Definitely restore it, don't risk it getting damaged from cooking fumes/oils!
I’m with you! Restore and protect it! 🤍🤍
Totally agree!
Yes and coat with something flame-resistant.
There is always the risk of lead in the paint, so I'm with you. Restoring didn't need to be uniform, just save, clean and smooth.
Restore and paint it
Hi MaCenna - Quick idea - if you find a lighting fixture that is full of crystals but has great bones, you can always remove the crystals, use the light without them, and hang the crystals on your Christmas tree! We inherited an old chandelier at one point and that's what we did. I still use the crystals on my tree and they reflect the lights so beautifully.
You and Romeo look so happy!
I bet your tree is gorgeous year!!
THIS! I was gonna say “why doesn’t she ever consider removing the crystals?” But Ornaments??! LOVE that idea!
I didn’t happen to have a convenient chandelier, but I did find lots of chandelier crystals on Facebook marketplace to use on my Christmas trees. I’m so happy with how they look!
I was going to suggest that myself. Crystals on the Christmas tree is a great idea, and I would save a few to hang in the windows. Crystals make awesome prisms which have dancing rainbows on your walls when the sun shines through them. I have prisms in every window. ♥♥♥
We have some hanging in our window to make rainbows. My kids love it!
Definitely restore it. It will add incredible beauty to the kitchen without being a distracting difference. Plus you don't want unknown paint flaking off into your food, or getting mouldy.
They could be sealed as is so that nothing would flake off.
They look more shabby chic right now instead of organic vintage. Also, that paint drip on the side would drive me crazy. They are beautiful and I am excited to see how they will be used.
I agree; I think they would look better if they were stripped and painted the same as the hood. I think in their present state, they would distract from everything else. Be careful though before you strip the paint that you check to make sure they don’t have lead paint; that would be very harmful to the baby and to you.
Or lead in the paint flakes. Have Romeo or a professional strip it.
No Macanna !!! Keep it rustic chic like it is...let it match the wooden beams..just a protective layer...you can always change it later as life goes on.. such a stunning find and rare.
The corbels are GORGEOUS! I would test the paint on the corbels for lead before deciding how to finish them! I do think they would look good stripped and stained to match whatever you do with the beams. Also, consider the heat from the stove before deciding on how close to the stove you can place them!!! Your contractor should be able to give you the minimum clearances.
YES...have the finish match the beams!
Several very good points here!
Yep agreed, make them match the beams.
❤❤❤❤matching the beams great idea love it
Hopefully she sees this: Definitely test them for LEAD > those look suspicious
In the middle of watching someone else UA-cam video and notification of macenna pops in, sorry other video but this is priority. So excited. 😁
😂😂😂 same here
I was doing exactly the same as you 😂😂. Love watching MaCenna ❤
The same thing with me, I was suppose to listen to a favorite Korean series Playlist and then macenna's vlog pop up 😊😊 sorry, macenna first then music later ❤❤❤
Saaame😂😂😂😂
Right🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣❣️
Have you asked Drew to be on the lookout for the lighting?
I thought the same.
I thought the same
The same!
Funny it also thought this
lol I was thinking this too
Strip and restore is my vote. Great job finding those the shape is so pretty
My vote for corbels is stripping/sealing, so it fits more cohesively with your overall kitchen design. 😊
About the light over the table, you may want to get a "stand in" for right now. You can always change it to the perfect one when you find it!
great idea!
Came here to say the same thing. It's better to wait and get the right one.
That's what I was thinking. Spending so much now on the reno just go for a cheaper option that you like but keep your eyes open for the perfect thing even if it's in a few years. Makes for content with a "kitchen refresh" 😉
Hopefully secondhand so it won't leave a big ecological footprint as a temporary option.
Strip em and do the same wash as your entryway console/bedroom dresser maybe?
That was so adorable when Kinsley was trying to get your attention. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💖🥰💯🌷🕊️
That little paw on McCenna's arm killed me! She's so cute!
McCenna, I’m worried about potential lead based paint on the corbels which concerns me with you expecting. Please test them for a peace of mind.
YES! Please stop touching them until you test them! No decor is worth potentially endangering little man
While she's at it I hope she will also consider testing her old ceramics, glasswear and Pyrex.
Strip the corbels! You are so good at refinishing, I want to see them in your kitchen.
Gotta love Romeo buying toddler sized vintage clothes for the baby! ❤
The best thing you can do for your roses is put used coffee grounds on the bottom! They like the excess nitrogen and it helps it bloom faster / keep blooming!
I would test the corbels for lead paint! I would probably strip and paint so it doesn’t flake into food!
That orange dress looks so good on you. Nice to see you in some colour for a change.
I think restoring them to blend is a nice compromise. You love the corbels and found beautiful vintage ones, which you love and Romeo would prefer it refinished a “cleaned up”. It seems like a prefect blend for the both of you, which is always nice to do in a home you both share.
Those corbels look really large for the space. Hopefully your sketch will prove me wrong!
Large scale is always better than dinky.
I was thinking the same but maybe we don’t get a good visual of the space but they seem way too big
I vote to keep the patina beauty. The juxtaposition would be gorgeous. If it’s lead paint, you can seal it to make it safe. 💞
Agree! So much character the way they are!!❤️
MaCenna going through pregnancy look like a mommy model, I was for sure in my Adam Sandler era during my pregnancies so I LOVE to see it!!
The corbels are a huge architectural statement and in a vintage kitchen, I would leave them. But this is a new build and in my opinion sanding and painting them will make them more cohesive with the rest of the kitchen design. FYI I am jealous.🌺😀
❤ you can take the crystals off some light fixtures if you find one that has the perfect shape and scale.
Funny enough I brought 2 new roses today. A rambler called Felicity Perpetue and a tea rose called Silver Anniversary. Both are white as I'm creating a purple and white theme with my pots this year. I used to have a really stunning climbing rose at the front of my house that I trained up and over our lounge window and also around our porch. It was called Iceberg and literally everyone who came to our house would comment on how pretty it was. Sadly one year it suddenly died so I replaced it with a pale lilac wisteria that I have also trained on the same wires over my window and around our porch. Its currently covered in dripping flowers. Also simply beautiful. I can't wait to watch the new roses grow and bloom but I do know that they take a lot of care because they pick up so many different diseases so easily. I therefore brought a rose spray to use regularly to try and prevent these. It was so hard not to be tempted by all the beautiful red, pink and orange roses in the garden centre but I had a clear image in my mind of what I wanted and that was white flowers. If you are looking for a prolific and stunning flowering rose then do look up Iceberg. I hope to find another one of these one day too. Xx
The corbels are so pretty! If you wanted them the same color as the hood, you could paint them the same color but use a different finish. High gloss would be so pretty and you wouldn’t loose the unique shapes within the corbels.
I did that with my night stands and just finished the decorative doors in high gloss and they’re flat otherwise, but all the exact same color. It adds an accent that’s so unique and impactful.
I would redo the corbel. Even sealing, just in case moisture makes something break loose. Could have lead paint on them. No chances with that beautiful baby.
I’m currently 20 weeks. When I have my ultrasound appointments I eat some piece of candy or something sweet and baby girl moves all around! It’s crazy seeing her lift her hand and see little fingers spread ❤️
That's so adorable! Congratulations on your baby girl!
I miss being pregnant. Likely won't have that experience again. Five kiddos is enough😊😂
Cut back your roses on Valentines Day. Easy to remember.
I'm saying restore and slightly age with darker paint at the angles
You could create a rose scented candle to commemorate your garden! ❤
You can always put up a light and upgrade as you find the forever light.
Hi! Be careful about drinking too much water . It can deplete minerals . I suggest asking your dr exactly how many ounces .
The pretty mantle would be nice incorporated into a range hood.
you know we LOVE a shabby chic corbel, but since the rest of your kitchen (sans the Table) will be shiny and new, you might want to redo them to fit in. They're gorgeous enough in shape, style, and size!! Can't wait to see them 😍😍
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 my Mum, daughter and I love watching your videos. They are good for the soul!
25:05..... I spy the tiniest peek of door and door hinge on the left! Very excited for this Sunday's video!
I think with all the newness of the kitchen, leaving the corbels shabby would give it some character and interest.
The upsidedown mantle to add into the HOOD VENT DESIGN 😍
Where is this mantle some of you are talking about ? I DO love the idea too !!!!
I love the corbels. I would restore them and stain them. Make them disjointed but with stain.
What a great find! The corbels are beautiful! Restoring them would be fun! Maybe, If your cabinets are going to be custom, your vendor will be able to take them, sand them down, and stain them to match the cabinets. Thanks for sharing! 😉❤
Everyone, if Macenna decided to leave the corbels as they are, all she would need to do is clean them up, take off any residual flakes, then coat them with a couple of coats of a clear, protective coat. They would be safe then-and wipeable.
It sounds like Romeo is going to prefer them be restored anyway. They are so beautiful!! And I think the size is perfect scale for room. ~Cathy
Stain the corbels to match the beams 😍
Strip them! That could be lead paint on them!
Corbels, restore to their former glory !!!! they are stunning - great find Macenna
I would leave them in their shabby glory! Original is original that’s what will make your kitchen unique!
That mirror was so gorgeous!
Hello from Sweden! ❤️ the time diff always force me to look at your videos one day later 😩 Its 11 pm here now and I REALLY need to sleep even though I want to have a look instantly 😅 Look forward to watching tomorrow! You are an absolute favourite! ❤️❤️ hugs from the nordics 🤗
I absolutely love the corbels that you purchased at the flea market in all their glory. However, I might sand them a little bit, but I love the coloring. You are looking fabulous with your baby bump. I’m glad that you’re having a wonderful pregnancy.
Your kitchen is going to look amazing! I’m excited for y’all. Kingsley is so cute. I’m sure she’ll well with your newborn baby when he gets here. Have a great week. ☺️❤️
I love the shabby as is, however sealing it is a must.
I think you should wait to see what your light fixture looks like before you decide on the corbels. In your last video that one light you showed had more of a shabby, white-washed look to it, so it might tie in nicely with the corbels as-is if you were to go with something like that. Or, if you went with something different and more polished, it might look better to restore them. Since they would both probably be vintage pieces, I think it would be nice if they had the same kind of vibe going on to tie them together!
She did mention having only a couple of weeks as a time frame for the builders to start working on the range hood/corbels so she likely may not have found the “perfect” light fixture before that. As others have suggested she might want to put up a fixture that may not be the perfect one for now but continue looking for the perfect one. It can be changed out when that. happens.
A while back on one of your videos, you went to a place I think Drew told you about. It had great lighting and you loved this one light. It was like three together.
I thinks she said it was too small 😭
I know I love that brass light
Husband and I just painted our bedroom Sculptor Clay, yess Mama MaCenna that is a beautiful calm color. Thank you for your advice. Love your channel down.
I say leave the corbels looking shabby! You look so happy talking about them being shabby.
Yes please leave them in there antique glory.
The corbels are beautiful just how they are , it will add a lot of character
I love them just the way they are. I’d just clean them up & test for lead. They are so beautiful!
I would just seal the corbels! I love the chippy!
I think the shabby look on the corbels would be nice looking
Yes the corbels would look better with a slightly newer finish as they are looking a bit unloved! It may take you a while to get the perfect lighting but if you have a back up you could always change it at a later date!
I would paint the corbel, mostly because it is so close to where you will be cooking and preparing food and using high heat. I know you mentioned sealing it really well, but I think that it might be one of those things where it's better to be safe than sorry. You could always paint it in a way to add the dimension that you are looking for! Like staining and then painting, then sealing, etc.
I would definitely leave them, to bring in that old world charm you love! If you re-do them, it will just look all "new", but you're going for that old world french look!
I’d definitely keep it as is. 😊. I love eclectic and unusual old things.
Hypocalcemia can also cause leg cramps. Calcium aids in muscular contractions. Too much water can also lead to water intoxication. Always consult a physician or registered dietician. I used to work on a water intoxication ward at a psychiatric hospital.
It's true. Drinking too much water can dilute the Sodium and Potassium in your blood which can lead to fits and potential heart failure.
Three of those bottles wont cause water intoxication tho
Yes, I learned this the hard way. I ended up in the hospital when I was in my early 20’s, from flushing all of the electrolytes out of my system. I was training to compete in a fitness competition & I was drinking way too much water. I had no idea this was even a thing, but it was super scary! I still drink a lot of water, but not to the point of intoxication.
@@LindaKayHolevas Glad to hear you were OK. 😀
Yeeey! New vlog right by the time when I’m going to bed in Sweden 😂 Perfect for tomorrow morning when I’m doing my makeup 😍💪🏻
I would leave it as is but put some kind of clear coat on it to prevent any flaking coming off into your food as your cooking and to make it easier to dust and clean. Those are beautiful!
Restore!!! They are gorgeous. So happy for you that you found them! Can’t wait to see everything come together 💕
Corbels should match the beams
My favorite thing was falling even more deeply in love with my sweet husband, I was running my own company, and hired a nanny but Michael took parental leave for both my son and daughter (he's a paramedic) and watching him bond and fall madly in love with these wee people was a joy! I love that Romeo is already bonding! white flowers tend to have more sent! We were far to busy admiring your Bump!
Leave them the way they are….. beautiful 😊
Definitely keep them as is. No! Don't restore, they are gorgeous! Have a blessed day 🙏💙♥️🐕
Imo, you need to go higher with the corbels so you don't bang your head on the hood when you're cooking. The hood base needs to be higher than your forehead or you'll be hitting your head all the time.
I had that same thought. The corbel placement seems a little too low.
U could stain it like your beams
Soak banana skins in water as a feex for your Roses on a weekly basis.
Restore the Corbels is my vote, just a clean and tidy up. Theyre beautiful x
Definitely leave them original, but seal them for use in the cooking area👍
I THINK THEY ARE WAY TO BIG
Please don't paint them! They have aged beautifully and are gorgeous just the way they are!
Omgggg girllll i was crying when you didn't got the telescope 😭😭😭....
Leave the corbels in their vintage glory!!
I guess I’m in the minority…I would just put a good sealer on the corbels!! They are gorgeous just the way they are!! Great find!! BTW you look adorable pregnant McCenna!!🥰
Keep them and seal them!!
I love them just the way they are. Love the patina.
Keep ‘em shabby! Love that look! Whatever you decide I know I’ll love though.
Definitely restore and paint/seal them properly to protect them. Shabby is great restored and matching the hood would be more the vibe with the overall concept
I love the corbels as they are definitely would need really good sealing, but it seems you guys are leaning to restore them, I would probably strip and try to match them to the other wood in the space either the beams rn or your table I feel leaning in to a lighter stain would be so nice rather than matching the cabinets or hood
Keep and seal it is my vote
I’d leave the corbel as it is.. it’s amazing!!!!
I’d keep the corbel rustic looking bc I love the old European look. But they will be gorgeous no matter what. Redone will be super nice too.
Love the corbels!! I vote leave them shabby!!!❤
Don’t forget about how and where your pot filler comes out in your hood design. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.
Since it's over your stove/kitchen I'd strip them. They seem a little big for that application...are you sure they are in proportion? If not, use them somewhere else in kitchen.😊
For finding the right light, if you've exhausted the places in LA, you could maybe try reaching out to the lighting stores and salvage stores in San Diego, they could ship to LA! There are a lot of spanish style homes here, so it could be worth a try ❤ cant wait to see what you find
My vote is to strip the corbles. Also Emtek make great handles with a french antique brass finish. Great weight, because they are made with solid brass. Just a thought.
I would totally keep them, they are my cup of tea and I love that look. But, it depends on what style you are going for and I really think for you, you need to strip and stain the same wood color you have in the beams.
Love the corbels and yes refinish them. Kitchen moisture and heat and cooking residue can destroy the exterior, so make them fail safe! Going to be so pretty! Exciting times!
I vote for cleaning it up/restoring it, but in the exact same colors they currently are.
In your last video you mentioned collecting things for your house takes time. I love how you hunt and wait for the perfect items! The vintage corbels are beautiful
You're just lovely and glowing. Have been watching your channel since 2019. Best running show I've ever watched.
I love the corbels, just the way they are!
Love love love them!! Although I like the idea of them being kept as they are I feel restoring them out be best. Mainly because your kitchen design is so polished I feel keeping these shabby would hinder the final aesthetic. So pleased you, Romeo and Bump are all well. Sending lots of love from UK ❤❤
Such a sweet family, thanks for sharing your lives with us all!
I’m the lead paint police lol please please for your protection get a clearance inspection done and do multiple tests in each room after your projects to make sure baby boy isn’t crawling in any lead dust 💕 - from a mom with trauma from lead paint. And also suggest testing the new purchase before sanding or stripping the corbels. I vote to seal it in really good theyre gorgeous
I’d check the corbels for lead paint first and then decide. You can always destress paint them to update the paint so you know they’re not going to chip paint around your cooking. They are great and I’m glad you found a feature you love for the kitchen.
