  • The 50 hour service comes around all to often if you ride as much as I do, and personally my service interval is usually much longer, until now. Let me show you how easy it is to do this necessary maintenance on your rear shock.

    For get the Air can better on, put a piece of old tube on the table. place the bearings on the tube and press the can with your body weight down, works really easy.

    Thanks for the video. Do you happen to know how much more work would be involved in replacing the lower shaft while doing this. I got a little scratch from a crash that I filled and sanded smooth but I figure I might as well replace it too if I have it all apart.

      Afaik it's fairly difficult due to the dampener being contained within the stanchion. There are a ton of small parts and possibly some specialty tools necessary.
      What I've done in the past to my front fork stanchions, like you, is filed off any burs and carefully got it as smooth as possible. Then I thinly layered clear enamel nail polish over the top to bring the height up level with the sides. And re-sanded it with I think 800 then 1500 or 2000 grit. It's been almost 2 years and it's still holding up great. It's all in the prep work though so take your time if you go this route. That's my 2 cents lol. Thanks for watching the video!

      @@descentmtb7271 thanks for your response. Yeah I did exactly what your process was. I even went over the final piece with Meguiars Scratch x and then car wax. It seems fine so I guess I’ll just continue riding it as it is and do the basic maintenance. Last thing I want to do is buy more specialty bike tools!

    As another commenter said though - clean the externals before you start to avoid contamination!
    Otherwise, thanks mate - definitely makes life easier when you have a full walk through for your exact shock :)

      I have had the super delux on my evil wreckoning and my guerilla gravity megatrail. I rode the evil hard for a long time and my megatrail was a demo bike at my friends bike shop, getting loaned put to God know who, for a year and a half. They both held up and performed extremely well. That being said, I would much rather have a fox X2, but the super delux is a great shock. It just lacks some adjustment compared to the fox high end shocks.

    • @marklane8248

      @@Jordan-W how did the Super Delux work out ?

    • @Jordan-W
      @Jordan-W 4 роки тому +1

      @@marklane8248 Quite well, I never had an issue with either one and was quite happy with their performance. The only downside, as compared to othe brands top line shocks, is the lack of independant high and low speed compression and rebound adjustments. But you really only get that on the fox X2 or a push 11-6 both of which cost a good bit more money.

    • @descentmtb7271
      @descentmtb7271  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Mark, you want to keep unnecessary dirt and grease from getting into the internals of the shock. It's most likely why your shock is not performing well and you're watching this video.

    • @Jordan-W
      @Jordan-W 4 роки тому +1

      I am doubling up your comments as well... but you will never see a professional mechanic working on any internal component without nitrile gloves, it is just a bad idea.
