I did an experiment, where I put 2 of my friends in f1 23 and assetto corsa (with RSS formula hybrid car). They had never raced before (irl nor sim). First person tried f1 23 first, then AC. Second guy tried AC first then f1. (this is with a direct drive wheel and heusinkveld pedals).
BOTH people were instantly much better/faster in assetto corsa and both said it was much easier to drive and they had more control. In f1, if they did the slightest error, they spun/crashed. They had to tip toe and just couldn't get to grips with the car.
THIS is the big reason why most sim-cade games should strive for very realistic handling, with great feedback on the car. Because if you make the handling realistic it will automatically make more sense to people and they will just get it, because it is familier (to real world).
Rest of the game can still be arcade-ish.
And for controller players, you can introduce input smoothing and assists to make it easier.

Big iracing guy here. Got to the top of the oval scene and have played these games for a decade for fun and I’m ok at it. Definitely too much grip. The game shouldn’t be a sim but it should be realistic when we’re talking about speed and time. In this video your quickest time in a sauber is a 10.5. In Q on Saturday pole was a 1:12 flat. Shouldn’t be remotely possible. I’d like to see the esports guys no more than .5 faster than real life speeds. I like the grip on exits of slow to mid speed corners reminds me of iRacing’s model in some ways. What I think is not accurate is the speed you can carry through high speed and how weight roll is basically non existent (example: maggots and beckets you should not be able to flip the car back and forth like you can)as well as the way you can unrealistically abuse kerbs but that’s been a problem since i started playing these games in 2013.
With that being said, the update makes the game playable. I’ll have fun on it. Would never want to compete on here because of all of the exploits but I enjoy watching y’all try to.

Great insight. I think their biggest issue is trying to make a game for casuals on controller and full on esports pros. I’m sure even now for most of their audience it still isn’t enough grip lol. Most probably drive that 3-4 secs a lap slower that u mention.

As a casual gamer I disagree with too much grip and too easy to catch slides, my three friends all came back playing f1 24, they didn't play f1 22 much at all and played a bit of f1 23, the biggest reason was (we play without assists) that it was too easy to spin sometimes, especially f1 22, f1 23 was a bit better but sometimes it could still happen and it was very frustrating driving a 50% race and then spinning at one point once or twice or 3 times. In f1 24 it seems like its even easier to catch spins and that really made them enjoy the game much more.

In a perfect world they should have two modes/handling. One for the casuals that wants to drive in T-Cam and controller and one for sim players that want to use a proper wheel and drive in cockpit.

I totally agree with you Brendon. I want also the car to be 3 4 secs slower its a joke to be 3 sec faster than actually pole time and also catching up the cars in front so easy. I hope to listen you, i am playing only f1 games long time ago and that path they follow with so much grip to the cars we don't agree.

The biggest challenge EA has is to cover all players and the assist system. The different platforms and all the different wheels . And this is the result. And they will make the group that generates the most money is the group they follow. Thank god they did not introduce all the shit the have in COD. You hit a car and confetti comes out or you drive with snoop dogg

  • @christofinb

I believe they do try to make this game a simulation, even though there are assists for the more casual player.
Whether one thinks it is a good simulator is another thing entirely, but I believe the game is targeted to be as realistic as possible for an f1 game as a franchise.
I just question apart from the handling, apart from the handling nearly every part of the game is based on real life, there are no real arcade elements to it except f1 world, which definitely arcade and targeted for entertainment.

  • @ccramit
    @ccramit 18 днів тому +4

You CAN make a game for esports drivers and casuals. That's what assists are for. Now, they made it super easy, and people still drive with assists anyways. They need to go more towards the sim side of handling and just let the casuals keep racing with assists.

They should split the game into two versions, a sim version and a casual like it is now for xbox players with hand control. There are quite small steps that need to be done to make it a good sim. They should actually be able to do everything in the same version, like: do you want to run simulator or casual mode.

    • @andriusa.6444

My exact thought. It’s just that from pricing point of view, you should be able to buy one or the other, or both, but not forced to buy only both. I.e. from my perspective, I only need basic stuff in the game, TT/GP races to get used to the track, setup and so on and then ability to race online, that’s it, cannot be bothered about the rest. And I’m that casual racer who only manages to sit in the rig late in the evening.

@@andriusa.6444 Maybe they should do something like this
      1. Champions Edition = Simulator edition (only allow ranked player online and league racing for simracing people)
      2. Standard Edition = Casual edition (mainstream version directed towards for xbox and playstation gamers)

It's just not fun anymore. I've dropped out of my F124 leagues and now taking up iRacing. So I'll thank the codemasters coders for that. Just a dumpster fire of a game from the career mode to the handling to the stability..... everything. I'm curious as to how people think the grip is too much? The front end is too grippy but the rear end just jumps out at random. High and low speed cornering is just so unbelievablely bad.

I'm not sure if it would only be ~ 5% that would take it if it was a simulator. I'd say it would be way more. A sim can also be played casually, in my opinion (I'm not talking about crashing into others just for fun) And it's not like Sim-racing is some sort of rocket science that requires years of effort to be enjoyable. A sim can also be enjoyed after a hard day of work, if you really like racing. But idk maybe my view here is a bit biased. I'd for sure love it if the F1 games would be a sim.

The problem is ea/codemasters are only interested in esports/content creators opinions and not the majority of players, you guys have a special talent to be able to drive these thing as quick as you do, but the majority can’t, and the majority of people were upbeat with where the game was pre patch and just needed a little tweak to get rid of that over twitchy turn in at high speed, yet you guys all moaned about how bad it was and ea listened to you rather than the masses

Also very good video. Everything was well said. We need everyone to speak out until they fix this handling. Idc what it takes. 5 updates. Get it right!! Also i keep seeing some people say they like the way the handling feels. All i can think to myself is. They never play racing games. Or if they do they are super arcady like Horizon or something. Either that or they are just straight up lying to themselves 😂. Honestly. All i know is they need to fix this game. And if people just give up and stop talking, nothing will ever get fixed. Everyone must let EA and Codemasters know how discontent we are with this. Basically light a fire 🔥 under their asses until they give us a respectable product.

I'm a firm believer that the AI don't play with the same set of rules that we set for ourselves. I feel like they totally run TC. And it's hit or miss whether they have damage on. If I can purposely force one into a perpendicular wall and only I lose a tire being on his outside whilst he makes a clean getaway with not even front wing damage... there's something fishy going on, I'm just sayin😂 And those are just 2 examples. So so so so much wrong with the AI in how they behave

    • @BrendonLeigh

Ive played almost everyday since 2019. I play on controller. 95% of the time im leauge racing. Thats why i buy the game. To play competitivly. I am pretty fast. Top 2-3% in the world. This game i cant get anywhere near that. Like wayyyyy off. Just can't drive the car on a high level with a controller. Beyond that it just doesn't feel good. It feels awful and im not having fun. So lately im not even playing the game. Im not investing any energy into this mess. Ive moved almost exclusively to Forza now. Where i can actually drive with a controller and it feels good. Its a pleasure to drive. Im praying they fix the handling to a level where ut feels like 23. Then i will come back. Its really sad because F1 is by far my favorite game. We'll see...
