i Too have the 2017 T120 and after having 2 air cooled Bonnies i love it, i dont understand the comment that it takes a lot of strength to change direction ive never had a problem.
A biased T120 owner here. I think you hit all the points. Good job! After 15 months and 20k kilos. I love it more now than when I first got it. The bike does 'pull like an express train'. It is not a racer but just about.....perfect for some of us out here. Nice out of town here in Thailand. You have to get used to getting a lot of attention too. Keep up the good work!
Awesome review ! Loved how thorough you were with this bike. I'm looking forward to purchasing the Bonneville T120 Black! It will be my first bike! I Love the classics!!
I would say it's one of the best standard motorcycles on the market! I just rolled 80K miles or 130K KMs on my 2018 just this past week and I just can't stop riding the thing and it's not doing anything to slow me down (as in it's running spectacularly). Cheers!
I do love it when the manufacturer pulls off a good radiator tuck. One thing I can say about my Vulcan 800 is that the radiator is very out of the way, stuck perfectly between the frame's front tubes.
Great comprehensive honest review of a nice bike. I like the feel and sound of the twin parallel cylinder engine but would sacrifice the power of the 1200 for the lighter weight of the 900. Thanks for sharing the fantastic scenery of Gran Canaria.
I also love lighter and more nimble bikes to be honest. I enjoyed so much KTM Duke 390 or Ducati Scrambler which I also have on my UA-cam channel. Thank you for your comment :) More of Gran Canaria coming soon :)
Nice review! I've owned a T120 for almost two years now and love it. Found your comments about the bike's fit and comfort to be interesting. I'm shorter than you are and weigh 50 kilos less, but it seems the T120 fits both of us nicely. I agree as well about the bike's sound. I removed my T120's catalytic converter and installed an x-pipe. Now, there's a bit too much sound, even with the stock mufflers. The stock sound was just fine. To adjust the chain, just move the rubber mounted muffler aside to get a wrench on the axle nut. No need to remove the muffler. Easy. Fitting an x-pipe does greatly smooth out the throttle, as you pointed out. Don't know why.
I've had mine for 2 years now and cannot fault it, apart from the nasty brown hideously uncomfortable seat which I've had re upholstered for a thicker black one . I switched the silencers for some nifty black Predator Pros - that finished the bike off in terms of sound and looks, plenty of admiring comments wherever I go. Love the bike to bits and at 6'2" its not too dwarfed by me either. I look forward to riding it again once I get my licence back at Christmas. Damn speed cameras. Only moan is I took my bulk of a body builder son pillion - the bike did suffer two up with two heavy buggers on it.
You didn't cover the fuel economy aspect but overall it's a very good in depth review. I liked the surroundings where you shot the video. I am subscribed to your channel for more content. 👍
Thanks! I am happy to add this information. It was 4.5 L / 100 km when I was going smooth and normal and 5.7 L riding with a passanger in a tempo - highways, sometimes 130 - 160 km/h. There are people online who rides it for 4 L / 100 km even.
If you want the engine work to be slightly smoother in the city, try the rain mode. It turns really nice 👍🏻 The BMW is more like brut force, and solid rolling which is nice too but you know you’re riding a bike less heavy but it feels heavier than the T120! If you are a light person, maybe you can feel the weight of the Triumph in turns but as I’m 1,80 cm of height and I weigh about 95 kgs, I don’t have that difficulty. I just counter stearin a little bit or put some body weight over the side I want to turn and the bike obeys perfectly. The thing that can get a little better are the mirrors. A pair of end bar mirrors can calmly fix that (but the performance in city traffic will not be increased by that…you can’t have everything at the same time, so you have to choose which environment is your most frequently used and make that option or not). Thanks for the video. In general I’m concur with all your impressions about the T120. I think that you got it!✌️✌️
Great review Covered all aspects even squealing front break. I just picked up the 2017 T120 graphite. Just amazing comfortable, great sounding beautiful bike.
Just picked up a 2019 120 black. Struggling to find a rear disc lock or alternative that will fit. The disc and sprocket just don’t have large holes and the sheen covers the back side of both so can’t seem to slip anything behind. Any tips?
Love to see a more comprehensive comparison between the T100 and the T120. I’ve ridden the Thruxton R a few times and like the 1200 mill, but I’m starting to think the smaller bike may be the better bike? Maybe a T100R would be the beast?
@JF Motorcycles I see you own an XSR900 and saw your review on it. I also own an XSR900, but I'm thinking of switching to the T120. What do you think? Good move or bad move? One thing I REALLY love about the XSR900 if the torque at low speeds, can the T120 compete?
Great vid, thinking of changing up from street twin to T120, @ 5’11” ST now feels small and underpowered! Know that road well, very nice down into Peurto Rico👌great review!
I'm seriously considering a 2018 T-120 at clearance. Any thing I should be aware of? I love my Rocket Touring and America...but I think I NEED one of these! Replies please?
I can't decide between this and the Scrambler 900 . Maybe I shouldn't do any attempts to road test the bigger one and then regret with the purchase of the 900 ?
Hmm that's a tough decision. If you have any ambitions to enjoy at least some off-road/gravel roads, you should go for Scrambler. If you are planning to stay 100 % time on the road, are taller or sometimes want to have someone with you then you will appreciate Boneville more. If your only concern is the potential lack of power on 900cc engine, there suppose to be soon some way to significantly improve the engine by new camshaft from TEC bikes, check this: ua-cam.com/video/hRk6x_u3mBI/v-deo.html
I really like the looks of this Bonnie its sweet in the full view while the details just add to it. But for me personally, I'd want more performance out of my retro bike. I already have a big thumping torque monster of a bike, if I got a retro it would be 2nd ride, something to hit the back roads and fly on :) I'm leaning more toward likes of a Yamaha XSR900, BMW R NineT or my favorite modern retro the Kawasaki z900RS Great review and vid...
Thank you for the opinion. I honestly can't wait to ride Kawasaki Z900RS - from all the new 2018 models, this one I am most curious about. If you decide for the 2nd bike in the end, let me knou what you got :)
So at 193 cm, you’re still comfortable on the bike for longer rides? Also, do you think its just as good as the Kawasaki Z900RS ? Thanks J.F.! Love your videos!
It has been some time I tested this one, but from what I remember it was not bad at all. In the category of classic motorcycles it was ok. We spend also a weekend riding with my girlfriend and always very comfortable even for her. No problem. The Kawasaki Z900RS is on my list, but it seems it will still take 1-2 months to get the bike for review. Let's see. Thank you so much. I am happy you like it! Stay in touch. :)
Changing direction difficult?? Ive owned my T120 for 18 months and never had a problem, i am 5ft 7ins tall and find the bike easy to ride and i can get both feet on the ground at a standstill, its just a brilliant ride.
Dear JF thank you for vids, Great job. I like how you come to the essentials of an bike. So you think the T120 is a good beginner bike for an middleager who Likes the Look of this bike. I dont like fast bikes, my style is more the Gentlemans Ride! Indeed the T120 isnt a Slow bike at all! Can a normal Rider with average experiences keep Up the pace with other Motorcycles for example riding in the hills like you have in the vids? I live near the Black Forest and the vogues. I‘ll like to ask you because of your Knowledge and experience With the new Bonneville Family. Thx a lot and keep on riding. Peter from Germany. You Need to know that i make my A license when i saw the Brand new Triumph Street Scrambler🏍👍😎
Hi Peter, I am happy you liked it. I beliee T120 can be easily used as the first motorcycle in the scenario you describe. I think you will be definitely able to keep up with other motorcycles in the hills and anywhere else. I remember one guy told me that he went on this Bonneville through Pyrenees with the group of Ducati Monsters, Triumph Street Triples and other fast motorcycles and he was riding all the time first or second haha. I mean, this should not be a problem. Also later on, it can be something done with the steering to make bike more faster in corners. Possibly different shape of handlebar or upgrade of rear suspension. Overally this bike offers almost unlimited options to customize it, which is nice. Hmm Black Forest sounds very nice. I hope you will one day take your bike to Stelvio Pass or just in the north of Italy. There are my favourite places to ride a motorcycle. :)) Btw. did you watch my Triumph Street Scrambler review? Take care :)
JF Motorcycles : Thx a lot! New and cool aspects. Yes i saw your Video of the Scrambler - fantastic - for me the Scrambler is one of the best Retro Bikes i‘ve ever seen and every vid of this bike is amazing. TecBikeParts from the UK (George Milburn) Build in the Moment an Upgrade for the engine, he think, that the cam and the air filter could be modified but keeping up the Euro 4 specifications. Maybe more than 20-30 HP could be the the end of the modifications without changing the Stock exhaust! Thank You very much. You helped me! 👍👍👍🏍🏍🏍
I test rode one last year and I am 5'4" and you will have no problem. I went with the street twin as the 900 cc engine was plenty for me and they handled very similar but the lighter twin was easier to throw around. Went touring on the twin last year across country and no issues for 4500 miles in 2 weeks.
a Harley weighs more and never had problems changing direction so this bike can't be that bad you have to know how to change the direction with the way you use your hands on the steering go right push the bars left and vice verses
Let's make it bigger the bigger the cc of engine the heavier the frame gets for handling of the torque etc. And the bigger disc more junk etc. What happened to 650cc and lower more then enough you can only go so fast if you are doing speed limit. I had a water cooled engine and it burned the shit when coolant leaked out burned for days. It's worse then putting your leg on the exhaust. I would never have a water cooled again. Or a bigger machine not as fun as smaller machine. Also electronics your asking for trouble not as reliable as mechanical system in the long run.
Hi Bert, as for me I also prefered lighter and older bikes. I have in my garage Honda CB400F and some other 70's machines which I love. Also speaking of Triupmh, as I said on my previous video about Street Scrambler vs. Srambler (2006-2015) I personally prefer the air-cooled version which I own and never sell haha. I totally understand your point. Oh btw. I will be recording also reviews and series about old motorcycles (both Japaneese and European bikes from 60s to 90s)... I will start with this on my channel in the end of April. Thanks for comment! :)
Please don't let your 10 year old choose the music for these videos, it's so irritating. No need for music anyway, we want to hear the engine or the person talking.
Probably the best bike review on the T120 on UA-cam
Agree
I've got a t120 2017, wonderful bike, it's a pleasure each ride, each day....
I am happy for you. It is a great bike. Enejoy and ride safe.
JF Motorcycles thank you brother
i Too have the 2017 T120 and after having 2 air cooled Bonnies i love it, i dont understand the comment that it takes a lot of strength to change direction ive never had a problem.
How about T100, for comparison.
Your making some great quality vids, better than some channels with 1000's of subscribers.
This is what happens when you finally start doing something which is real passion for you. Haha. I am glad you like it!

You are so lucky to have ridden on those kind of road... its dope🔥🔥🔥
cool review and video and I loved the location. Thanks!
You're welcome! I am glad you liked it.
Excellent in depth review. Thanks.
Congratulations for the very good job!! Amazing video!!

Hi Lorenzo, you made my day. Thanks!
What gorgeous scenery.

Do MCN a huge favour and become their overseas road tester/reviewer. They could do with another really good member of the team!
I’m stuck between this and the Indian scout. Both are beautiful bikes
Great review thanks. 👍🏽🙏🏽
You're welcome :) There will be more videos coming about XSR 900 soon.
Thanks 👍🏼

There is something special about the fuelling and evenness of the 900 engine. And the T100 is noticeably more nimble
@JF Motorcycles
I see you own an XSR900 and saw your review on it. I also own an XSR900, but I'm thinking of switching to the T120.

What about a scramblerized t120?
@@patricio5717 My question was 2 years ago , now Triumph offer a turn key solution : the SCRAMBLER 1200 since '19
Sports bike= Japanese
Classic or Cruiser= British or American
Bonneville t120 is awesome bike with hardly any negative issues.
Great and clear review! How tall you are?
If any vibrations appearing on the mirrors at high speeds like 140 ,160,
How tall are you? I think you did mention in the video, but I wasn't sure.
