      FloridaBoy Survival I think you should add a magazine recovery dump pouch in lieu of the tiny Alice pouch! So many magazines would be hard to keep track of once spent! (From a current marine POV) 👍 I like the set up though

      @@imhereoften9452 We are civilian insurgent types. 1: our mags are so old and poorly maintained it's doubtful they'll be worth saving.2: there's no H.Q. weenie beanie threatening us with article 15 for lost equipment. I ain't signed for jack s@#$t. That said, the ALICE gear should always include suspenders and a butt pack. Also, in any realistic survival scenario, water is more important than ammo. So, 2 canteens, MINIMUM. Start with 2×1 qt. Butt pack. 2 × 30 round mag pouches. I currently run an LC2 belt, Condor H suspenders, 2×1qt MOLLE canteen pouches, a Spec Ops butt pack, and 2× 30 round mag pouches. I have an FLC, but it's set up for Apocalypse Yesterday. LOL. MOLLE is OK for a rifle squad, in a vehicle, but for a survival type situation, the belt and harness is best. Low carry + ease of modification can't be beat. Y'all have a GOODN.

    My combat setup when I was active duty was different in a lot of ways. At the 2 and 10 o'clock were my M16 mag pouches. At 2:30 was my compass and pouch. At 10:30 was a multitool and pouch. At 11 o'clock was my individual dressing. Canteens at both 4 and 7 o'clock. Buttpack at 6 o'clock. At 3 o'clock I had a SAW pouch, which was what people these days are calling a dump pouch. I kept map markers and alcohol wipes, lickies and chewies, and a sewing kit. Buttpack had my poncho hooch setup and my standard issue cleaning kit. But we used the harness as well, and I kept my Kbar on the left front strap, hilt down, and we were required to have a plastic earplug case tied and taped down right where the pocket of the left shoulder would be. Swap that if you were a lefty, obviously. Nice to see some old school stuff still in use.

    I totally agree. The old gear is still very much G-2-G and the prices cant be beat. I have a pistol belt with M-12 holster and all the required ALICE pouches attached to it and, if I need to, I can simply throw on my surplus SDS MOLLE-2 zippered vest with mag shingles and grab my rifle and I just multiplied my defense capability. All of it surplus, in good-excellent condition, for about $100. Its not high speed operator equipment, but I'm not a high speed operator.

    I got a very similar rig. All alice on a utility belt and the LBE H suspenders except instead of using those old alice m16 mag pouches I have a 6 mag chest rig. That makes room for a buttpack, canteen, pistol holster, pistol mag pouches and IFAK pouch on the belt. When I was in the Army I hated going prone with those alice mag pouches. I always had to unfasten my belt to go prone. So the chest rig for my mags are much better and the mags lay flat against me. Much more comfy. Ya might want to try it out. The chest rigs are pretty cheap. Alice belt with a chest rig is a great combo for me. Ty from Ohio.

    As far as accessible surplus is concerned, old Vietnam-era belt systems are still readily available. Personally I prefer the old brass mushroom buckles to any sort of plastic snap for ALICE compatible belts. And recently I've started to move away from ALICE fasteners altogether in favour of two pieces of sturdy shaped wire mounted through the belt grommets directly on either the two-hole or three-hole design. The best parts of the ALICE system are the pouches and the harness, although the latter has not fundamentally changed from the 1967 pattern H-harness webbing set (and the H-harness pattern is certainly more comfortable than the typical LC2 Y-harness pattern!)
    Either way, ALICE is only eclipsed by MOLLE because the latter is simply more modular and therefore versatile. ALICE is truly at its best when it's set up according to the few official arrangements it was designed to accomodate, but it retains just enough flexibility that a clever user can modify it slightly to better fit their requirements. Without a doubt a venerable classic that will probably outlive all of us in one conflict or another...

    I wore that set up in the Marine
    corps back in 1987 to 1991. My stuff was 1970 Vietnam era equipment. I miss it. It's better than the crap today. Don't forget your suspenders to and rook sack or butt pack. My set up was m12 holster right side for my Colt 1911A1 mag pouch then my M 14 mag pouches canteens and rook sack or butt pack with suspenders and on them my K Bar and compass pouch. My combat light and all in black since I was in force recon worked as a sniper. In my butt pack or rook sack was my cleaning kit, first aid pouch, mess kit, and 5 grenades smoke, frag, LZ spotter grenades, and precaution grenades. Extra socks and poncho. Not to much since I was a sniper. The Boony rats carried allis packs Laws rockets, m 60 pouches, c 4 or 3 pouches, grenades pouches, claymore pouches and M 79 blooper pouches. My brothers wore flack jackets to. DAM THAT'S OUR DEVIL DOGS HOORAH.

In combat nobody is going to be John Wick or the Professional back in the 90s. if you are an Infantryman in Iraq or the Stan, not all infantrymen are trained to be better pistol shooters unless they came from the National Guard or Army Reserve. NGARV soldier citizens are better shooters because they are either law enforcement or security employed folks. They shoot more in qualification and training required by their employers to reduce liability. With this current situation going on. I will promote and encourage those who are entitled legally to the 2nd Amendment right to defend themselves and their family. I’d recommend switching out those pistol mag pouches for the Vietnam cotton canvas .45 pouches (slide keeper version) it holds two mags and way more durable most likely, and maybe a buttpack instead of the saw pouch

      I have found that the M1956 butt pack flops over if worn on the belt without the suspenders. If it could be rigged to attach to the belt higher up on the buttpack, I could do that.

  • @pflugervillebushcraft8149

    You know whats nice about this setup, you could remove the mags, and use the ar mag pouches to hold bushcraft stuff or hiking stuff and its a 2 for one setups.

    • @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
      @FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival  5 років тому

      Exactly. I had it configured like that before for a hiking belt, just moved a few pouches around and put mags in them...

      I would probably swap out that small pouch for a knife and another pistol mag pouch, you could use that third pistol mag pouch to hold a flashlight.

      @@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I've used both and Id say the malice clips are more secure. I haven't had issues with the alice system myself, but ive seen a less competent person manage to have it bork up on that and get his canteen un-clipped hiking in rougher terrain. alice clips are great, but some people definitely need a more "grunt proof" solution to avoid problems.
