I like you mods. I worked for Tactical Tailor in Lakewood, WA and we modified / repaired thousands of Alice packs from all over the world. My special mod was to cut the bottom 1/3 off of a plastic trash can and use it as an inside base. Also when camping I pull it out and use it as water container to wash with. Thanks for making a great video.
Thanks! I also make that mod and have a video on it also. It is harder to find a trash can that will fit the medium pack than it is to find one to fit the large pack...
Back when I was issued these, instead of a false bottom we threw a spare pare of boots in the bottom, laid on the sides heal to toe, and filled in the center with spare underwear or anything that fit. Same idea, make a flat bottom. Good tips.
well i feel inspired to mod my Medium Alice pack its seen service and some how ended up over here in UK its best bit of kit i have ever had the frame is awesome for strapping stuff on Its got M-249 written on the back i'm sure it was used to carry belts for the m249 its 70's issue cool to have some US history
My same pack someone threw away what a happy day dumpster diving had the pack 10 years like new still use every trip fishing hunting camping traveling its my go to suitcase all the time Joey Louisiana
The Para cord Hand Hold was a great idea my Friend. Having the tarp located toward the back side also allows for extra padding when hiking. Thanks for sharing FBB&S👍👍👍👍👍
Grab handle is slick. I still have my large ALICE from when I was airborne infantry. That space between the frame and ones back is for ventilation usually. Granted, I sweat like a 500lb gorilla. Admittedly, I was lazy and sent it to tactical tailor to be tricked out. It's actually my backpacking backpack now. It will never break.
Very good stuff I’m in the marines and we all use Alice frames because their is nothing better than old school but they are amazing frames and packs and this helps us with making it more comfortable I use it for ruck running smoothest run ever with 45 pounds going for a good 6 miles
I run a medium alice with a 1606MC frame, molle 2 straps and waist belt. I use the webbing at the top to attach a molle waistpack right under the lid, a sleep system carrier at the bottom, 2 - 200 round saw pouches on the bottom sides or canteen covers if no 3L hydration bladder in the radio pouch. You can add nod pouches on the waistbelt or a left and right 3 mag with grenade molle pouch for quick storage. Gives me plenty of room for mess kit, fire kit, ifak, sleep gear of choice and a DD tarp or Hammock. Good video man. I use a 13 gallon trash can cut off to fit my pack. I run 550 cobra braids for handles on it. I dont use it a lot but if I need to haul water I can. Big plus is if you use a white trashcan it makes it easier to see in your pack. Bungies are great for setting a fly. 👍I rarely use 550 'A-lines' anymore. Just keep the 550 for guylines really already attached to the tarp. Easton stakes with 550 loops to quickly attach to the guylines that way of you gotta pack up in a hurry you dont lose your stakes. Wooooohoooo. You got me all excited, lol. I love Alice. She's my go to girl.
I like some of the older military stuff all the way back to Vietnam and even WW2 gear used by us, Germany and the British. It's still functional and it's easy enough to make a few modifications or upgrades. Nicely done and thumbs up from Orlando.
I put my shoulder and waist belt from my molle 2 pack on my large alice frame and that is without a doubt, the most comfortable ruck i own. Ive also fashioned 2 horizontal compression straps and quick buckles on the lid straps and it compresses down nice and secure to the frame. Its 10x more comfortable than even my usmc ilbe pack thats made by arcteryx which is suppose to be one of tge best rucks made. Ive just never been able to get it to fit my back correctly and it weighs about 9 pounds empty.

Flex seal on the inside of the top flap to fix the old waterproof top. And a Camelback fits in to the open space on the back of the frame. Just a couple things I've seen

@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival It works, thats for sure and has some advantages over the MOLLE, but the MOLLE straps and belt, above all, are soooo much better. I actually like the ALICE frame, but found it easier to put the pack on a MOLLE frame, than to get the MOLLE straps to work right, on the ALICE frame. I also keep my ALICE straps attached direct, for off-frame packing.
What's going on Florida boy? Nice job on the para cord handle. I've ran into the same inconvenience with my US Army pack too. I guess I will need to practice up my skills on looping a para cord bracelet. Subd your channel brother to check out more later. I appreciate what you are doing out there for the survival community.
Thanks man! I am subbed to you now also. the handle, whether paracord or otherwise, makes a HUGE difference in how you can handle the medium pack. try it!
Another great video Matt but you forgot to show us how you strap that favorite knife you own you know the BUCK 119 onto ALICE, or is it strapped onto you? On my ALICE packs I got US military surplus webbing cut some up and my wife sewed it to the pack in the same spot as your paracord handle. It works great. I'm guessing your paracord handle works great too. Great video Brother. Keep up the good work.
My Buck knife is always on my belt not on the pack. Sometimes it is IN the pack on the way to camp, but then it is on my belt. good idea on the webbing for a handle, I would have done that but I can;t sew...lol
I LOVE those little packs. You show me some GREAT ideas. Thanks Man! The area behind the shoulder pads and before the metal frame is a great place to store stuff now that I think about it and now that you've shown me how to use it. Thanks. Keep on hiking brother. Bart
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival It made a huge difference for me! I never had an alice frame. Just the pack. I've moved on to having basic gear in a shoulder bag and sleeping/cooking gear in a bedroll, but I still use the Alice pack for my airsoft gear. Great bag.
Thanks for the video I got a few good tips like the handle was a great idea and the false floor would work great for me. I got a question for you. In you years of useing you Alice pack have you had any luck finding the US GI spaghetti straps? Was curious my father has some on his pac and I would luv a set but, cant find any? Thanks my friend for the video

I’m outbackScout_. And. Where u put your tarp I put. My tarp and I’m able to put my poncho . I was thinking about how cool would it be to use the Alice frame as a army-cot using wood
Just bought an ALICE pack. And measured her up, and ordered some zippers. For what? On sides where water bottles clip on..I'm putting 4 straps, 2 zips, and putting British PLCE 12litre rocket pouches on the side
Lol...right? I have several USGI green canteens that I use with other rigs, these are ones that actually came with my medium ALICE pack and are easier to use and clean so I use these most of the time.
FloridaBoy Survival How I clean my canteens: I wash them with hot water, fill up with hot water but leave about 10-20% empty, replace cap and vigorously shake. Empty water. Refill and put one denture cleaner tablet in canteen (I use Efferdent). It kills 99.9% of germs, is safe on plastics, human safe. Let sit overnight then wash out canteen. I also use it on my water bladders instead of Camelbak’s overpriced cleaner tablets, which are the same stuff, really.
If you have the pack on the frame you can’t put anything on the shelf but you can do it to where you can use the shelf to hang stuff off the bottom of it
I use the space in the frame to put a dense foam knee board. It pads my back when in walking then I use it to sit on and stay off the ground. I also put my spare BDU uniform flat on the bottom does the same thing. Never thought of putting machete in sideays. Great job. My training came from 1/75 Rangers 77-79.

It works, thats for sure and has some advantages over the MOLLE, but the MOLLE straps and belt, above all, are soooo much better. I actually like the ALICE frame, but found it easier to put the pack on a MOLLE frame, than to get the MOLLE straps to work right, on the ALICE frame. I also keep my ALICE straps attached direct, for off-frame packing.
Very good ideas. Thank you very much
Thanks! The false bottom one is probably the best idea...
Some good stuff I havnt seen before.
Thanks!
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival oh. You're welcome. I need to find a tutorial on the paracord handle.
@@UuddlerLeRoyBaStart It is pretty easy to do...
I'm pretty sure. But the only thing I've done with paracord is wrap the handle on my roofing hatchet I got from Wal-Mart.
iv'e got a thing for ALICE...oh yeah!....nice mods Matt...woods
Me too, I like ALICE better than MOLLE...lol
Any links to your previous videos on Alice/duce gear or Molle rig?
I have a playlist on those...
Awesome mods and great video
Thanks. These are easy cheap mods but make a big difference...
Thanks man! I am subbed to you now also. the handle, whether paracord or otherwise, makes a HUGE difference in how you can handle the medium pack. try it!
I bought the shelf for my LC2
I think that I want one also...
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival bag stands up. No more falling into the mud.
@@Gryphon_Hawke Nice...
Bart
I cut a bottom plate from mdf a few years ago. I thought I was a genius x'D
Lol...we are both geniuses then. The bottom plate makes a world of difference...
Thanks! I have not seen them anywhere either....
I dig your shirt! What kind of Fender do you have?
Thanks! I have a Stratocaster and a Telecaster
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I have a Strat too; one of these days I gotta get me a Telecaster! Love your channel man!
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Cool video
Thanks!
Matt ,I like your video on the Alice pack I have 3 1,med 2 large did all your mods on them ,my question is On the med Alice pack there are 3 sets of tie downs in side .what are they used for ?
You can use them to draw up the inside of the pack to make it smaller...
That pack almost looks brand new. If it is, or fairly, can you enlighten where it came from?
It was a NOS one off of ebay...
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
I’m outbackScout_. And. Where u put your tarp I put. My tarp and I’m able to put my poncho .
I was thinking about how cool would it be to use the Alice frame as a army-cot using wood
Cool. there is a lot of unused space in the medium pack. The cot idea is pretty good....
Just bought an ALICE pack. And measured her up, and ordered some zippers.
For what? On sides where water bottles clip on..I'm putting 4 straps, 2 zips, and putting British PLCE 12litre rocket pouches on the side
Nice, that should work also. You can also use MOLLE sustainment pouches on the sides too...
Nice review. Curious why you use Nalgene canteens instead of USGI ones? Seems almost sacrilege to not use USGI canteens with all the USGI gear.
Mr. Tangent I use ‘milton’ baby bottle tablets and do the same.👍👍
Wow you the man my friend my wife love your video to
Thanks! More of them to come...
Great mods
Thanks! My pack is gonna go on a trip with me soon...
What a cool idea instead of it rolling over
Thanks!
thanks i like it.
Thanks! You can really do a lot with this pack
SuperGood
Thanks! More upgrades coming on this one...
Nice pack mods!
Thanks. Those are just a few quick and easy ones...
Lol, damn wish I had that kind of time to fiddle with my Alice pac
It doesn't take very long to mod it a little...
Stop surfing the web and get to work!!! Lol
Great video can you do a video on the para cord grab handle
Thanks! Sure, I will work on that one for ya...
What tent are you using?
I am currently using the River Country Trekker 2a
I always wandered who bought the medium ones.
Lol...guys like me.....
Thanks for the tips, just got mine 👍🏻, do you go by nasa, was there one summer, the gators 🐊 kept looking at me, daring me to come closer 😳
Cool. Yes I get up around NASA occasionally. Yes there are lots of gators in the Banana River
FloridaBoy Survival , thanks for the reply 👍🏻🐊
Where in Florida are you? I am in New port Richey - Pasco county north of Tampa on the gulf coast.
I have a good friend in Port Richey. I am over in Melbourne on the east coast...
nice vid👍😊
Thanks!
Did you have a thread cap on the pvc so you can store things in it?
No that piece of PVC was for another project and does not go in the pack. I am just using it as a packing support for the pack.
Just a thought, you can paint it and it could be water tight.
Can you use a pack with the shelf’s to hold wood water ect. And still have your gear
The shelf fits just below the pack so to use the shelf with gear like ammo boxes you have to remove the pack
That is a pretty big space in the frame that you can use for lots of stuff. The machete trick works great!
