A Challenger Hellcat was egging me on as we returned from a Mopar tour and driving down the highway.
I have a 2010 Viper with 8.4 liter engine with Belanger headers, cat backs, and 2 1/2 exhaust as well as a K&N cold air filter.
The car came factory with 600 HP and Belanger said that it would be about 650 HP now.
Anyway, I cleaned the Hellcat's clock and after 3 failed attempts he gave up. He still has 6 lives left.

The Hellcat has a lot of power yes, but the Viper is lighter, well balanced, and way more aerodynamic then the Hellcat.

The Last Viper generation came with V10 640hp and the Challenger Hellcat V8 707hp Supercharger. I believe the Viper had the win because it weights significantly less and more aerodynamic.

@Jeff Lee blowers might. Superchargers whine. Blowers are typically a variant of supercharger still utilizing a mechanical fuel injection system, meaning a carburetor. Superchargers such as the demon and hellcat, are sealed everywhere but the air intake. This makes that whir you mentioned, gets compressed way more than before, therefore creating a whine. Also, prochargers whine. They're a blower/supercharger. And they whine. They don't whir. Because aside from the air intake, they're sealed. Have to be to function properly. And I know this for a fact because my girlfriend and I drive a procharged vehicle. No A/C or heater and no music playing, you'll hear that lil fucker SCREAM. I mean you hear it when all that's going, but it's not a big procharger, so it's not that loud. I do want to upgrade it though. Get a bigger one with a bigger pulley, honestly probably won't change the boost output too much, seeing as it's making like 5-8 lbs of boost as is. Probably crank it by like a lb or two. Nothing crazy lol

Some cars are faster than others but majority of the time if it's a race car it is manual and not automatic. Manuals are just better for that. Automatic is for like a daily driver.

I'd take a 2008-10 Viper GTS, RT10, ACR, 2013-16 GTS, SRT, T/A, & ACR over any Hellcat all day everyday. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO REAL BALANCED DRIVING PERFORMANCE THAN THE MOST HP/TQ, & 1/4 times....what SRT was able to accomplish with the new 16 ACR is unbelievable! It is a UNHOLY MASTERPIECE!!

My former boss had a 96 Viper GTS-R that was modded out. From what he said is 96-97 were the best years for Viper. Lowest amount of issues and nearly perfect weight distribution.
I've always loved the viper. since day one, seeing as it can go around corners. The challenger is great, it would be so much better if it weighed less than 4000lbs.
Even if it weighs 4000 lbs it would be better, they weigh close to 4700 lbs without driver!
Combine the two since they discontinued the viper put a supercharged V10 in the new hellcat challenger, that would definitely stir the pot.

Surprisingly it's not the brick it seems to be, the numbers are crazy. It may even be better than that Viper (due to that big airbrake the Viper has out back for downforce in turns). I just looked it up after the Hellcat kept up at the higher speeds and seems the nerds figured out how to make a slippery brick!!

A stock viper would do better, this has one of the TA wings in the back and that would slow it down a little. Also it's manual so shifts are slower. I think the Hellcat would win if they could fit wider tires.

It is still more practical and way cheaper than a viper. You can take wife and 3 kids out and just drive it normally and get 20 mpg. Jay Leno discussed it in his video of the Hellcat.

Never realized how amazing Vipers look.
Forgive me if you are not that old but, Vipers have been around and in the streets since 92. Everywhere in IL I have lived, some one has one. Atleast one town I lived in had two Viper owners. There was one summer in Rockford, IL when I was still a teen, gas dropped to 99 Cents per gallon and the gas station near where I lived turned into a giant car meet. Viper, Ferarri, multiple classic muscle cars, a DMC Delorean, You name it, they were there! It is beautiful how something like cheap gas brings all the car enthusiasts together in one place! The guy in the Viper (plain black 96 GTS Coupe) was an old man and he was not afraid to step on it on the way out. Hearing the roar of a Viper is a special experience in person computer speakers don't do it justice at all.
Im a Mustang guy but both these cars are beasts. That Viper still looks amazing!

It appears the intercoolers may (dual I believe) have been somewhat heat-soaked in the
later runs. The Hellcat dropped off the Viper's pace quite a bit towards the end.
(side topic) It would be a closer race with the Viper ACR because its extreme downforce would
slow it down as the speeds reach north of 80mph. I believe the ACR has the most extreme
aero package of any production car ever.

they are both crazy fast cars, honestly i like the hellcat more because of the looks. The base price for the hellcat is 62,000 and the base for the viper is over 80,000 so yeah you get what you pay for lol. If i had the money i would but the hellcat and just but 20,000 in beefing it up instead of getting the viper

Good runs! The Hellcat held its own by keeping up with the Viper. From what I could hear and see was the Hellcat fell behind when it was spinning the tires through the first 2 to 3 gears off the launch! Both are really awesome cars!

Actually, This is a fair comparison. The Hellcat has 707Hp and 650 ft. lbs of torque. While the Viper had 650HP and 600 ft. lbs of torque, but weighs a couple hundred pounds lighter. I bet the Charger Hellcat would be faster because it doesn't have the aerodynamics of a brick.

Actually the hell cat charger would still lose. The charger is faster than the challenger but only because of a 12% aerodynamic difference that part is right, but the power to weight ratio comes into place. The viper is majority carbon fiber. I mean the hood of a viper costs 40,000 dollars alone unpainted. The light weight of the viper is what helps it be as quick as it is. If the viper was closer to weight of a hell car or any other chunky sedan it would be slower. But the charger would still lose. Being a car salesman for dodge I had to do so much training and attend so many business visits it made my head spin but it was all worth it!

+shbitz no, It is forty thousand. Not 4 thousand. I know, I was shocked too to learn that. Depends which hood you have for it, but that's what the one in the showroom of my old job was. It was a very nice 2014 GTS. Price was set at 140,000 for it, and we sold it for 109,000.

Their tuning potentials are two very different things hellcats are almost pretty much tuned to the max of what they are capable of the viper has tons of things you can do with it it’s scary to think they can put over 2000 horsepower on that thing and still have room for 400 more hp depending on your budget and balls
