Heyy, thanks for the insight! I recently purchased the ALX EMG and I love the sound. However, anyone playing through an audio interface should know having the gain boost will make zero difference. As there is a digital ceiling to interfaces unlike driving a real amp harder on the input gain.
You will get the same effect by buying a H2 EMG and putting any plugin with a 10db gain boost before your amp plugin. It is something I didnt think about prior to purchase and unfortunately made having the gain boost redundent.

There is still that pre pickup eq in that gain boost.
It's not redundant if you play in a band and play live though.
@@yarbles69 still it can be redundant, say if you play through an Axe FX rig... just set your input gain at the beginning of your signal chain to +10dB.
@@julianelison8508 Yes and no. It’s important to mention this pickup is not just a “gain boost”. It’s certain frequencies that get boosted (in Alexis case 1380hz). But sure, you could still get the same results digitally.
Hey man I just bought an alx and I love it it’s so great, but I had an issue, I had my gain at about 3 but 15 minutes within playing it sounded like something in the system went out I still had distortion but the sound was definitely worse, I had this set up by a luthier, so I tried a new battery but it still did not make a difference now when the gain on my amp is about 2 or 3 it almost sounds like a clean sound when it’s on a metal setting
Oh man, I’m sorry to hear that. Idk what the solution would be but if it were me: I’d disconnect and reconnect everything just to make sure that wasn’t the problem. Also, moving the trim pot back and forth a bit as well as the switches might reset the distortion, but I’m just guessing at this point.

What is better is a matter of personal opinion but they both sound different. The Jackson j50bc+Je-1000 has that glassy tone which make solos cut through the mix and the EMG ALX+ABQ has a unique and aggressively low end tone, like the guitar tone in COB’s live album “Stockholm Knockout” at the cost of some of the glassy tone.This is also the case with the mm04. If I had to pick, I’d go with the Jackson j50bc+JE-1000. But that's just me.

Hi there. The guitar stays pretty stable with a strap. I’ve had no issues with neck dive on that guitar.
@@Warhearts thanx, i had a Jackson js something recently and it was terrible. It was hard playing in standing position because if the neck dive. Since I am considering getting one, I don't wanna live again the same trouble :)

The settings that I showed on screen in the other video are pretty much the settings that match the mm04.
What is the difference between this and the F-H2? I have the F-H2 with the boost in my Edwards and I'm trying to discern what the difference is between the two pickups.
