Serious musicians who don’t take themselves seriously
well said...
Very well said, I met Robert Smith once and he was like the bloke who delivers the milk.
what barbara said.
Ler is seriously under rated/ appreciated as a guitarist imo
Why is this on every goddamn Primus reaction?
They are fantastic musicians who don't take themselves too seriously Les Claypool is a legend on the bass
Les Claypool is completely different than the norm, but he is IMO the very best Bassist ever! His skills are unmatched! just weird....I like Primus alot because of Les! My Name is Mud, Mr Krinkle, Southbound Pachydermm, Shake Hands with Beef are all serious Jams...pay attention to the Bass in thier songs as its completely focused on Les and his Bass playing skills!
Cliff
You do not see anyone else work the bass like the damn lead as he does
Entwistle.
Cliff em All
Ive seen them both live, both are insanely innovative and talented, but Les (IMO) gets the edge on Cliff. I have a friend who is President of the KC blues society that has been a playing Bass for 50+ years and has played with some of the blues greats. He had to pick his chin up off the floor when I introduced him to My Name is Mud.
You gotta love Primus. SO Weird, but incredibly talented. Their songs are great!
They should react to My name is mudd and Jerry was a racecar driver. :)
And they still suck lol
"Jerry was a Racecar Driver" & "My name is Mud" are a couple more their better known songs.
Shake hands with beef
Tommy The Cat!
LOL! Wynona is by FAR their best known song! LOL!
@@DonnyHooterHoot No, that'd be the South Park theme....
@@r.f.switch5847 No, Wynona!
Behind the humorous lyrics and Les's country twang, is STUPIDLY CRAZILY INSANE virtuoso instrument playing!
Getting to see Primus live in their heyday was one of the best things about being an 80s teen.
I was rolling watching you guys react to this. Love this song. Primus is equal parts talented and off their damn rockers.
Love how much fun Asia having with this
Less Claypool is a beast! Best bassist, definitely the most original and if you ever get a chance to see him live he’s got so much energy and presence on stage. I’d live to see Asia react to “Tommy the Cat” song of theirs ✌️
Saw them in a small venue recently... amazing.
It's named "Wynona's Big brown Beaver" because she was the one to stick it in the air! I loved this video since back in the day. I saw a show once about making it and the band getting into their makeup/ costumes. It wasn't quick.
Yeah, the behind the scenes video is on youtube.
Primus are freaking incredible. The musicianship I’d off the charts
Les Claypool is up there as one of the most talented bassists ever. Very unique band😉
These guys have a lot of really funny and interesting songs. The truth is, these guys are all incredible musicians! Saw them live in '18, and they sound so much like their recordings, it was fantastic!! 👍
Primus always fun and funny and Great Musicians !!! 👍 🤠
I think missed all that and how fantastic the playing was ??
I've heard Primus described as 3 excellent musicians playing 3 different songs at the same time while a hobo whispers in your ear
PRIMUS is an AMAZING rabbit hole!
Back in the mid 90's, my son had Primus blaring, and I yelled, "turn that crap down" go forward 30 years, and now I'm a big fan, now I see what geniuses they are and how TALENTED they truly are. ...I guess I wasnt ready for them in the 90's. lol. Please do some more Primus.
There's aversion of Primus doing this live on David Letterman. Different costumes. Still rockin' it!
Love watching you guys see and hear this for the first time! Funny as hell!
He need some milk!
That's was the funniest reaction I've ever seen. Great job guys.
They were definitely playing most of the notes as it’s actually played, it’s even funnier when you realize they are wearing hand things too. But as someone who plays, they were definitely playing the song!
Well, more likely miming it accurately. I'm guessing the finger prosthetics would have caused them to hit strings they didn't want to.
@@BKPriceThey played it at 25% speed due to the prosthetics, then sped it up for the video. Its where the slightly jerky movement comes from.
I love watching people react to this song
This is why us Gen Xers don't take ourselves too seriously and get along with everybody. Because we had bands like Primus and The Beastie Boys.
also Primus sucks!
The biggest enemy of Wynona's Big Brown Beaver is a sharp razor 😂
An incredibly unique classic.
Primus’ offerings are the furthest thing from orthodox, and that’s the greatness of their music.
Les clay pool is a beast on bass he also did the south park and robot chicken themes
Didn't ever expect to hear Asia talk about Wynonna's Big Brown Beaver.😅😂
They were definitely playing in those costumes if you look at their hands. They are independent of the hands of the costume and r free behind the costume
I've seen Primus live 3 times! I absolutely love Les Claypool. He is the ultimate weirdo and I freaking love him. Amazing bass player.....the best IMHO! Great and funny reaction y'all. Thank you 🙂
6:30 The cowboy outfits are similar to ones used in old Duracell commercials...Les Claypool is weird...and that's a compliment...
When I saw y'all were reviewing this, I had to watch! I always love watching people react to this one😂😂
Y'all definitely need some more primus!
When I was in college years ago, I listened to "The Residents," album "Duck Stab." Just great atonal fun. The Residents performed in giant eyeball costumes.
Primus wrote the opening theme song for South Park. South Park just had an anniversary concert that included primus and surviving members of Rush. Well worth checking out
They opened for Rush on one tour. Geddy came out and played a song with Primus! It was a bit heavy on bass!!!
i was in germany and they opened up for rush. it was crazy. maybe a thousand people was there. i stood right next to the stage with nobody bumping into me.
I've seen Primus open for Rush on a few tours, but was never lucky enough to see Geddy join them onstage. You are lucky.
Watching Asia react to this, is the hardest I have laughed in a long time!
A fun song with some outstanding musicians performing it.
Asia, your laughter had me laughing too.
Amazing video .the making of video is great too .They recorded the playing parts at half speed and the speeded it up .Looks brilliant.
C’mon man - everybody knows that “beaver” is just another slang term for the
Va-jay-jay! Let’s not beat around the “bush” here! Haha All puns intended 😄
The bassist of Primus has actually great talent- James in Metallica did not pick him for the reason that he '"plays the bass too well" at the audition for the replacement of Cliff Burton, who was the bassist of Metallica.
Band having lots of fun and y'all are wonderful 🤠 Peace and JOY 🍻 CHEERS
Oh yeah! I love me some Primus.
Was just listening to some Cliff Burton from Metallica performing Orion.
What would have been if Cliff lived or if just Les Claypool joined Metallica!!!!
He tried out but was allegedly told he was too good.
A very unique band. Great reactions, I like how genuine you two are. You like it or you don't.
Oh BTW Wyonna's Big Brown Beaver is her VA JJ. Lolll!
Check out "Sgt. Baker" too, and dont forget a second tab to look at the history of their song's subject matter. The backstory for their songs is typically just as badass as their songs.
I had just graduated from high school in 95 when this song came out. And their guitarist used to be a member of the death metal band Possessed.
Les Claypool is an amazing bass player.
Omg 😂 hilarious..... I didn't know how you guys were going to react!
Watch them do My Name is Mud live. You'll wanna dance around with Les. I'm 63 yrs. old and love them. My son-in-law likes them too but, he was a little surprised that I did. Lol.
Les Claypool is a slap bass master. He's funky AF. If you want an unusual cowboy themed double reaction, check out Lee Van Cleef by Primus, and Clint Eastwood by Gorillaz. LVC was the OG hard ass movie cowboy. It's a role that Clint Eastwood stepped into. Both are great tunes with animated videos.
I'm very sad I never ran across these outfits or a cheap knock off of them for Halloween. There is a behind the scenes video of the making of this video. It's pretty cool. PLEASE react to Tommy The Cat live at Bonnaroo.
Primas opened for Rush on their Roll The Bones Tour. Saw them in Pensacola, February 1992
FINALLY somebody enjoys this song/video in there reaction!
*their.....
some of the greatest musicians of all time there!!!
Ah, yeessssss! Love this song !!
LMAO. When this video opens. It looks like a split screen. The corner of the room created an illusion till I saw the chair move in. Now I will watch the rest.
You can find behind the scenes of Primus Wanda's Big Brown Beaver. They show the makeup and costumes that they used during filming
You just transported me back to 1993 with the laughter and whatnot. Only difference is we couldn't pause the video back then unless we caught it on the VCR.
Even better than the video and the song is the MAKING of the video! Crazy how they made it.
Another happy, crazy band that you gotta check out is Toy Dolls - Livin La Vida Loca or Dead Milkmen - Punk Rock Girl
3 world class musicians showing off.
Pretty much.
You all should watch the making of this vid. Great show people !
🤣😂 They had a blast with this one😂 the bassist is siiick😮
Saw them in 1993ish at Lalapalooza 3. Top 3 best live performances I ever saw.
I just found this reaction guys. Awesome, just picture a black guy singing this in a karaoke bar. That was me last year the bar was surprised and happy at the same time. Funny track that sounds great.😅
Love this song! If you guys don't realize the 'glaring' double entendre meaning of 'beaver', then I really don't know what to say but to give a giant hint: beaver is a slang term for a lady's...ya know...kitty. Take a look at the lyrics from that perspective, and you'll get the joke!
Primus (but especially Les Claypool - bassist) is an insanely talented trio. Masters of their instruments. As another had mentioned, serious musicians who don't take themselves too seriously!
This came out right when latex became usable for these types of applications so they made their clothes and masks. I think they were the first ones to experiment with it. There was a TV commercial that had the same effect look. I think for Duracell batteries
That was by far the best reaction I've seen for weeks! Thanks! :D
This was written after a fishing incident on Hat Creek near my house. The boys come fishing up here every summer.
In the mid 90s, there was some creepy duracell commercials with plastic toy people with a battery in their backs, Primus used that type of character in this video that came out around the same time
I like your reviews, but I love it when Asia laughs, you have a great laugh. I think you enjoy what you do, and I wish I enjoyed my job as much as you seem to enjoy yours.
The video clip was shot at 3/4 speed and they were playing along with their music also being played at 3/4 speed so they sped it up to make it look "normal"
To understand how dope Primus actually is you have to see them live. They play every NYE at Fox theater in Oakland which can be seen in my profile pic.
Oh man you guys gotta check out some more Primus! They are hilarious but they ain't no joke! Les Claypool is arguably the most talented bassist alive! Check out Tommy the Cat, Laquerhead, My Name is Mud, Jerry Was a Race Car Driver!
Primus always gets a 10 out of 10 for originality... Saw em in concert years ago and they were awesome.
Ain't no way! You guys are way too wholesome for this!
Greatest video of all time.
There is a beautiful acoustic version of this song floating around that you simply have to check out.
These guys are great, I always really liked 'Hamburger Train' and 'DMV' from the Pork Soda album
I'm not even a huge Primus fan, but I can say without hesitation, this is one of the greatest videos of all time! And I grew up in the MTV era, so I've seen a lot of great ones.
very silly songs but extremely talented musicians
Love this gem! Just sent me back in time to my college days!!
Hey loves.
One my favorite bands. Man was lighting.
❤
"Is he trying to ride the beaver?"
Phrasing!
I was DYING watching Asia's reaction. She abt coughed up a lung there at the end. 😆
"Shake Hands with Beef" and "Lee Van Cleef" are two good songs from Primus. A story I heard (and think is kinda funny) is that if you poke around on Apple Music for genres, Primus has its own listing. They are a very unique band and I've loved listening to them for years.
Yup, I always put down their genre as Primus. Genius and totally unique.
i'm pretty sure when they filmed this they were playing their instruments to the music at half speed so that they'd have a better chance that when sped back up it would look bang on. and it worked really well.
Fun Fact: in order to play their instruments in while wearing those costumes, they had to slow the music down to about 1/4 speed while filming and then speed it back up during production to meet the actual song tempo…
they recorded the video playing the song slower and then sped the tape up to match the timpo of the song to make it look all jumping around like that. there is a making of video out there somewhere that tells you how they did it
"I am weak" .... Y'all 'get it'. But yeh they are killin' it musically.
That's why come to this channel.
There is a video on you tube called "the making of Primus, Winona's big brown beaver" its very interesting to see just how the video was made
Hell ya! Hilarious... i love it n i haven't heard this in years! Funny sh@#.🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍
I've seen Primus live 6 times! Love these guys!
Love this one !!!! Extreme musicianship!
Les Claypool lives in the same county as I do, in Sonoma County California.
So even though it sounds super county, it’s a bunch of west coast California dudes..
Les Claypool even owns a winery and wine tasting bar now, I met him once..
Primus is as west coast as Metalica and Green Day.
Tom Waits also lives in the area lives in the area, I’m a friend of a friend of his son Casey Waits.
Prairie Sun Recording Studio is in Sonoma County, it’s a pretty well known music recording studio, wu-tang, nine inch nails, even Justin Bieber have recorded there, as well as a long list rock and r&b musicians,
It’s a pretty awesome studio, I toured it once.
The bass lines in this song are some of the catchiest bass lines ever written.
That middle 8 chromatic run is ridiculous!
The costumes are on display at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Studios in Hollywood
Too Many Puppies and John The Fisherman are must-hear bangers, but their catchiest song of theirs I've heard is Ballad of Bodacious
"Nice beaver."
"Thank you, I just had it stuffed."
