We love you guys
As a sandman fan im so happy about this show.
I dont want to give spoilers i cant wait for the other siblings to show up. that baby is hugely important.
Sidenote lucifer from the show lucifer is the same one Gwendolyn Christie is playing. But technically further aher in the timeline
Have you guys seen lights out?
Don't forget episode 11
Could you guys please react to Blacklist. That would be so fucking awesome :3
For a long time The Sandman was considered “un-filmable” because the comic is so surreal. But I gotta say, this is an impressively well done adaptation so far. They tweaked a few things, but the story is straight out of the book. It’s a wonderful story, and really awesome that more people will get to experience it now.
I can't help but agree with you. They turned this series less gore and dreadfull than it is on comics . Probrably Netflix did it to caught average audience , but they missed a great opportunity to show us some horror and blood.
@@sollomom well season 2 can make up for it 😈
I just hope Netflix does the whole story.
@@mikeclemens795 So do I. I'll love to watch all comics arcs on tv.
Too true. It makes me glad it hasn't happened before this, when the technology could do it justice. There are stories I am *so* looking forward to in this-- other people may want more horror, but I think they're doing it very well (and I had to skip Ep. 5 because nooooo wayyyy) and that includes all/any of the gender/race switching. They found profoundly good actors to play the parts, and none of the changes take away from the original series (in my opinion). Amazing, amazing series.
It's taboo to kill someone from your own family in this world - that's what Desire was banking on with Morpheus having to kill Rose. It's the same reason why they can't really attack each other without subterfuge.
Death exists outside of these rules. The rules only apply to everyone else. Interesting enough
Exactly right. Had Morpheus attacked desire directly or desire attack Morpheus directly there would have been dire consequences. It is forbidden for an endless to attack another endless and the consequences would end up being the attacker being destroyed. That's why I desire used someone else and had Morpheus killed Rose he would have been destroyed. That was desires long-term plan
And desire normally appears as androgynous female and male but can take on the features completely of a male or a female hence why desire was able to get Unity pregnant. Just remember that endless cannot attack another endless that is Paramount and upcoming stories
Everyone did a fantastic job on the first season from the casting call, to the writing, the costume and set design. Everyone definitely deserved a pat on the back! Can't wait for S2!
I have been reading Sandman since the nineties. Not only did the show live up to my expectations, it’s surpassed them. I was genuinely surprised more times than I expected to be. The changes made to the series adaptation were logical and completely unexpected. I was surprised watching a story I had read countless times. Sandman the TV show is beyond a masterpiece.
^
Not all of them were logical. But yeh
The comic is above par. One of the best written stories. The TV series not only did it justice but made a place of its own. Every actor in every position was amazing. Desire, Mason Alexander Park, is something amazing and I can't wait to see more.
I love that Steven mentions the ripples affecting everyone from what happened. When we see Season 2 and hopefully more you'll see that everything in Season 1 has created ripples which will just keep expanding and expanding.
I absolutely love that the way Morpheus deals with all the serial killers is he makes them feel overwhelming guilt. It’s such a perfect way to truly break psychopaths who by nature have never felt true guilt or remorse for their wrongdoings.
I still feel sick at the fact that Desire sexually assaulted a young girl to get her pregnant and have descendants just to try and trick Dream into killing his great great grandniece because he thought there was no other way to deal with the vortex. It shows just how pathetic Desire is, especially when asked by Dream if they thought they actually had a chance in a real fight against Dream, Death or Destiny, and like a small and scared child they whimpered “no”.
I do love however that not only did Morpheus show Galt mercy and made her into a dream but also allowed Lucienne to run The Dreaming whenever he is indisposed. And that instead of dismissing everything that had to do with Morpheus and The Dreaming as “just a dream” she knows everything that happened was real. True neither of those things are in the issues that this season covers, but Neil Gaiman is one of the show runners and made this change, which I much prefer.
Overall this is still one of the best seasons of tv I have ever seen in my life! And season 2 can’t get here soon enough!
While I agree with most of your comment, what Desire did was not SA. Unity was a willing participant. She loved her ‘golden eyed man.’ They may have been toxic, manipulative, and lied about their intentions for why they wanted to develop a relationship with Unity and why they wanted to impregnate her. While that is gross and morally wrong, it’s not SA. Unity gave consent.
@@nikib.7429 if Unity had known what Desire truly was and what their motives were, and that it was literally impossible for Desire to love anyone but themselves then she absolutely would’ve said no. She was deceived into having sex while she was unconscious. And in the comic itself Neil Gaiman said it was SA.
@@nikib.7429 Do we know that though? I'm not familiar with the source material and if it was addressed there or not... but Unity was not 'awake' when she became pregnant. For all intents and purposes she was in a coma and dreaming... did she know she was dreaming? I think we're given the answer within the show when Unity herself says she learned when she woke up as an elderly woman that it wasn't a dream and that someone _had_ actually impregnated her and it had all been swept under the rug.
@@thedarkknight2221 the circumstances of the comic are a lot different
@@hellsgate09 in the comic, it's explicitly SA and doesn't all happen in dreams. Gaiman changed it for the show to be less gross
The bonus episodes are two standalone episodes which expand some of the ideas put forward in the show, and the second one especially sets up/provides information that will be tied to later seasons. Love this show so much and I can't wait for next season. Great reactions!
The creators did an outstanding job of adapting The Sandman to the small-screen as everything we loved about the original source material is pretty much what we wanted in this show & they nailed it!
Azazel was such a fanboy moment for me 🎉
Probably because one of those creators was Neil Gaiman himself and he made sure that they kept the spirit of the comics!
Do watch the bonus episodes while the series is fresh in your minds! As a cat parent/person I was deeply affected by the bonus episode, 'A Dream of a Thousand Cats'. And whenever I see stray cats I remember Neil Gaiman's story The Price, about a stray cat with a cataclysmic purpose.
This show was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, and that's saying something. They captured the graphic novel in story and visuals, while still creating their own thing. The performances, costumes, set design, just everything was so beautiful! ❤❤ So glad there's still one more for you guys to watch!
Did you notice that when Rose pulled out the "thing that makes her the vortex" it was in the shape of Desire's sigil?
Yes, Dream can be a tool. He's been a tool for eons. Lucifer, Desire, the Fates, and plenty of others don't hate him randomly; we assume he's treated them horribly in the past. But he's learning, and trying, and I have to love him for that. It's admirable behavior for a human, much less a celestial being with the collective unconscious of the universe in his head.
From wiki:
'Fiddler's Green is an after-life where there is perpetual mirth, a fiddle that never stops playing, and dancers who never tire. In 19th-century English maritime folklore, it was a kind of after-life for sailors who had served at least fifty years at sea.'
I like how they know they’ve found Fiddler’s Green: walk with an oar until they find a green place where the residents ask, “what’s that thing you’re carrying?”
Getting saved by the Corinthian from Funland is like getting saved by a kraken from a great white shark.
Still, it's like how pedophiles will be killed by other prisoners. That's so disturbing to us as humans that even a serial killer is easier to understand or relate to.
As has been said before, but is worth repeating, Stephen Fry is the voice I want to hear in my best dreams
season 2 was confirmed ... cant wait ... loved the show
when?
It makes me happy to know that you and so many other people enjoyed this. Back in the 90's, I had gotten to a point where I had lost most of my interest in comics, but I was still going to the comic book store every month to get the new issue of Sandman. Now, I think this show is one of the best things ever! Lots of changes to the details of the story, but the overall plot structure and the spirit of the storytelling is just so amazingly on point with the original, it's hard to care. So much money spent! Such great performances! I almost feel guilty watching it because we just aren't used to having things like this turn out so damn good.
I admire here that Dream doesn't lie to her. He just says, "Yeah, I'm gonna kill you. I don't actually want to, but if you knew the whole truth, you might want me to."
This series is nearly a one to one of the comic with changes that work better in live action and to enhance the experience. The show is so far a masterpiece in my opinion.
This season was amazing. The main thing missing are some DC characters they weren't allowed to use probably. But I like that they aren't there to distract from the importance of the human condition center of the story. They took the source material and adapted it brilliantly for TV.
I'm ok with no DC characters aside from Constantine I'd rather have it just the way it is.
Thanks for reacting to this awesome show. Just want to say that Lyta's baby boy will become someone very important in the story.
Neil Gaiman is one of the most unique and imaginative writers of our time! Sandman was one of his first stories written when he was just in his 20s. Check out more of his work! Stardust is a great movie and he also wrote Good Omens, Coraline and American Gods (though…only Season One was good in that show!)
So Desires plan was to have Dream kill Rose not knowing she was Desires granddaughter. The endless aren't allowed to harm each other and that included their family. So if he killed Rose it would have broken the rules. Unity doesn't qualify as a blood relative so he could kill her. I don't know what the consequences are for an endless killing a blood relative but I'm sure they aren't good.
It's not a rule between the Endless, it is universal. When Rose first meet the Hecate they mention their "Kindly Ones" aspect. The Kindly Ones are the Furies of Greek mythology. They punish those who spill family blood. In other words, Desire's plan was to sic the Furies on Dream.
So weird that I'm watching your reaction to this episode, and earlier this week I was at a hotel that was also hosting a cereal conference, but in that context it was farmers who grow cereal grains.
As for a Corinthian Halloween idea, I think the easiest approach would be to paint your eyelids with teeth. That way when you close your eyes people would see the teeth
For decades there have been plans to make a live action Sandman movie, but the plans never came to fruition. It was only now that streaming shows have become a thing that it was the perfect vehicle to tell a long form mature story like this.
The series also has been adapted in an audio book production with a full cast, score which is also excellent
If you're still wanting to react to more content, there is the animated story DC Showcase: Death, which tells a short story with Death
Desire lives in a gigantic representation of their body, specifically they live in the Heart. Desire wasn't working against Dream on their own, remember. Despair was in on it too. And possibly Delirium, although we haven't met her yet. Season 2 is coming, and we will likely meet the rest of the Endless including Destiny and we may even learn more about ":the Prodigal", the missing Endless family member. We're sure to see Death again at some point too. I read all of the comics many years ago so I've forgotten what Lucifer does. I know we will see Rose and her friends again eventually, and I am sure we will see more of Lady Constantine, who was so good she deserves her own series. Very excited to see your reaction to the bonus episode, which was one of the best!
Lucifer gives something to Dream & all of the Celestials want it & descend upon the Dreaming to bribe & threaten Dream to get it from him
Most of the casting in this season was 100%. All of the Endless, the Corinthian, Fiddler's Green, John Dee, Lucifer, Hob Gadling... Amazing performances.
I read the first volume of the Sandman. And this show brought the comic to life and then some. Pretty amazing show one of the best shows I've ever seen. Plus Neil Gaiman the creator of The Sandman was heavily involved probably another reason It was so well done!
Sandman is one of the best things ever written. It was awsome 30 years ago and still it is awsome nowadays. Netflix's adaptation nailed the point, despite some little changes is all there ( most of the time scene was diirectlly portraited from comics to screen).
Yes! It was high-caliber stuff back then and still is.
The Corinthian inspired the 'collectors' with a twisted dream where they were in the right; Dream took that away
That scene is amazing.
(I originally said "That scene kills me," but I decided to change it. 🙂 ).
Remembering the Good Doctor's swagger when she killed the waiter a couple of episodes ago, and here she's broken and calling 911 on herself -- that was powerful.
Dialogue with Hob is word for word out of comics, they did an outstanding job regarding comics
Enjoy all your reactions, but especially for a show I enjoyed myself so much. The visuals from Sandman stuck around with me a long time and hope they continue to inspire you. Revel in the bonus episode!
The best thing about the series is the author is deeply involved. What they did was strip away the DCU elements and make it it's own thing. For instance Lyta (Fury) was the daughter of the 1940s Wonder Woman and Hector (Silver Scarab) was the son of the 1940s Hawkman - they just used the names and not the super-hero identities. But some thing's creep back in - Jed's super-hero costume is a nod to the 1974 short-lived reboot of Sandman (the successor of the 1940s version).
The bonus episode is like very extended mid-credit and post credit scenes. I know Nikki is going to love the first part. Gaiman wrote four short stories before he started the next big story arc. The first two are the bonus episode. The third was so super-hero centric it probably won't be adapted. Which hopefully means we start next season with A Midsummer Night's Dream. I can't wait.
i think they can do the third one because when the hell else would DC ever use that character?
This is the finale! the bonus is just extra separate stories; they weren't integral into the plots here (they are integral to future stories tho).
I loved the first season can't wait for season two to come out and I can't wait to see your reaction to the bonus episode
By the way, the comics feature a number of issues with standalone stories that are not 100% connected with the main plot but add more to the lore and to the characters.
The sixth episode adapted two of them: "The Sound of Her Wings" (about Death) and "Men of Good Fortune" (about Hob Gadling).
The bonus episode adapts two of these: "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" and "Calliope".
And there are some other great ones that will probably be part of the second season.
The point of Desire's plan was that one of the rules all the Endless have to live by is they can't kill their own flesh and blood. If Desire had managed to trick Dream into killing Rose, his great-grandniece (is that a word? Whatever), Dream would have broken that rule and he'd have had to die
This was such a fun watch with you two. Great job and way to make a stranger feel included in your dorky life ❤
I read the comics ages ago. I had very low expectations when I heard a show was being made because I honestly didn't see how it could be done. I am EXTREMELY pleasantly surprised. I can't wait to see more! The way they did the Sound of Her Wings (and the story of Hob Gadling) were 2 of my favorites from the comics. They haven't even introduced one of my favorite family members yet (I LOVE Death and Dream but there is another one I really love too. Did a fan art version of them once too but can't find it.) Can't wait for Season 2!
Loved your reaction to the first season. Can’t wait for season 2. Hope you will have a great Christmas! Love from Norway!
It was great watching your reactions to this show. Hopefully there's a season 2.
Take care and Happy Holidays.
I so hope that next season starts with Family Dinner
The biggest changes from the comic is that early on the Sandman comics had a lot more clear connections with other DC comics. Costantine was (parhaps most obviously) John Constantine. Gault is a replacement for two other nightmares that were taken from another comic (an old superhero also called Sandman). Lucienne is one for a character called Lucian, who was repurposed from a DC horror anthology comic. Matthew the Raven was a Swamp Thing character, but they changed his backstory. Lytia used to be Wonder Woman's daughter and her and her husband, another former Superhero, were in the Superhero dream along with Rose's brother, reliving their past togheter (with the implication that the two nightmares had also been doing this to that old Sandman superhero). John Dee was also a former Justice League villian, so the asylum he was kept in was Arkham and his amulet was kept by the JLA. This meant Dream had to interact with Mr. Miracle and Martian Manhunter, which served to make it a bit more clear that Dream looks different to different people (at-least if they already belive in a God of Dreams, like Martian Manhunt does). As the Sandman comic goes on these connections become much rarer, so they probably figured it wasn't worth the legal hoops they'd have to jump throught.
The second biggest change is that Dream was a bit more noticably harsher and more morally distant in the comic at the start, more like that "old" Dream Lucienne talked about. I'm guessing they started his character development a bit sooner because they were not sure they'd get more than one season.
It kinda seems like Dream is the last one to know what’s going on in his own domain
it was an adaptation for the screen. On comics he is always on control: he found out Rose, desclosed all Desire plans and managed to scape from magic prison. All of it alone.
@@sollomom Wow they really changed things for the show
Your reactions to this show got you a new subscriber several months back now and I have to say, I’ve LOVED your content. You guys are awesome! Can’t wait for more 🥰
If they hadn't already announced a season 2, I'd be going bonkers til they did.
It has been confirmed by Gaiman and Netflix about a month ago
I'm going bonkers because they haven't confirmed season 7! xD
I love this series, can't wait for next episode!
I haven't read the comics, so take this with a grain of salt:
As I understand it; drawing family blood among the endless is a BIG crime which will provide just cause to kill or otherwise punish them. So if Dream had killed Rose, even as a Vortex that would destroy the dreaming and the waking world and even though he was not aware of her linage, he would be killing Desire's child and thus draw family blood.
It is an almost perfect trap for him, if it hadn't been for the aptly named Unity sacrificing herself.
This is also why he can't really do anything against Desire now without causing great chaos, for both (or however many worlds they rule).
A mere human saved both him and The Dreaming plus he realized that Corinthian and Gault were "flawed" in that they had changed from their original purpose. I think that all these things put together, made him realize that he is the one who is flawed, which causes his significant change of personality (at least significant for him) in the end.
Definitely watch the bonus episode (two shorter eps in one). I'd say it's a must because of the info you're given. It just adds to the show.
It does hold up to the comics. The show could have looked absolutely silly. It looks amazing.
Yall should listen to the audible versions. They have a full cast & are so well done.
As for your question: I've been reading the comics since 1988, and this show exceeded my expectations for it. Even the changes made to the story were acceptable because they made the show better for it.
Was (and am) huge fan of the comics. Have been reading and rereading them since 1990. There are always challenges translating a story from one medium to another. Having said that, this show is one of the greats. It both honors and transcends the comics. It’s in the same conversation as Peter Jackson’s LOTR. The Hunt for Red October. The Godfather. Shawshank Redemption. The new Dune movie. All amazing adaptations that honor the source material, and at the same time, add the cinematic dimension that only the screen can deliver.
For years I was terrified they were going to cram The Sandman into a movie, which would’ve been a terminal mistake. The entire story needs five or so seasons to fully explore Neil Gaiman’s universe. I really hope Netflix sticks with it to the end. It is one of the greatest stories ever told.
Agreed.
Comic book fan here: I loved it
The purists have griped about the changes.
I’m coming into the production as someone with theater experience & an understanding why other media doesn’t necessarily translate directly into movies or television (I recommend everyone if given the opportunity should take a fiction into film class & read some great fiction & watch some movies or television productions & discuss the differences)
I was very excited at the casting & looking forward to see what would come of the series. I understood that Neil Gaiman( he voices a character in episode 11) was highly involved with the production & I trust his storytelling skills to sit back & see what happens
Most of the changes involved separating Sandman from the DC universe & having to rework some characters due to licensing agreements
Some scenes from the comics that were especially violent were implied rather than spelled out because they were voyeuristic & did not add to the story.
The series has reminded me of how white & male the comic is but changes in gender & race of some characters has not affected the story nor my enjoyment of it.
DC was looking to go Noir for their Vertigo line & Sandman’s original concept was supposed to be a reintroduction & reworking of the 1930’s hero The Sandman & after familiarizing himself with the golden age hero, then Neil started writing & instead of having a story about a 1930s hard boiled detective night avenging tech heavy Batman inspired hero, we got Morpheus
When I mentioned separating Sandman from the DC universe-many characters in Sandman were other DC characters-Lucienne as Lucien, Cain & Abel, the Fates in their incarnation as the Weird Sisters-Cynthia, Mildred, & Mordred, & the Fashion Thing in her incarnation as the Mad Mod Witch ( who we haven’t met yet) were all hosts of horror anthology comics.
Lyta Hall is the daughter of Wonder Woman & Steve Trevor. Her husband Hector, the son of Hawkman & Hawkwoman & was the 1970s version of the hero Sandman. TV Jed wore comic Hector’s costume
John Dee/ John Burgess was the villain Dr Destiny in the comic & he was imprisoned at Arkham Asylum (where all the crazy costumed DC villains go)
Some changes:
Comic Jed was in a lot more trouble-he was tied up in the trunk of Corinthian’s car & when Nimrod the Hunter, The Good Doctor (who was male), & Corinthian are killing Phillip Sitz (who was a gate crashing editor of a magazine not a blog-times change)-Nimrod asks what’s in the trunk & Corinthian says “oh just a little something for later”
The 2 serial killers who were reported dead or missing had been killed off in other comics & the acknowledgment of that was another way to link the comic to the DC universe. Corinthian knew they were dead, not because he killed them but because he was responsible for inspiring all serial killers & since he drew his strength from them, he knew when & why they stopped killing.
Sidebar: throughout the comic series we are told gods die when they no longer have worshippers & have to get creative with how they continue to survive. Would you consider the serial killers worshippers of the Corinthian & how many would he need before he was a god-discuss
Mason Alexander Park fucking crushed it as Desire. A standout amongst an all-star cast. The perfect casting.
Fantastic Finale...
Can't wait for Season 2!!!
Goddamnit guys your intro made me open a pack of cereal as a snack while watching the rest of your video 😅
It did *shy hello* it was my favorite comic and finally a show nails it
I can finally watch the bonus episode..been waiting for u guys to catch up for months 🤣🤣🤣
May I suggest a series? The new “Interview With The Vampire” which came out in October is EXCELLENT. The season is short, only seven episodes.
The comics are awesome! Some other movie/show content adapted from Neil Gaiman's work are: CORALINE, STAR DUST, and GOOD OMENS (short series).
Wonderful show! Episode 11 will be VERY sad and disturbing! Greetings from Germany❤
Thanks for your awesome reactions to the Sandan (you are my favorite reactors so far)!
Fiddler's Green is where the souls of soldiers, sailors, cops and night travelers go when they die.
I guess it was around 1995 when I discovered The Sandman comic, a little late to the party. Bought the graphic novel collections after seeing hype about it in Wizard magazine so often. It was definitely *not* the X-Men style stuff I was used to (which was top notch in its own right). Fiddler's Dream blew my mind back then. Gaiman has some very unique concepts. It's really hard not to accidentally spoil anything. I've been super impressed by how well they've transitioned it to screen. I'll confess I miss Dream's big Motley Crue hair, but eh, it's not 1987 anymore!
I'm glad you two are enjoying it so much, coming into it not having read the collection. My sister-in-law hasn't read it, and just loved the battle between Dream & Lucifer - she mentioned "this is a comic book show, I expected a fistfight!"
I REALLY REALLY hope Netflix does this whole, sprawling thing, because it'd be a real shame for people to only get part of the story. If it does get cancelled prematurely, I predict a big spike in sales of the graphic novels right after.
Next season will be awesome indeed, and there's SO much more coming.
They did a great job adapting the comic to screen, the things they changed made sense and were necessary when going from one medium to another. Things needed to be changed and updated to fit the new era and everything was just so well done!
Hi Nikki & Steven
I love your video reactions to shows and movies.
I need a Corinthian💀 to add to my
Curated Cabinet of Curiosities and I found them on ebay, Nikki if you want one that's where you can find them.
I can't wait for you guys to see the bonus episode it's so good!
Dream gave a room full of sociopaths the ability to feel guilt & remorse for every person they killed. A truly agonizing punishments.
Hey If you two would wanna catch up with the Comics, I think having seen s1 you can safely read the first two sandman deluxe editions ("preludes & nocturne" as well as the "dolls house"). These cover everything from morpheus getting his stuff back to his convo with death and Hob Gadling, the Story with Rose as well as the (seemingly) standalone stories of the bonus episode ( "A dream of a thousand cats" and "Calliope"). There are a few difference bur the Show is remarkable true to the comcis.
Absolutely cannot wait for the Seasons of Mist story arc.
Don't forget the 11th bonus episode!!
this was awesome and the extra Eps 11 is very cool....but self contained!!
Very fun reactions!
Next episode is elegant and world building
Don't worry, asshole is an appropriate term for Dream, but its kind of like he is more like a overly smart teenager. So he grows. But much like a teenager, as a hint to next season, he can be manipulated and played and won't listen to people trying to warn him.
*Hope this comment isn’t lost to the void*: Thanks so much for the reactions you two!! Love tuning in each week! (: My Patreon acct is going through some password issues right now, so I’m pulling the risky business of leaving a comment here on YT lol. But anywho: I’d like to suggest “Wednesday” be on the next list for consideration! The full first season is available on Netflix and it’s a WHOLE LOT OF FUN wrapped into 6 episodes!
The series did a great job of adapting the comic book, I really love it! Fun fact: some of the characters were originally DC comic book characters but had to be changed because Netflix didn’t have the rights to them. Rose’s friends Hector and Lyta Hall were actually super heroes. Hector was both Silver Scarab and The Sandman! He was the son of Hawkman and HawkWoman. Lyta (Hippolyta) was Fury, the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor. Joanna Constantine was John Constantine in the comic books. His ancestor though was still Lady Joanna Constantine. John Dee was Doctor Destiny in the comics. Both Batman and Martian Manhunter showed up in the comics but I don’t think they’ll show up in any future episodes 😢
The Silver City is not quite Heaven. It’s a tier below Heaven where the Angels live.
When I was a kid, my mother used to eat cereal as a snack after work. Unfortunately for us kids, she would often eat JUST the marshmallows in Lucky Charms. This was way back before they started sugar coating the grains. Sucked being a kid, getting excited for some sugary cereal and ending up with a bowl of just the grains.
If Dream had killed Rose he would have killed his own kin, and thus brought the Kindly Ones down on his head. Dream warned Desire to stay out of his affairs and to abandon any plans of destroying him. While the Endless are almost all-powerful, they cannot harm humans who are not threats to their kingdoms. The Endless are forbidden from spilling their family's blood. If they break these rules, they risk their own destruction.
An Endless that kills another forfeits their own life and they then manifest as a new form.
The endless abide by 2 rules which is the endless cannot kill any member of the family, or the "kindly ones" (the fates) will kill the one responsible for the murder. 2 an endless cannot fall in love with a mortal for the mortal will inevitably suffer.
Love this show
Your reaction to this episode is awesome. Some people wonder about desire. Desire in the comics appears mostly androgynous but can be fully female or fully male with the golden eyes. Plus and I'm trying to remember it's been a while but if an endless harms another endless which would have happened had dream killed Rose Walker there are dire consequences for that person that was desires plan. And also you should know that the bonus episode is actually two stories based on two short stories by Neil Gaiman and it would be neat if you did to reactions one to the first story about the cats and then another one on the Second Story calliope. I love watching your reactions you two are fantastic
You know, Nikki, for your Corinthian costume you could get shades and draw the teeth on the lenses and wear them
Lucifer’s next move may be nothing…or dream’s undoing…next stop “Season of Mists”
Jed & Corinthian road trip mini-series!
Never read the comics but Sandman along with Andor are my top two shows of the year. Possibly of all time TBH.
As a comic fan, this adaptation was a dream (pun not originally intended). There were changes to the comics, but they made sense for a different medium. The most important issues (The Sound of Her Wings/Hob Gadling, which were two separate issues that were years apart originally) were done to chef’s kiss perfection.
I hope you noticed while Dream was visiting with Desire at the end of the episode, the wall held some important things. “Sigils”, which are objects that represent each member of the Endless, and that they use to call each other. There’s an Ankh for death, and Dream’s mask, and you saw Despair’s….but the others are there for you to see and wonder about. I can’t wait for you two to meet a certain member of the Endless who is quite possibly as popular as Death (and certainly far more popular than Dream), whom many of us have fallen in love with… (tease)
Thanks for doing this show, this has been fun to watch with you! I can not wait for Season 2!
Comment on the intro and the baby belonging to Dream: Immediately, when he told Lyta he would come for the child, I thought: Cool, the kid will live in the dreaming when he dies.
Dream is of endless age, so I assumed that Dream would bring the child "home" after it's life is over, bc what the heck does Dream need with a baby or a actual kid? But because humans are humans and we can't comprehend an endless life span and how 10,000 years ago and all the way in the future seem moment to moment for Dream, Lyta took his comment as an immediate threat. Never read the comics, but I forsee bad things because of this "misunderstanding." 😮💨
Mason Alexander Park is amazing! They are beautiful and deserves a spin-off.
When Gilbert came apart all I could think was "Salad Shooter!!!!"
Lucifer goes on vacation in LA and meets a detective and falls in love 😂😂😂😂
This version has Maze, she's good to go.
Can't wait for Nikki's reactions to Dream of a Thousand Cats...
Greenlit for season 2, we'll see what they explore. You guys can take the time and read the first couple of graphic novels to get these stories. The Endless play a long game. Indeed an incredible show.
Its been a pleasure to watch you two react to this show. I have to echo what many commenters here say, this is actually an amazing adaptation of the comics series. This comic is absolutely my favorite of all time, and in fact Neil Gaiman literally changed the comic book industry with these books. He set a new bar for comic writers to strive for. Anything Gaiman writes is so worth enjoying! He just has a slightly different way of looking at things than most are capable of. Other TV show adaptations of his books are Good Omens, American Gods and Neverwhere. Other movie adaptations are Stardust and Coraline.
I don;t wish to give spoilers, but S2 should be even more incredible than this one. My understanding is that it was largely written and ready to be produced by the time this season aired. It was by far my most loved story in the whole Sandman comic. Desire's machinations will force Dream to once more confront Lucifer and, well, you could not possibly guess how it is going to turn out! It is just another amazing example of Gaiman's ability to throw a curveball at the reader's expectations.
One thing I will say, because it will only serve to foreshadow and tittilate (and because unless the show runs for many many years we will probably not get the chance to see it adapted to film anyway) is that Desire does eventually succeed in his/her efforts to get Dream killed. And interestingly Lyta becomes an incredibly important component of that.
Bit of trivia... Lyta in the books (and it is actually short for Hippolyta) is really the daughter of Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor. Before these events she was part of a superhero group called Infinity, Inc. Her husband, Hector, is actually the son of Carter Hall (Hawkman). Upon his death he was placed in of pocket-dimension of the Dreaming where he became a hero called The Sandman and battled nightmares. This was adapted into what little Ned played in this series. Hector was allowed to return to Earth and visit Lyta for one hour per day, which is how their child was conceived. This adaptation of the Sandman comics could not include any outright references to any other DC comics or characters since they did not own the rights to them. Thus the story was slightly changed. However there are subtle references. If you watch Ned in his hotel room he is watching the Super Friends (if I recall correctly) TV show, and the control room that Gault created for his superhero persona has a number of monitors that show scenes from other DC stories.
Amazing reaction as always! I really recommend The Imaginary Axis' video on The Sandman. Its called 7 Dark Gods of Dc. You would really enjoy that, maybe react to it as well?
I absolutely need a little Corinthian skull.
the corinthian has both eyes on his diet lol
