I just replaced my Michelin Commander II tires on my Honda VTX1800R. The rear Commander 2 was 180/65/R16 but the right size would have been 180/70/R16. Recently, in the middle of a week-long ride, I noticed my rear Commander 2 was down to the white cord in a small patch. This surprised me because my C2 tires had only about 5000 miles on them. I was more than 150 miles away from the nearest motorcycle shop, and so I rode carefully. With 50 miles to go, I was through the white cord and down to the next layer of rubber. Now I was going slowly and letting every vehicle pass me. Long story short, I made it to the shop, and waited a few days before my new Metzler 888s were installed. It was only then that I noticed that the cord was showing on my FRONT Commander 2 tire as well! Good thing I replaced it. But imagine getting only about 5000 miles on a front tire.
With respect to my new Metzlers ME888 Marathons, I'll be taking photos every 1000 miles or so. I'm hoping for 10,000 miles on the rear before I hit cord.

My 2006 Honda Goldwing has had these tires on now for about two years. I have put over 20,000 km's on them, riding between 110-150 km/h, as well as mostly touring on very twisty roads. ie.- Went to Los Angeles, B.C., Kaslo area, Vancouver Island trip, then another U.S. trip to Montana, Idaho, Wa., Oregon. Was very hot on all of the trips, with highs around 45 degrees C.! Live in Northern Alberta, Canada. These tires are excellent. I rode HARD! Ended up riding to a bald tire on the LHS before the center was fully worn. Stuck like glue, wet or dry. Rode nice on the Interstates , as well. If I was riding on flat roads I'd expect 25,000 to 30,000 km's out of these tires. Even this set will get 25,000 km, easy. Will I buy another set? Oh yeah!

I ran the radial ME 888 on a 2020 Road Glide Limited. Ride and handling on dry and wet road was great. Only got 8500 miles out of the rear and wear pattern was really strange on front and back. Front tire developed a strange road noise also. Stock bias Dunlop tires got 12,000 miles out of them. I went to Michelin commander III to see what they are like, if they disappoint, then back to stock.

I just ordered a set of these for my Honda 2014 Valkyrie. My bike has odd sized wheels and there aren't many viable options for it. I initially ordered a set of Michelin Scorchers which would have been great except they are Harley Davidson branded, so we had to go back to the drawing board and finally settled on the ME888's after looking at Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone and Avon. I've always run Michelins on my cars and had decent luck with them, and felt they would have better grip than the ME888's, and longevity is second to grip when I buy a motorcycle tire. But, I feel these will do nicely and will be far better than my now 10-year old stock Dunlops. Honda specifies a radial for my bike, but the only radials that fit are the Dunlops, so I had to settle for a bias ply. Anyway, thanks for making a quality tire that fits my ride!

Fitted the 180 Rear 4000 miles ago & the 150 Front 2500 miles ago for my F6CT and I am disgusted with both of them. German made tyres! The bike has had the forks serviced and new 440 Progressive shock fitted 18,000 miles ago. The rear tyre has high feathering and cupping and the front has feathering and cupping already, Another problem was the fact that I couldn't balance the front tire after three attempts. That along with the fact that they have to be the noisiest tyres from "new" that I have ever had the displeasure to endure. I thought I had bearings gone (newbies fitted with the tires) and it was upon checking them that to my horror I saw the state of the tires. I got onto Metzeler last October and they wanted me to send the front tire back and for me to wait 6 weeks for a replacement "IF IT WAS FOUND TO BE FAULTY" "BY THEM"! That wasn't possible (fabulous weather after months of rain) nor was it possible in winter (long story). I am driving bikes for 45 years and have had all sorts of tyres on and although I have seen feathering and cupping it wasn't until reaching near end of life. This is the first time I fitted Metzeler because I heard they were a long wearing tyre but the reviews must have been posted by the company themselves. My tyres speak for them selves!! I would go back to any of my previous choices (8,000 miles +) BUT I WILL NEVER BUY Metzeler AGAIN. I am dumbfounded that a German company could manufacture such rubbish.
I am absolutely disgusted with these junk tyres and the headache they have caused. PURE AND UTTER GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frank's Cycle Shop, serving Brevard County FL for 39 years. We stock ME888 for Harley and Cruiser bikes and our customer feedback is why we do. Nothing replaces experience. We have the lowest price out the door. No dreamers here, just experts.

11/10 I noticed my bike was hard to push and handling funny. I stopped to have a look and saw my tire looked really low, but I didn't have any cash and I was like 20 miles from home so I just tried to make it home.
I made it no problem, I was doing like 60-70mph for most of those 20 miles, and didn't realize until I used my pressure gauge that I actually wasn't just low on air. My valve stem had broke and my tire had no air pressure at all. Apparently it just doesn't go all the way flat. I've even used it to go get groceries a couple times since, because I'm still waiting on a new valve stem.
(For safety reasons I'm sure Metzeler wouldn't suggest that you just continue riding on a tire with 0psi for miles and miles. I'm just saying, if you don't have any other option it'll still get you where you need to be.)

These are a pain to install by hand there extremely stiff even trying to remove your rim after both sides of the tire are off it’s ridiculously hard to remove that’s my only complaint

These things are junk. They are coming apart. I barely have any miles on mine and the tread is coming off in chunks. If you google it there are a lot of complaints. There should be a recall before you kill someone.
