This is not a spoiler, as the film never acknowledged it, so people that didn’t watch interviews and all of that of James Gunn don’t know it, and most people that casually watch the MCU still think the new Groot is the same one from this film, but it isn’t so don’t get confused, this Groot died, the one that is growing is his son. That's why Rocket was crying, he knew he would die. If he knew he could grow it back, he wouldn't have cried. Also, why in the next films they have more of a father/son relationship.
oh my goodness... this makes me really sad. I was over here thinking groot was growing back into himself again. but now my heart hurts and is so full at the same time because Rocket is going to care for Groot's son 💚
The end scene when Peter and guardians are surrounded by the purple cloud from the power infinity stone and peter reaching out for his moms hand but it is gamoras hand, and they all hold onto eachother to help peter.... That is by far my favorite scene in the entire mcu. Even before my dad had passed in 2020 it was my fav but gave a whole new meaning as he had colon cancer and was starving to death in hospice. He was quickly losing his functions. He had lost his eye sight and asked me to take his hand as i stood by his bed. Now that scene hits different.
oh wow.. I have been fortunate not have lost anyone yet and this scene hit me and was one of my favorites, too! but I can't even imagine seeing it through your eyes. such a deep and beautiful scene. I think it's even deeper knowing that Peter as a boy refused to take his mom's hand because it was too hard, but with this second chance he didn't hesitate to grab her hand this time. So beautiful in so many ways. I'm also very sorry for your loss. But I love that you look on this scene so emotionally and find it as a way to spend time remembering someone you love 💚
Quill's ship, The Milano, was named for actress Alyssa Milano who would have been starring as the teenage daughter on the sitcom "Who's The Boss?" the year he was taken from Earth.
The guardians are my favorite, also you asked a lot of questions, specifically about Peter's backstory during this and I think you will eventually get answers to everything you asked. :)
So excited to see you get to this one. Its funny, the other day I had to so bite my tongue or my fingers so I didn’t type out a spoiler, because how you said you’ve got Marvel to balance out all the level of emotional movies and games you’ve been doing lately, internally my brain was going, “well, you haven’t gotten to the beginning of Guardians yet!” It’s a comedy, but man does it hit you hard in the first five minutes.
THE MATRIX is a great movie to react to. Plus, you need to see it just to understand all the references. So . . . you have a reaction channel. Git er done!
The dog in a space suit is a reference to Laika the real world dog who was sent into space by the Soviets in their USSR space program. Sadly in real life said dog died but presumably in the MCU universe instead it at some point got taken by the collector or some alien who then sold it to the collector.
You should not have said anything. Now you HAVE to watch the matrix. It is my 2nd fav movie of all time. It will blow your mind. And is especially relevant to todays world in 2024.
@@kaliwali Yep, add it to your list. The Matrix (certainly the first one) is a must-see. Once a person has seen it for themselves, they can then decide for themselves how much more Matrix they would like to watch.

I don't think Peter Quill is selfish at all. He is even willing to give up his life to save his friends. He is more of a compartmenlized character with humor and great love for music. He was raised by scavengers so it was kind of a tough love but in a sense for payment and outlaw life. He was a lonely outlaw who found friendship and the sense of doing the right thing at the end. Selfishness is the least characteristic of his character from where I can see. His ego is very strong but this is part of something else that will come and explain more of that. It's awesome!
@@kaliwali yeah, ego and selfishness can actually hold hands together sometimes but not as a exclusive rule though. Some people can have both very mixed up but others like Tony Stark and Peter Quill are an exception. Ego can make things hard if not managed very well. The next Guardian movies have a LOT of character development and you'll love it so much I just know already haha
Howard the Duck was a Marvel movie from 1986. It’s one of those “so bad it’s good, but also really really bad” movies and does come from a Marvel comic. If you want to get the full experience, you need to go outside the core MCU films. You can continue until Endgame, but then you’ll really want to watch Blade, the X-men series including Deadpool, the Daredevil Netflix series, the Fantastic Four, the Tobey Macguire Spider-Man trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man movies, and the Venom movies, all as close to release order as possible.
Idk if this is a hot take or not, but GOTG are easily my favorites out of all of the MCU films. They have SO much heart and I am arguably most attached to this group of characters. Even more than the Avengers themselves. Every time they’re on-screen, my emotions are through the roof. I love them all.
You must watch The Matrix immediately! 😮 It's mind binding and fantastic. It was my favorite movie of all time. Until Guardians was released - now Guardians is my favorite! 😊
17:31 The guy following Yondu is played by James Gunn's brother, Sean. He also does the motion capture for Rocket (while Bradley Cooper provides the voice.) So, there's some behind-the-scenes pictures of Sean in a mo-cap suit, getting pat on the head by Drax 😅
Oh wow Kali you’re in for a treat! 2014 was one of the banner years for the MCU with the releases of both Captain America: Winter Soldier in April and Guardians Of The Galaxy in July. All i can say is wait until you finish watching the next two-three movies and dive into Phase Three because honestly most of the best movies of the MCU in my opinion. Everything from Civil War, Doctor Strange, GOTG 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers Infinity War, Ant Man And The Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame, and Spider-Man Far From Home are for the most part pretty solid movies of the franchise. Have fun, enjoy, and have a Happy New Year Kali!
Nathan Fillion, who played Malcolm Reynolds in Firefly, is in a lot of James Gunn's movies. He has a cameo in all of the Gaurdians of the Galaxy. His role in this is voice only and easy to miss if you don't know which.
Fantastic reaction, Kali, as always! I say this every time, but you have such an amazing combination of cleverness, humor, and overarching compassion. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with us! 😊
The good feeling, good vibes interrupted by a jab to the heart is a mainstay of this series. Have tissues on hand when you get to the third. That one broke me.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Trilogy is the best of them. What cements that opinion for me is the third movie which is one of the best movies I have seen in any genre.
You have great timing. I just spent a few days going through your other Marvel reactions and finished them just in time for this one. Can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the films! Also, since you haven't seen The Matrix, I hope it's on your list. I think you'd enjoy that one. If you like it, you can watch the other films but it also works well as a standalone film.
I watched guardians of the galaxys on d v d and ever since I watched it on d v d I was like it's one of my favorite movies ever And even now, many years later, after it came out, it is still one of my favorite movies.
In case you didn’t notice: the guy Ronan killed at sanctuary was The Other who was Loki’s contact throughout The Avengers. In that movie’s post credit scene we saw him by Thanos’ side as he rose from his throne and smile with the right side of his face facing the camera
What I just love so much about the Guardians is that each of them actually suffered in their past, more than the big other Marvel heroes like Cap and Tony did for example. I mean, think about what Rocket told they did to him, in contrast to the Cap, who lost a girl he knew for a few months, and Tony, rich boy with daddy issues.
Howard the Duck is another comic series… it also has a movie from the 80s. For myself, I actually really like it, but it’s disliked by many. I think it was just a little before its time and probably would do a lot better if it was released today. I recommend watching it, it also stars Lea Thompson who is most well known for being Marty’s mom in Back to the Future.

"Groot" is like a shorthand for "growing roots" which is what he is made of. So when he says "I am Groot" he is telling people what kind of being or species he is. Groot actually has a non-verbal language, which is what Rocket understands, but the rest do not (yet). Thanos calls his followers and the children he abducts his "children", like a cult leader might. He doesn't have any biological offspring. It's not directly explained in the film, but the vat that Drax is tossed into is mined "goo" from the Celestial's head. It makes him more indestructible. At the end it is revealed Peter also has a special heritage, and both Gamora and Rocket have been heavily modified, so the group as a whole is able to withstand an Infinity Stone long enough to use it. The Guardians films are all about found family, and all require a good supply of tissues.

Fun Fact: The big blue alien that got Groot's fingers shoved up his nose is voice by actor Nathan Fillion. He's really good friends with James Gunn and Gunn tries to cast Fillion in some role in every movie he directs. Nathan Fillion is in Saving Private Ryan. He was the other James Ryan from Minnesota whose brothers were still in grammar school.

MCU be bringing us the best Star Wars movie in decades that isn't Star Wars.
Except Serenity, which is up there too.
The year before TFA too

If she thinks this movie is sad, then she's in for a hell of a rude awakening with GOTG vol. 3...
She’d probably still be sad about someone else from this series before then
Guardians of the Galaxy are the best of the MCU.
You might speed run the game. Says is about 17½ hours in length.
Idk why but im not as big of a fan of guardians movies as everyone else, i guess im just not a huge fan of movies that take place away from earth, because pretty much all my favourite franchises are on earth, but this just proves that marvel can be for everyone, captain america satisfied those that like action spy movies, thor takes the mythological movie fans, etc etc.
We knows when thanos shows him fully , there is only pain 😢 ,not a spoiler but a hint( Avengers infinity war ).
