Pretty sure its normal although I've never taken my oil cap off to listen. However, if you had a "blowby" issue, you would see smoke coming out of the crankcase when you remove the oil cap
Once the motor is warmer it is visible, thanks for commenting, It was bought used and now finding a couple other small issues indicating that it was driven quite hard before my ownership. I don't really want to go much deeper though so as of now It is what it is!
I heard the same noise for a moment, got kinda worried. I think it might be because I drive car for short trips and I need to change the oil sooner. Cars runs fine, no excessive oil burning, might need to change the plugs this time around as well. Did the fuel pressure sensor.
Possibly the pcv. If your car is catless you will see white smoke start to come out after it warms up. Call the dealer and tell them you need the updated " crankcase vent oil separator"
Curious if you actually had issues(check engine light on) and if you took it to shop and what they said. My 2016 was doing the same thing so I freaked out stopped using it for like 6 months. Replaced the mass airflow sensor, did a block test to see if the engine block was cracked, and all the internal sensors showed normal readings and no loss in fuel economy, and it was still the same. Finally I took it to a shop and they told me it was normal since the engine is a turbo. I’ve put about 30k miles on it since with no issues. Worst case scenario you’re under 50k and should still be under engine warranty?
i have this issue. mine is at 77k. no engine light, and i have ~23mpgs if i drive to work and back regularly. i noticed this issue at about 50k however i never really paid attention prior so it may have already been present
So I had the same concerns so I called my local dealer and said it is totally normal for these engines. When you change your oil does it smell a little like gas or weird? Also do have get a lot of carbon or black stuff on your exhaust tips?
Actually, the oil smelling like gas is what prompted me to just do a quick check around the motor, I also do have black soot in the exhaust tips although the scanner I use claims the motor is not running ultra rich. Thanks for the comment.
@@jcsengines446 yeah no problem, mine is not running rich either. Another thing you can check is your crankcase vent. If there is pressure coming out of the oil pac then there should be pressure coming out of the crankcase vent.
mine makes this noise but smoke comes out as well lolol. I assume that's not great. I was getting exhaust smoke on and off for a few years and now it's pretty constant. Oil is going down. No coolant loss. I am assuming it could be the pcv is bad, maybe worn piston rings, or something causing the air to fuel ratio to be off. I have 117k miles on my 2015
@@Avrilhandler You've probably saw the other comments but I sold the car after some other issues came up. I wish mine waited until 117,000 mi to start going wrong
That really sucks, I sold the vehicle back to the dealership where I bought it because it was driving me crazy, and I had some other significant issues come up with the 2.3 ecoboost
NO, THAT IS NOT A NORMAL ENGINE TICKING NOISE. That sounds like your oil is extremely low or you have little to none. Go get that checked out as soon as possible! Hope your warranty is still good.
Thanks for the comment, just had the engine oil changed (full synthetic) about 40 miles before I took the video, with the dipstick showing oil level full, I am at a loss to figure out what is going on. I definitely don't think it is right, but just not sure where to go from here.
@@jcsengines446 have the head retorqued on. It’s my experience that these motors all overpressure the head and can push the head off the block. The truth is they’re all running too much boost
This sounds like a problem with the crankcase breather. When you take that oil cap of there should be suction not blow by. This is indication of issues with the crankcase breather assembly the whole unit itself or could be just the hose. It is underneath the manifold. Remove the manifold for access to the part. Not really too difficult. Does take a little time and patience. Hope this helps.
I’m having the same issue with my 2020 HPP. What was the cause of the issue? I replaced the vacuum pumps, spark plugs, oil, and added fuel additives. And the noise is still there. Lmk.
So I was told by a Ford mechanic that this amount of blowby and clatter was considered "normal" for the Ecoboost motors. Although other models on the lot did not have this issue. Another thing not addressed in the video was oil consumption issues which did affect this car. After running through 2 sets of spark plugs and 3 new coils a few small oil leaks developed around the engine seals so I sold the car when the market peaked.
I appreciate the response. Thank you so much! I was wondering if it was something valve related but I guess I was wrong. I plan on keeping my car so hopefully it doesn’t blow up. 😬
From what i have been told it is somewhat normal on eco-boost engines because of the turbo pressures. the catch can fills up at a steady rate but keeping an eye on anything else that may develop.
@@Anthony-pz7mz Unfortunately it started burning oil (2 quarts per 1000mi) so I no longer own the vehicle, not sure if the oil burning and blowby were strongly related since I did not want to dump a ton of money into professional diagnostics.

If you have a blowby how much would it cost to fix the issue. It don’t matter what the problem is but what would be the price range depending?

Just one sensor ? You know there are 2 plus the purge valve
