Irene Cara was truly a musical genius. This song, for which she wrote the lyrics in 1983, is one of the all-time great music hits of the 1980s. It won several awards, including an Oscar for best original song in a film. It is one of the most influential songs of that period, and it is Miss Cara's greatest achievement. When she performs this number in stage, she not only displays her impressive singing voice, but also her great dancing skills as well. She was a true song-and -dance woman in every sense of the word. This number, along with her other accomplishments, is part of her legacy, and it will live on forever. Rest peacefully, Irene Cara, you were a giant among pop stars of your generation.
@@TheDarkDresser That's correct. She co-wrote the lyrics with Keith Forsey. Cara was indeed, though, a fierce talent with a tremendously caring heart (as Peter Rice wrote above). Such an incredibly beautiful lady, and an absolutely spectacular voice. She was every bit as talented or better than so many who got more attention. And to add to that, Irene was a sweetheart as well. She will be missed.

Like 5 million stars, this song is indescribable in total excellence. It is about not to be afraid to get up off the couch and do something to make it happen. The film also is the story of reaching out for dreams.
Even if it doesnt work at least you tried. This is a hero
Alguém na quarentena curtindo esse clássico maravilhoso? ❤️🇧🇷

@Markitikki qual clássico do futebol nacional ou internacional?
Professor de português, detected!!!
🙄🙄🙄😏😏😏
She was the black pearl. At that time, the 1980s, her voice had been occupying up and down the world, anyone in South Korea couldn't have seen her shot, but only the music.
Une chanson qui a marqué mes 20 ans et interprétée par une artiste mythique et magnifique. Repose en paix Irène.
irene cara por siempre bella y hermosa, quienes lo siguen escuchando a junio 2019 like a la manito, gracias.

Lyrics
First, when there's nothing
But a slow glowing dream
That your fear seems to hide
Deep inside your mind
All alone, I have cried
Silent tears full of pride
In a world made of steel
Made of stone
Well, I hear the music
Close my eyes, feel the rhythm
Wrap around, take a hold of my heart
What a feeling
Being's believin'
I can have it all, now I'm dancing for my life
Take your passion
And make it happen
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
Now I hear the music
Close my eyes, I am rhythm
In a flash, it takes hold of my heart
What a feeling
Being's believin'
I can have it all, now I'm dancing for my life
Take your passion
And make it happen
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
What a feeling
What a feeling (I am music now)
Being's believin' (I am rhythm now)
Pictures come alive
You can dance right through your life
What a feeling (I can really have it all)
What a feeling (pictures come alive when I call)
I can have it all (I can really have it all)
Have it all (pictures come alive when I call)
(Call, call, call, call)
I can have it all (being's believin')
Being's believin' (take your passion)
Make it happen
(What a feeling)
What a feeling)
What a feeling...forever Irene...

What does "beings believing" mean?
This song is a touchstone for an era. Only because of the soaring vocals and emotion that Irene Cara poured into it.
"What a Feeling" will be lifting hearts to greater heights forever more and Irene Cara is the angel who shepherds that spirit.
She was great in her time and beyond. Gotta tell you, the voice and the dancing.
R.I.P. amada Irene Cara. anos 80's lovely.
This is just ....GOLD!! as I can not think of any other English word to describe it. Quality of this kind puts what's happening in today's entertaiment world to shame, doesn't it?
Irene Cara the Latina singer who made this song so great gone at 63 my heart is broken I loved her songs, now we have the film and the stage musical Flashdance to keep her legacy alive.
Not Latina. Irene's father was black and her mother Irish.
Irene's parents are both latinx: a cuban father and a puertorican mother
I was 14 in 83 and boy I had a pretty solid crush on Irene in those days. RIP Irene 🥹
Goodbye sweet Irene and thanks for all the great memories !You will never be forgotten !...RIP !

twoducks you know someone put a video of dance party USA on Facebook a couple of weeks ago. It was from 1986, and there was an outpouring of comments. Suffice to say we, from the 80s, really miss that era.
A Classic Song....A Beautiful Performance by Miss Irene Cara.... She Shines in that Outfit.... And What a Feeling....She had it All at that Time....!!!!
Remember this song when it was released, and still a great song to lift your spirits
Still loving Irene well into 2021. Amazing artist and performer.
This tune is such a natural rush. One of those perfect cruising songs. In 1983 it was me, my brand new Z28 and Irene filling the sound space.

The soundtrack of my teenage years 😅
Would love to have the 80s back. Love this!
she inspired me back in those days.. i'm 13 yrs younger then her and she dazzled my young girlie self... RIP Irene... I"m missing you already.. you didn't get enough time. this performance.. I love how this shows that they didn't have that dance structure formed yet... she's dancing her own choreography while the backup dancers are doing their own thing.. but it all worked out anyways... xo
There's no compare of what todays music bring to the world and back to the 80's..
Absolutely phanominal
I love the song.
