Around 1980 headed north there was a pull off just short of this bridge. My girlfriend and I stopped and found a trail leading to under the bridge. They were repairing/painting the bridge and had laid out planks underneath across the support system. We ventured out about a third of the way ( as far as the planks went) and this was not a good idea. It was very unnerving once we got out there. Going out onto planks took all your concentration this bridge is very high, but when stopping and contemplating the situation it was spooky. We managed and fortunately I did not become a part of the story.
Matt… Every UA-cam recording you’ve posted over the years deserves an Oscar. Thanks for sharing your adventures & travels in our great state of Oregon. Cheers
Thank you very much. I enjoy putting in the details. The key for me is I only make a video I am excited about. No junk videos just to keep the numbers up here.
So I drove over this bridge on my way to California last month. I didn't have time to make stops, but as I crossed over that chasm, I noticed how high up I was and literally wondered about the bridge below me. Then this video appeared. 😆 Super convenient, thanks Matt!
Ha awesome. I am here for your convenience. Sometimes I wonder if I should just cover every place ever and not care about videos. Would make a lot more money for sure.
Another great installment, Matt! Your narration is simply outstanding and your drone footage is spectacular! Wow, that logjam down below is something else, can’t say I’ve seen one like that outside Spirit Lake!
@@MattCookOregon I didn't even think about that. I love the history of the places you go to, man made or not. I actually found your channel because I wanted to show my husband the Independent mine buildings over in Prineville-again man-made. Too funny. I am an avid hiker so I enjoy nature too:)
That bridge is insane, not a bad place to fly a drone either! That beach looked liked it would have been great. Great overall video as always Matt, I will have to make it down there to check it out!
@@MattCookOregon ha! yeah I've found upload scheduling to be challenging for myself as well. Turns out life gets in the way sometime. Keep up the awesome work!
Thanks for showing off this bridge that is named after me. Kidding, but I do like that my first name shares the bridge name and the structure is two Ts.
Impressive indeed! What's more impressive is the effort to get to good views, not withstanding the parking lot access. I'd bet the restoration in 2017 costs more than the original bridge. Nice paint color. I wonder who choose it? State of Oregon probably has some regulation colors for bridges. Smart dog not wanting to go down steep slope to the beach below. What goes down must come up. Nice trip, thank you. Keep the bridges coming?
Oops I was at the megler bridge in Astoria and should have done a video. Too busy with kids these days to do many videos. I do have a good one on Crack in the Ground coming soon.
@@MattCookOregon A nice drive up to Anacortes avoiding I-5, via Port Townsend and the ferry to Bainbridge Island. I should have written Deception Pass Bridges, built in two sections. As with the Thomas Creek Bridge, you zip over before you get a good look around. It's more pedestrian friendly if you want to get a good view, but Washington wants money to park at the south end. Worth going that way if you head up to the Islands again, even just to stay off the freeway.
I love the bridge, we have one the same shape geologically but arch truss bridge and is only 145 feet tall. a tiny creek at the bottom and they have a board walk down mostly steps.. I didn't want to anger you so please check this out it is safe and very educational I just didn't want you to think I was trying to one up you, Wiki the Mackinac Bridge I promise you'll want to see it in person and you just take the most direct route to the bridge US-2 , or an airplane it's about 2000 miles maybe a little less but the west leg of US-2 ends at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge on I-75.
Looks epic! I am not really a bridge expert but thought this one would be fun. If I did another Oregon bridge it would definitely be the Astoria Megler. Check that one out its freakishly long.

When a trail scares your dog it is a very good idea to turn back!
She has been spooked a few times from wildlife too probably saved me a bear encounter.
Right 😂
So much history and amazing views, as usual! Cheers
Thank you. They always draw me in with the views.
Absolutely beautiful drone views. Very informative.
Thanks Jim! This one needed a drone with not many viewpoints.

Thank you. I almost did another bridge recently, astoria Megler bridge. That would have been cool. Ran out of time.
! ! ! A W E S O M E ! ! !
Thank You Very Much For Sharing !
Thank you very much!
Another great video Matt! You have to wonder how they got the concrete down for the base! (Crain, I assume--but still!)
Makes sense. No historic photos that I could find, thats a shame.
Matt, I enjoyed the video and story telling about he bridge. Especially the bridge design, structure and type. Kudos and Cheers, Mate.
Thanks Jack. Maybe I should just be a bridge channel for awhile? Bet it would get tons of views. But question is would I be happy with it...
@@MattCookOregon Matt, go with what makes you happy. Cheers, Mate.
Great drone footage! Thanks for sharing. 😀👍
Thanks Lynn. The under the bridge drone is a must.
@@MattCookOregon That was pretty cool! You are getting good with your flying. Love my Air 2 S and getting use to it. It’s fast!!
😀👍👍
Great Video. One of your best, great info. Second only to your lighthouse video.
Wow thanks. I actually threw it together pretty quick. Interesting you chose the videos with human made things. Maybe I should do more human history?

Totally enjoyed this video! Well done!
Thank you! A bit out of the ordinary for me to cover man made things but I enjoyed it. Lots of bridges to cover if I get the urge again.
Beautiful views Matt, that bridge sure is impressive. 👍
Thank you!

Thanks North Coast. It is a good one. I was just up at Cape Disappointment last week. Didn't make a single youtube video but had a good time.
Another great video! Keep up the great work. Cheers!

Its ok you can have it. I DECLARE THIS BRIDGE BELONGS TO ZOOMDAK. Legally binding statement.

Jesus Happy recommended to look this place up! Great video! God bless you!
Thank you. Whos jesus happy?
@@MattCookOregon He is a UA-camr that films that Oregon Coast and talks about Jesus!
I've been on the underside span, long way down
Seems like a really nice beach. My dog did not like the scrambling part.
Best point to remember: if the dog is afraid of a trail, turn around.
She has given me some great advice over the years!
Your the Best ! Hello to all the girls !
Thank you Becky. Everyone is happy and healthy. I actually took Ella on the trail for a bit while she held the camera, was too shaky to include!
Almost twice the height of Deception Pass Bridge.
I keep hearing about new bridges since uploading images of this. I been up that way for San Juan a few times but don't think I ever went that way.

Bridges are 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😊
Big bridge fan? There are a lot of options for more bridge videos if people like them.
Is there any gold in that creek ?
I can't think of any mining history to indicate that. Always a chance at gold in creeks though. Lots of cool rocks like agate jasper either way.
