“Go buy that plane ticket to that country you’ve always wanted to visit, instead of getting frequent botox injections, just because you’re afraid of time showing on your face”
Damn doc, why did you have to point at me while you said that? I felt that, deeeep inside. Thank you.
I love her omg
Me too . That line gave me the chills

Not only she seems to speak English, Spanish and Frenchm, but is expert in the language of BASED. Props.
It’s very empowering to do things on one’s own like solo traveling
Wish I can find a dermatologist like you! It’s a struggle to find someone these days with a moral compass like yours! Thank you Dr Idriss ❤
Totally agree. I’d be super happy for her to zoom patients that are out of state.
Me too!!
Cant find a dermatologist like you either. Ones I've seen give me retin a and be on my way. 🙄
They cant wait to rush you out of the office! Dr Idriss sounds and looks different from others! Love her!
That $15 sunscreen is preventative
As a 30-year-old woman I am so disheartened by the insane about of focus and scrutiny on woman's appearance. This idea of perfection and looking like a fetus for your entire life is just so sad and out of control. It's really a deep topic and I have a lot of thoughts on it. I am so glad that my early 20s were filled with college, and solo travel that built my confidence more than any amount of cosmetic treatments could ever. I just fear for this younger generation that the repercussions of the current state of society and beauty standards is going to be extremely negative. Don't get me wrong, taking care of yourself and looking your best is powerful and amazing. But it is not the most important thing and it should not consume us
Funny old creatures, us humans. We’re flawed in so many ways, like wanting to zero in on the flaws of everyone and everything. Oh and if we find someone or something that’s flawless, well we’ll just have to start hating on that too!
Can we stop with this “beauty standard nonsense.”
It’s not because of evil big cosmetics or whatever..
It’s game theory!
Women compete with each other so everyone is trying to get an edge because beauty has certain benefits.
This will never go away even if there were no advertisements.
Women (and men!!) just like to be beautiful because of the things it brings.
And even the people who’re moaning about the so called beauty standards will still try to make themselves beautiful by doing their nails, wearing nice clothing, lip stick, earrings, what have you.
No one is looking like a tree monster here.
So can we stop it with the hypocrisy.
Even you don’t wanna look your best, that’s totally fine.
But if other people are trying to maximize their looks, that’s fine too.
After having lost my best friend due to cancer (she was just 26 when she passed away) I changed my mind about getting older. I'm happy that I can get to live and experience life instead of suffering, getting sick and passing at young age. Yes, it means that I will get gray hair and start seeing wrinkled at some point, some already now but it also means I'm alive.
Vote for Next pillowtalk on fillers
❤❤❤❤
Agree! I would specifically be interested in fillers vs fat transfer for orbital fat loss
I'm 53 and never had Botox or any other 'procedure'.
In the last 10 years I've lost 5(!!!) really near, good, loved friends that were my age and for me it's a privilege to still be on this earth. What's the problem with lines and wrinkles? It's just the society, the spirit of time and the cosmetic industry that dictates what's modern.
As Shereene said I would rather spend my money to buy gifts for friends and family, donate it or go on vacation than inject my hard earned money in my face.
But to each their own!!!
Thanks for your brilliant work, Shereene!!!
😘
Could you do a video targeted to young girls? Girls between the ages of 10-15 are obsessing over skin care products and all things Sephora. What do girls that age really need and what should they stay away from to prevent early aging and skin issues??
I think she's mentioned it before but unless there are other skin issues like acne/eczema/rosacia etc. that may require seeing an irl derm, the only skincare that age group needs is cleanser and daily spf, that's it.
If you have time, go back over her videos and see if there's something there...
There’s a podcast called “Ask Lisa the psychology of parenting” and the episode 164 called “why is my kid hooked on luxury skincare” it was a very interesting take. I’d give it a listen
@@sarahc6299SPF only when the UV index is high. Daily SPF is mainly for anti-aging and that's something a 10 year old shouldn't worry about.
@@sarahc6299 If you can prevent and cure oily skin and/or Acne at this age, that is the way to go! I could have used Accutane ages 10 to 16!
As a mental health clinician I absolutely agree with your philosophy! No Wonder Woman of all ages, but especially 29 something’s have increased anxiety and depression that didn’t exist in past generations
Do you think that maybe it may seem like it didn’t exist in past generations because people did not take mental health as seriously so they wouldn’t go to professionals and get diagnosed ? Things like that heavily influences statistics. For the most part women of these generations have a much healthier mindset when it comes to "aging" than previous generations that considered themselves "old" at 30.
@@alibrasworld I think that Gen Z had too many hover helicopters and overprotective parents. That was a big part in preventing taking risks, experimenting, and internalizing self-confidence and the ability to better emotionally regulate and tolerate emotional discomfort. Gen X explored the world with much less supervision(even though that is problematic, too). Still, I think this helped these people to have less anxiety/depression that comes from increased social and general fears that increase anxiety/depression. I'm a parent of a Gen Z and have noticed they have so many more fears that lead to increased mental health problems. Our culture with all its instant gratification that leads to not practicing emotional discomfort tolerance will lead to mental health problems. Its not rally about the specific problem,, but how one copes, receives support and gains insight that leads to specific outcomes. Genetics is part of this equation, too.
Im deeply struggling with the idea of aging. Especially losing my identity as I think about having a child. Its making me depressed!
@@Nursexmariaare you unable be to have a child? Or you regret not having a child?
@@staciacrick3373 i am family planning now. Just turned 30, want to start trying at the end of the year
You're the most refreshing derm on social media. You keep it real. You keep it simple. You keep us learning.
I wanted to get "preventative botox" two years ago at 25 yo. My derm told me no because I don't have lines at rest yet. I'm glad she was honest and didn't mislead me ☺️
I am 47. I started botox a couple years ago because I had a couple very noticeable lines across the bridge of my nose between my brows from frowning. I am generally a nice and happy person but I have a strong "RBF". As a manager and someone who works in retail I was tired of looking angry and unapproachable. I found that the botox helps lift my brows and soften the perma frown I was developing. I use a pretty solid skin care routine and sunscreen everyday. I am noticing less lines and a more positive interactions with people. I got every 4 months and I am loving the results I get. I still look natural and like myself only from 5-10 years ago!
Hi!
This is EXACTLY the reason that I am looking into Botox. I have ended up in screaming matches with people who assumed I was glaring at them. I just have RBF.
Thank you for sharing your story.
@@novasimmons3828 Its worth a try. I ask for a brow lift the bunny lines and crows foot spots. Worst case you dont like it and then you do do it again.
This is such an important conversation! I work at a facial plastic surgery clinic- so I’ve been getting my face frozen for FREE since I was 33 years old… But 5 years later, I’m now coming to appreciate my MOVEMENT coming back again now that those static lines on my forehead are gone. Even with the unlimited resources around me- I let my face “go free” for months at a time. It’s refreshing & even youthful.
Love this
I was already stunned at line number 1 when you said "have you guys realized no one has ever complimented your forehead?" and you just kept going! Amazing ideas and thought process here, this video will be so important to so many girls and women.
Would love a deep dive on nasolabial folds (especially after weight loss, 30s etc) like you did with your jowls videos please! 🙏🏻 need some evidence based derm info
I would like to reduce or eliminate my nasolabial folds, both right and left. Thanks!
Every now and then, I (33) get really in my head about how I'm aging because we've been so used to seeing humans through filters. Videos like this bring me back to Earth. Thank you ❤❤❤ Mad Respect.
100% Thanks for putting this out there. SO glad I was born in 92; I feel bad for teenagers now, cause there's much undue pressure to conform to crazy standards.
For some reason, this video brought tears to my eyes...
I'm 39 and just yesterday I was really researching Botox as I'm finding deep lines in my forehead. The words from Dr. Idriss really hit me. What a beautiful perspective to have on aging gracefully. I wish more women had this perspective on themselves. Dr.Idriss, THANK YOU AND I LOVE YOU! ❤️ 😊 Such a wise and graceful approach. 👏
Thank you for this topic. As a woman in her 50s who is blessed with good genes and has worn sunscreen since her 20s, all my skin care habits can seem futile when I see friends and colleagues my age relying on Botox. I see lines that I wish weren't so noticeable. There is pressure at every age so I appreciate your honesty.
Thank you for saying ALL of this and I mean ALL! Keeping it REAL!
I just watched this video with my 20 year old and she is glowy, dewy, and stunning-- no filler, no botox, thank God, but she needed to hear this. I am so glad we watched this together ❤️ My mini me and me!
Came here for the “should I get Botox at 30, do I need it at all even” and oh my word! 💙 Life lessons 🥰 Thank you!
Amazing message. Cudos to you. I started retin a in my 30s and now in my 60s my skin is smooth and youthful. I only do Botox occasionally 😊
I went to a European salon and started using Retin A at 20. She said it was for breakouts. But I noticed it prevented wrinkles. It didn’t do much for breakouts.
Can you do a video on "baby botox", all the different fillers, laser therapies, etc? Like all the procedures you and other derms do in office, the pros and cons of each, who would benefit the most?
Absolutely love this approach!! Thank you for your honesty
This video should be a MUST watch for young people who are giving in to the pressure of the industry, the cosmetologists who are pushing botox on us as something mandatory and imposing guilt on us for not doing it already!
I was simply hypnotised by watching this video. I enjoyed it a lot! This is the kind of content I want to watch
Im a 39 yo certified follower 😂😘 I love you and how well you explain everything I now understand I don't need botox and just need hydroquinone for my melasma and skin care routine (which I just bought your skin care line) AND SUNSCREEN!!!!! ❤ You are amazing please keep making these videos. I wish I was in NY to go see you.
This is exactly why I love and follow you. Amen sister!!
I am so happy you recorded this video. It is priceless information. Please, ask Sephora to expand your skincare line to Europe. I cannot wait to try it. Best wishes. 🙂
I love the messaging in this video! Kudos to you, Dr. I've grown a mistrust with some of my previous dermatologists and this has given me hope that good ones still exist :)
That's the first time I comment on anything online. Ever... but this is amazing. No one said it better and I just love how honest you are about it. Thank you for this channel! 😍😍
I wish everyone would watch this video. Thank you Shereene!
i love your honesty and how geniune you are Dr. shereene. Your morals are hard to find in this day and age. Youve helped me so much in this short time ive been watching you 🙏🏼❤️ please continue to share this invaluable information!
This was very informative and I’m glad I’m 63. I’ve done Botox twice but I know so many young people in their late 20s that are doing it that really don’t need it. I will forward this to them. Thank you again.
This was spot on and very timely .😊 finding the right provider that is not selling a product and highlighting insecurities is golden . I suggest doing consults first and pick up on the vibe they give !
Thank you for being a human doctor and taking all the aspects into consideration. We need a balance between taking care of our skin and accepting our skin
🙌🙌
Finally a Derm with common sense and good advice! J’adore !! 👌🏻
Best advice you could give this generation. Thank you
Videos like this where she pulls out the science and explains the why behind the what are my favorite, favorite, favorite! I need to understand how ingredients work to make the best choice for my skin. Keep them coming, Dr. Idriss. I love science.
This was an amazing video. It was heartfelt. Yes, there's a couple things I'd like to correct, but at 69 years old now, my face tells a story. I love that you point that out.
I'm 64.. I have pretty good skin. I'm here to say I hear you and understand. Embrace your face. It tells a story only you know and love.
Thank you for your honesty and integrity!
This is so refreshing. Your take on this.
Amazing video! Thank you for speaking about this with such beautiful and refreshing candor.
Also, thank you for the wonderful advice and product recommendations you share. I’m 41 and have not been able to use retinol due to ridiculously sensitive skin (and rosacea), but my skin is tolerating Cocokind surprising well.
You’re the best!❤
Protect this doctor at all costs ❤️
This is the best video you’ve ever made yet! Love your message 🙌💖🔥
I love your moral compass. This was such an important message.❤
This was such a healthy discussion about aging and procedures. Thank you!
This was so helpful Shereene, thank you. I'm 34 & have a frown line between my eyebrows which has been bothering me for a long time. It doesn't always show but it definitely does if I have been concentrating on something. I've been toying with the idea of 'Botox' for around 6-8yrs now & this has helped me to make the decision to try it for prevention. I will look for a trusted & reliable provider in my area (south west UK). Wish me luck! 💛
Its a such a pleasure seeing your videos Dr Idriss
Thank you so muni for such for talking about such important issues, very informative,I wish there were more people like you in the industry ❤
Thank you for your honesty. I hope all the young ones will take your advice and buy that airline ticket!
I love pillow tall Saturdays! ❤️ Thank you!
👏 👏 🎉 From a fellow provider, love you Dr Idriss and your approach to counseling patients! Keep going, girl.
I started rethinking all skin-choices I made for my skin after this video
That was a beautiful and such a wholesome video. 🙏🏼 thank you
Excellent reminder to appreciate what we have!
Thanks for the video Dr Shereene Idriss!! I am definitely feeling the pressure for all these services and its hard to know what to do. It was really interesting hearing your thoughts and recommendations, thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks for sharing! I’m 27 and literally all my friends have been getting Botox for at least the last 2 years, and although I like my face and my lines aren’t very noticeable I was beginning to feel left out almost. But now I feel more confident in my own skin because of this! Thanks again for pushing this message ❤
Bravo Dr. Idriss!
An outstanding video. So important so honest so wise.
THANK YOU❤
Botox is a sore subject for me. Botox was originally used for serious neurological movement disorders, I am very sure that you know this. I received Botox when it was in its experimental stages for Dystonia. Today’s society is so self absorbed, it is alarming and disturbing. I appreciate your candor and honesty, you were completely correct when you said people should not prevent themselves from experiencing life, it is too short live it to the full. It must be absolutely boring and tedious to always think about one’s self and not experience all the beauty and wonders that are all around us. 🌷
I just find it so odd how paralyzing the face for cosmetic reasons is like socially acceptable. I can understand other procedures as I’ve tried those but can’t wrap around Botox
Many prescriptions originate for a specific ailment and end up being used for other conditions. Most notably viagra. It’s completely predictable that Botox would be introduced to the market for something non cosmetic and end up preventing wrinkles.
@@lindseyhoeft5764 just want to point out using viagra which can treat hypertension is not comparable to paralyzing the face for no other reason than you just want too lol
i hope that dr. idriss would do a video about botox for tmj, migraines, things like that. i know she's had a short about masseter botox for bruxism (and mentioned how it can change the appearance of your jawline, since she's primarily a cosmetic dermatologist + that's what people come to her for).
personally i would also love to know about the cosmetic risk (if any) of botox for migraines, if you get them primarily on one side or get them in different areas on each side.
This is very important, thanks for the video. One other thing to realise is that you need to 'learn' your face when you grow up/age. You need to learn and see how you express yourself via your face. Throughout your life you learn how your face communicates with other people (this is also so important for people-facing jobs, for example teachers) - if you never find out, you are losing a part of your development.
And another thing - the Internet ideas of ages are misleading. I am surrounded by women in their 40s and 50s now and most of them naturally look ~10 years younger than what the Internet makes you believe a woman that age looks like.
Not that you need to hear it from me or anyone else, but I commend you for a lot of the wise things you say in this video!
This was so GOOD! Thank you Doctor Idriss!
Good morning I respect your honesty more providers should be like you I want to make an appointment and see you I've been searching for a a doctor that's honest and sincere and I respect that completely thank you have a nice day
Thanks for telling the truth… I wish all dermatologists were like u.
God bless
Great educational video! In my experience, my grandmother and mother instilled a good skincare routine and SPF growing up. Skincare does not need to cost a fortune. I 110% believe Dr. Idriss' stance on knowing your skin and not following fads or what other people do. I feel this is the first step to preventative accelerated aging.
Excellent speech Shreene! Thank you!
Such a wonderful message!
I started watching your videos for two weeks and watched many of your videos about retinol, Serum etc. . This was the video that made me respect and trust your judgement on beauty cosmetics. I'll continue to be a loyal subscriber. Fantastic ❤ by the way I never had a procedure but love skin care. Great video with such honesty and sincerity !!!❤❤
Thank for the truth about these treatments, and how we can enjoy life and appreciate aging is a gift.
Thank you for this open and honest perspective ❤
One of your best videos ever
I’m a 56 year old turning 57 this June. Never had Botox . I only use a few skin care products and also do red light therapy. I have rosacea skin and this has worked for me. So happy! Love your channel. You are very helpful!
Everything you have said is everything I've said to myself. Thank you for vocalizing it.
What a fantastic video. Love this explanation from the science through to the importance of visible emotions!
Thank you so much!!! we all needed this video 💕💕
42-year old here with great skin thanks to the Dr: preach! Avoid stress, drink water, spf, clean your skin, the right actives..... and voilà!
+ genetics, budget, environmental conditions…..
I also do what you did my genetics and body won't give me clear skin.
@@NechelleP clear skin is a matter of food. Avoid sugar, avoid dairy, avoid processed foods, eat clean whole foods and plenty of veggies. Your skin should improve in weeks. Also: no smoking.
@@KKmovesToMars budget? The products I use the most are The Inkey list and The Ordinary + some La Roche - Posay. Nothing decadent.
Thank you for this, I've been going back and forth about Botox at 32 for some frown lines that are starting to stick. Your education helped me understand the entire process so much better! Great message regarding younger people, I applaud you for speaking about this!
I'm happy you talk abt this subject. I have the same vision as you and my colleagues won't stop talking abt preventative botox for their patients. I think people lost the vision of beauty and fear aging so much. Personally, I believe we need to age , it's the process of life. But let's age gracefully ❤
I love this! I have been doing Botox for just over a year, and I didn't know about the diluting of the powder. I have let movement come back between treatments, and I thought that I should be better about going sooner. Now, I realize that I'm very happy with both my provider and my scheduling. Thank you.
Absolutely amazing video. Thanks for talking about this. ❤
The other question is how can most people in their teens or early twenties afford botox? I am 51-a little botox bow and then is great but there is no need to get botox until mid to late 30s.
@martham7198
Exactly!!! We have study income now but you never know becauseus couple have tech jobs. I don't want my skin to get addict to these things and can't afford later.
Amazing. Love this. Thank you for being HONEST and practicing with a MORAL COMPASS. I’m a physician as well and I definitely saw the “dark side” of medicine at my first private practice job. Needless to say I left that job within 3 months because as you stated perfectly, I want to be able to go to sleep at night with a clear conscience.
I also appreciate how you focus the topic on living life - about letting your face tell the stories of the life that you’ve lived. I never thought about it that way. Thanks so much for this! Will book my next travel adventure, stick to my sunscreen, and not worry about Botox! 😃
Wow wow wow I just can say thank you for your honesty it's hard REALLY HARD to find this days a person, a professional with straight ethic and with a moral compass like yours I'm feeling blessed to find you, to learn from you and thank you for that skin care products based on your knowledge that I'm using and loving. I just can say THANK YOU ❤ GOD BLESS YOU Dr. Idriss

Hi Dr Idriss, I will turn 40 this October and my cousin is a 55 yr old plastic surgeon, he has been injecting Botox on himself and his wife for the past 15 years and they both look amazing. I decided to have him treat my forehead and frown lines as after so much sun for so many years an no sunscreen , and being so facial expressive, I literally developed a horrible “wi-fi” symbol on my forehead and the lines were sooo deep since my early 30’s. After following your advice, the “wi-fi” did in fact get a lot better, but I “complemented” it with Botox recently and my face now looks even, smooth and better than even in my teens as I suffered from acne; I continue following my skincare routine tailored for my skin type, thanks to you and I love the way my skin continues to improve each morning. ¡Saludos desde México!
Thank you for explaining so clearly !!
That was really insightful, thank you ❤
This is such an amazing and informative video!!! Thank you so much
Love your channel!!!❤ Have learned so much and my skin has never looked better. Could you please do a video showing a daily routine for periorale dermatitis. My daughter suffers from this. Thanks so much!
