I grew up Roman Catholic, read the bible growing up many times in school etc. I lost my faith in highschool, in my 30's and whenever I watch this movie it always brings that faith i guess back and makes me question myself and everything. I don't know why you drifted from your faith and it's none of my business. What I can tell you is that my children and I have been in the presence of God and our Savior. Miracles do happen and I know God is real. I have, through my own experiences, found much darkness within the foundations of Catholicism that are still found today. I do not believe its faithful followers are corrupted, but I question its leaders on several levels. None the less, I hope and pray you find your way back to God in your own time and way. I'll just leave that thought with you and leave the rest to the Father. God bless.

I don’t really comment a lot on UA-camrs videos, but your reactions always are the ones that I find entertaining even if you do get emotional. As a blind person, I feel like movies such as the green Mile can remind us that we need to be thankful for the life that we have and the things we get presented with. I honestly find certain movies to be entertaining and educational, even if they contain mild violence or adult language. i’m grateful that 20 years ago I was able to come into this country from south of the border and even though I didn’t have anything to my name, here I am 20 years later a high school graduate and a fan of reaction videos like yours. @@kaliwaliI also believe that John Coffey is supposed to be either a christ-like figure or the actual second coming!
Several clues beside the fact that his initials are JC.
He has premonitions and can see things that will happen!
      He's a gentle soul.
He is able to heal the sick, raise the Dead!
The only other person, if you go by biblical teachings and Catholic teachings, who calls God "God the Father" is Jesus Christ, being the son of God!! John Coffey says this when he's speaking to Paul when Paul asked him what does he say to God on Judgment Day when God asks him why he killed one of his true miracles!
When John Coffey was watching the "flicker show", there is one shot showing the light of the projector coming from behind John's head making it look like a Halo!!
Any depictions of Jesus Christ or Mary in paintings, pictures or drawings always show them with a Halo 😇 around their heads!!
A regular Angel would NOT have the authority to take life!
AS John Coffey said he punished BOTH those bad men, one of whom was killed!!
This kind of action can only be done by God or Jesus!!
The gift or infection of life is something else that is God-given and why Paul is able to live to The ripe old age that he becomes!!
I may have missed other clues but those are the ones that I've caught that convinced me that John Coffey is definitely a parallel character to Jesus Christ himself!!
      Great reaction!!!

That mouse has lived more than 8x its natural lifespan which I believe is supposed to leave us wondering how long Paul may have to wait for death, perhaps a few centuries since the end also makes it appear possible Mr Jingles took his last breath as he falls asleep at the end of the movie. King is noted for horror, and in this case it's the horror of knowing you will outlive everyone you know and love is the fear. Paul is now an empty shell who wishes for death to come find him and end his suffrage and penance he feels for killing John.

First time on the channel. What a lovely heartfelt reaction and excellent commentary! I never heard anyone suggest that John had to go into the dark to find and heal Melinda. Brilliant!! Subscribed.
Watching The Green Mile definitely takes a toll emotionally. It is an amazing story by an amazing storyteller and beautifully acted throughout, but a heartbreaking film. This film really sheds a light on true goodness, true evil, and the heart-wrenching dilemma faced by men who know in their hearts that someone is innocent, but have no way to prove it. Add to that the suffering that John Coffey had to endure every day because of all the ugliness in the world.
“I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. I'm tired of never having me a buddy to be with, to tell me where we's going to or coming from, or why. Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world every day. There's too much of it - it's like pieces of glass in my head, all the time. Can you understand?” John was clearly too good for this world!
Another top quality film you should react to is "Arrival" (2016 - Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Forest Whitaker). Amy Adams gives an Oscar-worthy performance. It is an AMAZING film (wonderful acting and story-telling 📽) and is in my Top Five of All Time list.

Hey Kali, the journey of John Coffey is a gift and a curse to him. --------- He was just tired of absorbing all the suffering and hate in the world and wanted to end his time on this earth. He passed on a bit of himself to Tom Hanks, so we can see what JC faces. ----------- Such an amazing movie. Such deep concepts, ideas, moral conundrums. Some of the best writing expressed in Literature. Stephen King is a master level storyteller.

    • @joehoy9242
      @joehoy9242 Місяць тому +3

I've commented along these lines before, but a through-line from the book to the movie is that both Percy and Wild Bill are fundamentally broken; dyed-in-the-wool sociopaths. The difference is that Wild Bill grew up in poverty whereas Percy was the scion of a relatively wealthy, well-connected family. Wild Bill ends up facing execution for his depraved acts, but Percy is effectively untouchable despite committing acts that are equally depraved. John's last significant act is finding a way to have these poisonous men cancel one another out in the only way he can, given his circumstances. Had John not intervened, as you say, Percy would have continued to find ways to torture those over whom he had power - and it's unlikely anyone could have stopped him.

    Hi Kali,
A word how that electric chair works regarding the sponge:
Water is highly conductive, so if you soake it in water and place it (like in the movie) on a shaved space and press down on it, the electricity will go through the sponge and everything wett under it. So yes then your brain gets fried really fast. However if you do not soake the sponge, the electricity does not have anywhere to go but your full body, and i can tell you that hurts really bad. Ive got electrocuted once due to faulty wires in the house. I was literally thrown a few meters back. When i woke up i heard my phone go off. It was my mam and i told her to call an ambulance. But later that day i could go home. In our homes in The Netherlands it is 220 to 230 volts.
Imagine 2500 volts hitting you, it was like that in those times. So in those times NO soaked sponge, would mean unimaginable pain. I guess in the movie you played that catching on fire is true. And more cruell things happen to the body wich i will not tell here.😔

One of the things I've really loved about your reactions lately is that you're going into these movies totally blind. As in like not even reading the little summaries that streaming services put up, and not watching trailers or looking up actor lists. Since even the most basic synopsis of this movie spoils that there's something magical about John. And getting to see you experience all of that in the moment with no expectations about what's going to happen is very cool
Percy joins Umbridge from HP, and Heimdall from GoW as some of my most deeply hated characters in media 🤣 And that's not a bad thing either. It just speaks to how well written and acted a character is to instill such strong emotions. It's all part of the experience
It's really cool to see so many of the same actors in this era flock around with Tom Hanks in these movies! Lt. Dan, and the sniper from Saving Private Ryan, among others

    • @kaliwali
      @kaliwali  Місяць тому +7

I have to say with this one- going in completely blind was a magical experience, literally lol. I was NOT expecting any sort of miracles/magic/heavenly themes in this at all. all I knew was that there was an electric chair bc RDR2 fans told me lol. but it was so much more than that... I think from now on i'll keep doing it this way!
and I 10000% agree that Percy is up there with Heimdall level hatred lol. what an incredible actor to get such strong and hateful feelings out of me! 😮‍💨😭 honestly, every actor in this film had me feeling things just with their silent reactions and thoughtful scripts. an intense movie for sure... but one that is worth seeing at least once in your lifetime ✨

I saw the film around 16 years ago. It was about a little girl who found the guy John C where he lived in the woods. They became friends. But one day she was on her way to see him and he thought he would see her as she would often visit him and he thought she would that day. He had healing powers and I think that's what the girl liked about him, he healed sick animals. But then when she didn't visit him he was worried and he went to see if he could find her and to his horror he found her dead. He tried to heal her but for some reason he couldn't. He was so upset and he picked her up to take her to her parents he was in tears that he was unable to save her. But they thought he'd killed her. He couldnt reason with them or prove his innocence he had some kind of learning difficulty or communication barrier and that part of the world was very racist towards black folks at that time in the US in the 1930s. So he was wrongly executed. This is why I'm against the death penalty.

Hey Kali - The Green Mile (imo of course) is one of the best films ever made. I stopped counting years ago how many times I've seen this, or watched others watch it. I want to tell you that your reaction and comments after your watch are some of the most genuine and meaningful/inciteful feelings and words I've ever heard related to this movie. Thank you for your depth, your grace, your faith, and your willingness to be so vulnerable on screen. You make a difference by sharing those parts of you that make you so relatable. Appreciate you. And Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! Peace, my friend! xo 🤗🎅🎄💖❄

Hi, first time visitor, really enjoyed your _Forrest Gump_ reaction, although I confess, I kind of jumped to the end, hehehe I still very much enjoyed and you had me tearing up with you. Can't wait to watch you go through this one as it's is one of the most emotional films that has ever been created, imho. You have a new sub.
And yes Tom Hanks doesn't miss, you need to see him in his _Mr Rogers_ role for Christmas, and - if you ever want to see a very dark version of him - Road To Perdition would be a great reaction watch.
Just a couple of suggestions, and I wish you and yours the happiest of holidays.

48:05 I realized a special reason why “he couldn’t take anymore after that”, when John asked to have his cover off his face, you could see Tom Hanks truly crushed and forever changed, that he had to watch John’s face, uncovered.. in that final moment

Fun fact somewhat relevant: louisiana has different laws than every other state. We have the Napoleanic law instead of the usual English common law.
This means judges have more control over the application of sentencing than others, since they don't necessarily have to follow legal precedent. Our laws give a range of penalty that give the judge a means of selection based on fault, intention, intoxication, premeditation, etc.

Hello Kali!😊 Yes, the rehearsals were part of the normal operation for death row to make sure things went smoothly for the actual execution. They used to allow anyone to witness the execution, but then most places changed it to the victims of the family and family of the accused. There was a big scandal back in the day of the electric chair. The guy that repaired the chairs in most prisons in the United States did not believe the Holocaust had happened. After it became known, he was let go. You are correct, the J.C. is not a coincidence. Stephen King also penned "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994) which was also directed by the same director here Frank Darabont (The Walking Dead). It is another very strong film, but this is my favorite of the two films. Great emotional reactions to this difficult watch, Kali!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A story of good intentions not always yielding the most favorable outcome but still choosing to have faith and do good. A story of faith & the fragility of humanity. A story of good vs evil. A story of a man performing miracles of healing with the initials of JC, told by a man named Paul. The way Stephen King writes has been my obsession for many years. And the way Frank Darabont (Director) adapts it for cinema is nothing short of genius complementing genius. The trifecta of their cinematic ventures together; The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption & The Mist are all equally worthy of your reactions and point of view as your ability to connect with the story is so palpable. Both of the others mentioned are also equallly as renowned & loved. Keep it up boo cakes🫶

Hey Kali, you were so spot on with your assessment of Percy. He's a coward praying on the weak and less fortunate. He starts with John Coffey when he comes in. Then Mr. Jingles, and Mr. Delacroix and not wet the sponge. ---------- Just like a bully, he thought it would be fun to see others suffer. Many serial killers start off abusing animals. However Percy is no serial killer, those folks force the disadvantage to invoke their predilections, Percy needs folks to be weak to take advantage of them.
