As far as accessible surplus is concerned, old Vietnam-era belt systems are still readily available. Personally I prefer the old brass mushroom buckles to any sort of plastic snap for ALICE compatible belts. And recently I've started to move away from ALICE fasteners altogether in favour of two pieces of sturdy shaped wire mounted through the belt grommets directly on either the two-hole or three-hole design. The best parts of the ALICE system are the pouches and the harness, although the latter has not fundamentally changed from the 1967 pattern H-harness webbing set (and the H-harness pattern is certainly more comfortable than the typical LC2 Y-harness pattern!) Either way, ALICE is only eclipsed by MOLLE because the latter is simply more modular and therefore versatile. ALICE is truly at its best when it's set up according to the few official arrangements it was designed to accomodate, but it retains just enough flexibility that a clever user can modify it slightly to better fit their requirements. Without a doubt a venerable classic that will probably outlive all of us in one conflict or another...

I run something very similar, a Condor gun belt with ALICE suspenders. I use both MOLLE and ALICE pouches. Definitely better having our hips carry most of the load.
I find that an LC 2 belt, Ranger modified, and a Condor H harness works fine. All of the MOLLE rides high, because it's designed for Mech infantry. For grunt gear, the belt & suspender systems are still best.
I started to switch to molle. Got a molle pacvk a few pouches. Thought I'd upgrade from a Alice Harness. And pretty soon discovered 1. Molle battle belt twice as wide 2. @@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I have jumped a few times as an assistant gunner for the platoon's M-60 which I usually carry. In the large rucksack I had that stuffed with 600 rounds of 7.62 belts in bandoliers, tripod, T&E, spare barrel in the bag strapped on top of the ammo. 12 stripped MREs, 5 quarts of water, and personal gear rigged up to jump which is 80-90 pounds. Wearing my parachute, reserve, M16A2 in a jump case, with LBE. This was pretty heavy. My ALICE ruck frame and pack never broke when I dropped it 200 feet before I landed attached to my harness via 15 foot lowering line. Even sucks when I jump from 800 feet at night.
I’d recommend switching out those pistol mag pouches for the Vietnam cotton canvas .45 pouches (slide keeper version) it holds two mags and way more durable most likely, and maybe a buttpack instead of the saw pouch
I have found that the M1956 butt pack flops over if worn on the belt without the suspenders. If it could be rigged to attach to the belt higher up on the buttpack, I could do that.
Great vid man. I went to your ytc because I was looking for a ALICE belt recommendation , for this very reason. What belt do you reccomend ? This way I can start setting up from there. Thanks!!
Instead of the SAW pouch in the back, I use the Butt pack with the suspenders^ In the butt pack I keep basic survival gear, few days worth of food, poncho and 550 cord lashed to the top.
My mistake...I do like the setup, though. A quick grab defense kit would be great for the castle. Whatever that said castle may be. Ranch, house, camper, apartment.
Im heavily considering this myself, I dont really see a reason to dump so much money on a newer belt since I can just put new mag pouches on the alice belt anyways.
I would suggest another canteen with a cup and lid that fits under one of your canteens. And another saw bag for calories granola bars gone roasted nuts etc died starting stuff etc.
I have the more modern molle belt but I’m of the same mindset as you. I see people with so called “ battle belt “ and it has two AR mags and two pistol mags. That’s not a battle belt, that’s a competition belt for quick reloads. In my mind a battle belt is to sustain you in battle, you need ammo, water, first aid and tools. Good gear.
It is a sample "War Belt" setup and as we are not in a time of war or social upheaval I do not make a habit of wearing it openly around the community. It is an ALICE system and the video was made to show how versatile the old school setups can be. And I can see "buy" your comment that you are obviously an intelligent person.....
One suggestion: Take off thge "miscellaneous pouch", put your canteen there. If it conflicts with the pistol, move the med kit further to the left, and have the pistol mag pouches touching. Then, where the canteen is now, put a dump pouch.
You know whats nice about this setup, you could remove the mags, and use the ar mag pouches to hold bushcraft stuff or hiking stuff and its a 2 for one setups.
Yes there are, I was just thinking if you were looking at a go to war belt, it might be nice to have a knife and flashlight, seemed like the only items possibly missing from it. @@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I've used both and Id say the malice clips are more secure. I haven't had issues with the alice system myself, but ive seen a less competent person manage to have it bork up on that and get his canteen un-clipped hiking in rougher terrain. alice clips are great, but some people definitely need a more "grunt proof" solution to avoid problems.
Hey FB! I noticed 3 mags in the ammo pouch. I can only get 3 of the aluminum kind in. Not 3 p mags. Have you done anything to make the p mags fit. Thank you...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Ok. So I had 2 new mag pouchs, and they fit. The other pouches were stiff and about 1/4-3/8" shorter. Will fit aluminum mags.
How on earth do you get the smell out of surplus? I have tried scrubbing with dawn and a toothbrush, spraying with Lysol, and leaving it outside for a full day and the smell won't leave.
I let my stuff soak all day, or night, in 5 gallon bucket of dawn water. Then let it sit all day in clean water. Take off metal keepers. That stuff has set for years in warehouse so it's gonna need to soak or air out big time.
You can get them for a decent price from most surplus shops online. If you have some other things you need Id highly recommend varusteleka, they have a lot of very high qaulity surplus for very cheap even with the cost of shipping from Finland.

You need to get the belt pad that go's on the belt, way more comfy, thx for the vid.
Thanks! I have been looking for one for a couple of years and cannot find one...

Awesome tips!
Glad you like them!
I’d recommend switching out those pistol mag pouches for the Vietnam cotton canvas .45 pouches (slide keeper version) it holds two mags and way more durable most likely, and maybe a buttpack instead of the saw pouch
That is the cool thing about ALICE stuff, you can really mix and match
I have found that the M1956 butt pack flops over if worn on the belt without the suspenders. If it could be rigged to attach to the belt higher up on the buttpack, I could do that.
I'm 14 and everyone tells me to use MOLLE, but tbh I'm loyal to ALICE
A: there's a lot of bargains on ALICE gear
B: it looks cool
It is very versatile also
How well does this setup work over your pants belt? Thanks for the video
It works very well. I have it adjusted to ride on my hips so it is very comfortable
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival so it rides above your pants belt or below? I'm still experimenting to see what works best for me. Thanks
@@Skyfall-sv8df You can put it anywhere you want. I do not usually wear a pants belt so this does double duty
Great vid man. I went to your ytc because I was looking for a ALICE belt recommendation , for this very reason. What belt do you reccomend ? This way I can start setting up from there. Thanks!!
Thanks! This is just a basic LC2 web belt, from there you can set up hundreds of combos off the same belt platform....
Venture Surplus still has them as well as complete ALICE set up for a good price.
Go to Mack Daddy 1911.
Nice setup !
Thanks. It works well, just as good as any other...
Instead of the SAW pouch in the back, I use the Butt pack with the suspenders^ In the butt pack I keep basic survival gear, few days worth of food, poncho and 550 cord lashed to the top.
I could do that but this is not meant to be a multi day rig, this is meant to carry ammo and a sidearm....
My mistake...I do like the setup, though. A quick grab defense kit would be great for the castle. Whatever that said castle may be. Ranch, house, camper, apartment.
Everything is sure nice and clean....lol
Right?! I have not rolled around in the mud with this setup yet lol
Im heavily considering this myself, I dont really see a reason to dump so much money on a newer belt since I can just put new mag pouches on the alice belt anyways.
This is just as good as a newer setup and much cheaper
I would suggest another canteen with a cup and lid that fits under one of your canteens. And another saw bag for calories granola bars gone roasted nuts etc died starting stuff etc.
Sometimes I carry my cup and lid like that on this belt....
The best!
Thanks!
Good gear.
Exactly! Thanks.
I can think of plenty of replacements for ammo. Unless you are going into combat
This is just one setup for the ALICE system
Good Video.
Thanks!
I can see buy your gear ! It’s never been out of your house 😅
It is a sample "War Belt" setup and as we are not in a time of war or social upheaval I do not make a habit of wearing it openly around the community. It is an ALICE system and the video was made to show how versatile the old school setups can be. And I can see "buy" your comment that you are obviously an intelligent person.....
One suggestion:
Take off thge "miscellaneous pouch", put your canteen there. If it conflicts with the pistol, move the med kit further to the left, and have the pistol mag pouches touching. Then, where the canteen is now, put a dump pouch.
Yep you could do that. Cool thing about ALICE is that you can move things around easily
Its not called a battle belt . It is called LBE Load Bearing Equipment
This is a belt rig, which is a component of LBE. If I used it with suspenders then it would be LBE
You know whats nice about this setup, you could remove the mags, and use the ar mag pouches to hold bushcraft stuff or hiking stuff and its a 2 for one setups.
Exactly. I had it configured like that before for a hiking belt, just moved a few pouches around and put mags in them...
I would probably swap out that small pouch for a knife and another pistol mag pouch, you could use that third pistol mag pouch to hold a flashlight.
@@pflugervillebushcraft8149 There are tons of ways to configure ALICE stuff!
Yes there are, I was just thinking if you were looking at a go to war belt, it might be nice to have a knife and flashlight, seemed like the only items possibly missing from it.
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival
You can improve changing the alice clips for malice clips. Anyway nice belt.
You could do that. i find the clips are just fine though...
@@TheUnchosenOne You can always tie them down...
Hey FB! I noticed 3 mags in the ammo pouch. I can only get 3 of the aluminum kind in. Not 3 p mags. Have you done anything to make the p mags fit. Thank you...
Nope. I just jammed them in there...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival 10.4 Mine will go in but ridiculously hard to close.... Thanks man!
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Ok. So I had 2 new mag pouchs, and they fit. The other pouches were stiff and about 1/4-3/8" shorter. Will fit aluminum mags.
whoa dude... you look like your under contract with those new grips. :D ha!
Lol...they look pretty good. I had to sand them down a little though as they were REALLY rough
How on earth do you get the smell out of surplus? I have tried scrubbing with dawn and a toothbrush, spraying with Lysol, and leaving it outside for a full day and the smell won't leave.
Laggy McLaggylag try washing with some Borax.
I'll try that. Thanks.
Try baking soda then rinse with fresh water.
I let my stuff soak all day, or night, in 5 gallon bucket of dawn water. Then let it sit all day in clean water. Take off metal keepers. That stuff has set for years in warehouse so it's gonna need to soak or air out big time.
This is a late response but thanks!
My belt looks very similar I love Alice bets. Molle is good for my day packs not my belt Alice is way sturdier.
For a belt rig I think so too. It is absolutely bomb proof
At the end of the day: it's going to be about how much money you have and/or how much money you're willing to spend on gear.
True. Alice gear is still relatively inexpensive

Thanks!
Is an ALICE belt of just compass pouches acceptable?
Absolutely lol! You can line up anything that you want on these belts
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival cool lol
Where do you get your Alice equipment?
Mostly from Amazon and ebay, some from local surplus shops....
You can get them for a decent price from most surplus shops online. If you have some other things you need Id highly recommend varusteleka, they have a lot of very high qaulity surplus for very cheap even with the cost of shipping from Finland.
I think you might want to buy a few more mags lol
Especially these days lol. I have several now...
If you can't fill all your mag pouches, you need more mags
You got that right...
It perfectly integrates with your belly. 😉
Yes it does! I have lost about 20lbs since then lol
How about bat man belt ! ! ! ! ! !
Lol...I think that all the time, it is my Batman Utility Belt
Knife
That is about the only thing that is missing...
You have the exact setup I was planning down to the m12 I have on the way from ebay lmao. Get some field clothing to go with it big dog. Or just get a tigrestripe blouse and wear it with what you got and look like a CIA spook 😂😂😂 cheers!
It works great paired with woodland camp lol
