Skip those other rivers and pop down south of border to swim and fish in Smith River. Cleanest river in lower 48. lol Crescent City, Ca come see the redwoods, plus if you’re coming from Medford you’d have to come down hwy 199 anyways to get to brookings or gold beach. Always love driving up to Brookings and going up the Chetco too though. This area is my home and I love it! Even if it is remote it’s so beautiful!
Curry County is a nice county to visit and my least visited Oregon Coast county as a Portland native myself. I've been to Brookings twice, but I haven't touched Gold Beach and Port Orford. I will one day. It's a very remote and beautiful county. Coos and Curry are my two favorite Southern Oregon counties.
I live in rural Curry County. It used to be affordable to live here until the Real Estate people saw $$$. Now the cost of owning a home or property is unattainable for most of us. I'm all for the protected wilderness. "We paved paradise and put up a parking lot"
There should be plenty of residential options in Medford coming online in the next 5+ years. The whole area around Timber Products has been turned into strip malls and 3 story apartment buildings. The same thing is happening by South Gate near Harry & David. Tons and tons of new places to live...I wanna get the heck out of Medford now tho. Too many people. I grew up in a small town, not a crime ridden city with homeless issues...
Southern Oregon native here there are a lot of strange things out in those woods. You can travel 100 miles through the siskiyou mational forest all the way from Galice to Gold beach lotta mystery out there
I grew up there and live just south of border in Crescent City, Ca. Brookings, Oregon is right over border on coast and 30 min north is Gold Beach. It’s a beautiful area, fishing towns and beautiful mountains, rivers, and coastline. Come visit sometime.
I live where your talking about. They aren't protecting anything. They are logging the crap out of it. If I spike camp in one area, within a year, it's logged and a desert. The only break I ever saw was during the pandemic. Lot's and Lot's of logging here guys.
I live in Rogue River and can tell you, Southern Oregon is the most beautiful place to live. Apparently there is a chapter of the Sons of Anarchy in my town too!
You could not be more wrong about the area. I live there, and medford is one of the fastest growing cities on the west coast. And tourists are very quickly destroying and getting land closed.
He’s talking about just north of border on coast, Brookings, Oregon and Gold Beach area. I’m just south of border on coast in crescent city, ca. Medford and Grants Pass are growing but Brookings isn’t.
I live near Bear Camp Road. The poor family actually went down a spur called South Galice Fork (most primitive, narrow, gravel, sharp-rocks road you can get) instead of Bear Camp Road which is 1.5 lanes/single lane but is paved. We did this ourself (in summer) as you have to turn right onto Bear Camp but if you keep going straight you find yourself on South Galice Fork which is why I know how it happened. We turned around at ~8miles in but Kim Family went about ~18miles in full winter + snow. It's amazing they made it that far. Another death occurred on Bear Camp a few years earlier than the Kim family when a guy took a camper up there and got stuck in a snow drift and couldn't get out They didn't find him for a couple of months from what I read. These days, they close it off during winter to avoid mishaps.
If memory serves when the Kim family ended up on the South Galice spur the gate had already been locked by DOT but snowmobilers had cut the lock. Also I'm not sure how much of bear camp rd was paved at the time, and what I heard was their gps told them to go on bearcamp rd even though it was closed for the season.
Well I ran into Bigfoot there and everywhere in Western Oregon the old Forest and logging roads are blocked off by the Forest Service once you get beyond that Southern strip so my guess is there is something there. Go ahead try and drive them to camp you'll see all blocked off except some main routes.
@@SawlteeTricks22 Well i was using GPS mapping from hunting services on two different GPS devices and my phone so yeah it was Forest Service land or BLM.
I grew up in Southern Oregon, lived there the majority of my life but the intrusive government in Oregon makes nearly impossible to enjoy anything in the state. Both my parents are buried there, and sadly, the rest of my immediate family have moved to Texas. I truly miss the beautiful scenery the state has to offer but I'd rather live in a state that's free and you can exercise your God given rights without scrutiny from big brother.
Free unless you need an abortion, or you're a boy who has long hair in certain public school districts, or you're a company who wants to boycott Israel. Texas is also one of the most difficult states to vote in the entire country. Yay freedom.
Yes, we have fallen into the final stage of deep Marxism here. The Governor has been fully treacherous, and the State is almost lost. They want to replace the Beaver as the State Animal with the bust of Fauci. Free "Trans" surgeries for children without parental knowledge or consent. If you're pink, please stay in California, Venezuela, or Cuba. Did we mention how much of the land in the video is run by Mexican Cartels using slave labor on their plantations? Yes, I am completely serious. We need help, not more invasion...
I grew up here before it doubled in population. Lived mostly between the Chetco and Winchuck rivers I roamed on both foot and horseback...Now I'm on the Smith...lol. Like wildrivers❤. Oh you are a realtor😮
Love southern Oregon Coast. It is so beautiful. The rivers are turquoise blue all the time. Friendly people. But I sure would not want to live there. Unless I had that cabin in the woods. So much BLM land and so rugged there are only a few places that are habitable.
About 42% of the state's population lives in the tri-county area around Portland. About 100 miles south of there is college town that has about 9% of the population. In the middle of those is the Capitol where another 8% of the population lives. Putting nearly 60% of the population within about a 100 mile chunk of the state.
I was supposed to live in Oregon. 5 years ago, on a road trip looking at homes, we were able to afford a manufactured home. In Lakeport, Clear Lake, California. We stayed, dammit. I will get there somehow, someday. Liked your video, you get a subscription! Well done. 😊😊
Parts of Alaska are remote with more coast line than the lower 48 combined. No villages, roads or people, that is considered remote. Not so sure about the remote Oregon coast, paved roads and traffick jams
They are protecting it from ourselves. If people lived there it wouldn’t be what it is today. Also the terrain as you stated is very rugged and not easy to build thus is why it was not settled.
We moved here almost 4 years ago and love it most of the time. But it is fairly isolated. Decent shopping is at least 2 1/2 hours away. If you have a medical condition, it might not be a good idea. No doctors for certain conditions. The tourist can get on your nerves. Housing cost are getting out of hand. Start looking early, it took us 4 months to find a house we would consider. Contractors can be over a year out. Very few high paying jobs. I came from an area of 500,000 to an area of 6,500 so it’s very different. Not a lot of entertainment options. If none of that would be a big deal for you, then go for it. It is truly beautiful here.
Klamath count and others are so strict on what you can do and have on your own property that no one wants to buy there. They have some zoning that only allows you to stay overnight for 14 days in a year. Wtf, and only a 8x10 building 😢. So much for freedom
The Josephine Ophiolite is in that region and makes it particularly special. And the serpentine rocks are oh so beautiful. It is essentially where the mantle (oceanic crust) was uplifted to the surface. This brought up a lot of heavier elements to the surface that are toxic to life. It’s why the area has so little biomass but so much biodiversity. It’s tough for life to survive and life that does survive has to really specialize to make it work. Such a special area and I hope it can stay protected. Read recently that a Canadian mining company got rights to mine part of 8 dollar mountain, lets hope that doesn’t come to fruition.
@@BuyingSouthernOregon Yes. Thank you for your reply. I was just wondering why that area hasn't been developed. It's like the valley and nothing else. Is there nothing there to be developed? It's a bit mysterious.
