I saw them with my first wife, now in heaven, on this tour. Saw them at the elephant bar in Covina California. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life, even to this day. Incredible sound. Incredibly tight and punchy. So so good.
i attended the sound check for this gig and told kevin i would like to invite pete bardens but it's sold out, kevin said talk to my manager an got myself, pete and his son ben on the guest list. what a great guy!
it's so trippy to see sheryl crow playing with toy matinee...nowadays the most obscure of the obscure prog bands anyone who digs kevin gilbert knows that sheryl crow would probably be a housewife somewhere if it weren't for him but it's weird to actually witness it
Holy Sh*t. That's great, starting to like it better than the album cut, which I've always loved. So great to have these vids online! (ps, Sheryl Crow, really, could be just anyone)
its really interesting watching this, because the video shows that the bass problems continue. :) Great work putting this together. Do you have the entire concert?
Kevin Gilbert was personally responsible for Sheryl Crow's initial success. She responded to an ad for a keyboard player in TM and the rest is history. She ended up screwing him over deserved or not......
The drummer must have had a click. Even back then every big time band had in-ear inserts that are hard to see. My cousin played guitar in the Steve Miller band and told me about it.
Kevin Gilbert was such a thoughtful songwriter. His lyrics and music were an amazing contribution to the genre. So sad when he passed

Marc Bonilla is such a beyond amazing guitarist and sings great background vocals too !!!!!!!!
This went over so many heads. The music was ahead of its time, lyrically rich--replete with quotes from Robin [Batman], "holy rotting donkey carcass."
My fav band. If this song could seamlessly fit into any one of the Beatles albums, It would have been one of the top hits.

I love Kevin Gilbert
Love this band “Toy Matinee” - they are/were awesome. Beautiful and original!

manifestgtr I didn't know any of that, but oddly enough I never cared for crowe...kinda like a female kid rock to me...annoying tone less voice.
Huh.
And after he wrote her entire Album she kicked Kevin to the curb !!!!!!!!
And that's her face on the album cover, too, eh?

Excellent editing job, Nando. Great song From a great band. RIP, Kevin.
Dang all your material is just amazing.
6:33 I Am The Walrus. "Turn me on dead man." That was supposed to be a clue in the Paul Is Dead hoax.
KG reminds me of Zappa when he's talking to the audience at 5:18
Tru dat.
Thanks for this great insight. Love it.
Kevin gilbert rocked!
For the doubters, 6:41, that's definitely Sheryl Crow.
Thought so.
Oh Miss Broadway is singing on this one too. NICE.
