I have an EMG ALX on one single humbucker guitar and it was so good that I bought a H2 set. Going to install that H2 set soon and I can't wait to play it. The H2 pickups are always serious contenders to buy again whenever I'm browsing pickups.
DeathPandaDanceParty the H2 set is pretty killer. With the ALX Preamp, it is even better. Being able to turn off the boost great for cleaner stuff. I barely have the gain on the preamp up (around 20-25%) but it's just enough with my setup to boost the gain without being a huge jump.
@@austinfailz Totally! A lot of modern metal has an overdrive in front anyways to tighten up the sound, so it's really handy to have it right there, built in. Especially with so many dB's available.
H2 still stays pretty tight even when you turn the boost off so could even work for a Rhythm and boost for leads set up like John Petrucci has on his Majesty guitars or like you mentioned, turn boost off for cleans.
Add to that, the preamp dip switches to change the EQ and there is a pretty good amount of versatility in the ALX.
I still use the ABQ with Alexi's settings, do you use those settings or have it set up a different way?
@@DeathPandaDanceParty I use his EQ settings, but I have it turned way down. He uses his between half up, and as much as 80% I believe. Way too much for me. He might use less now that he is using the JVM amp. Not certain. I tune my guitars to E and Eb standard, and I think the preamp + H2 set sounds great for 70s and 80s rock/metal.
Installed these puckups with pa2 instead of bone breaker set just for an experiment a couple of days ago and I like the result. The sound in more fatter to my ears. Also it worth to mention that these pickups have low output, so to play heavy music the preamp is required
