PGR 4 was, and still is, more fun than any of the other racers out there and didn’t fit into quite the same categories of other titles at the time. My mates and I still run 360’s to play this as Microsoft refuse to make this backwards compatible, otherwise we would be playing this on Xbox one / series x and is definitely our go to for mulitplayer!
The Kudos counter and audio cue was what stood out to you the most?! "Perfectly average"?! No mention of it being the first console racing game to have fully modeled interiors of every car with matching speedometer/RPM HUD? How about having all engine audio directly recorded from each actual car engine and exhaust which is audible when switching from in-car view to outside car view?? Not even how every race location was modeled to within 1.5 meter accuracy with dynamic weather that affects handling charactaristics in real time??? As an avid fan of the racing genre and of this series in particular: I'm mildly triggered lol.
I'm honestly not much of a racing fan or car person IRL. I love arcade racers and driving as a game mechanic. While it's clearly very well made with lots of great detail, PGR4 feels pretty average to me in terms of engagement and moment-to-moment gameplay.
@@AtomicPurple Ok, knowing that you arent a car person nor a racing genre purist makes much more sense as far as the video goes. Many at the time either saw It as a racer that was not quite simulation enough or arcade enough which eventually doomed it to near-obscurity for it being a hybrid of the two. Microsoft already had the Forza series to push so there was no need to have another sim-like franchise competing with their first-party offering, and yet PGR4's gameplay and attention to detail felt more at home in a sim than its presentation would lead one to believe. On a related note; have you ever played 007 Blood Stone? It was made by the same dev team and I believe was the last title released by them prior to shutting down. It is said to have really great driving segments and is generally considered to be a hidden gem of its generation.
@@AtomicPurple I guess that explains why some old game look better on YT than in reality. Tho in terms of other things like games running in 1080p or higher, movies, etc, this is absolutely not the case (especially not if they get hit with that AVC compression).
PGR is so good. Any of them. Such a missed series to those who played them.

I bought this game a few days ago and it's been pretty fun, I'm definitely not good at it but it's fun.

I've not played Blood Stone, but I've heard it's good.
max payne and max payne 2 are some of my fav games.. there were weapons mods you could load and made max have nothing but mele weapons too
fear and add ons were an addiction to me.. loved the half life style engine

Video compression artifacts smooth out things like aliasing, banding and dithering, which makes the image look more photorealistic at a glance.
