real substance. This allowed Lyta's dreams to solidify, so to speak, and allow Hector to exist in the dreaming instead of the sunless lands or whatever plain he was meant to exist on. That's why Hector was trying to convince her to stay in the dreaming with him. The longer she stayed and built a home together the longer he would exist.

I think The Dreaming and the Waking world is the tied together - like 2 sides of a coin. It is how reality exist. So I think that if the dreaming is destroy, the waking world will also collapse.
