I believe it was perfected in iOS 7. Since then, the new features and updates has been a mixture of enhancing existing apps or making a new API standard to which developers can gain access to a plethora of new capabilities within the hardware and software. I believe that's a good thing, because not only Apple gives us an exciting plaything for developers to tinker about, but also for developers to provide new features for users to be excited about.
Watching this documentary about the history of IOS brings back so many memories we've made in the early years of smartphones. It made us connect mWore with social media and text messages. This was really well done thank you. You can really see the shift overtime. Started out as trailblazers with really nice innovation for the time, then after Jobs died everything kinda stagnated and they seemed to just see what worked and sticked in Android, then came out with thier version of it later.
Thats exactly how I felt. Not just iOS but a lot of their other releases post-Jobs don't hit the same levels as they used to. And it's not just because Jobs knew how to market - but because he created innovative things. The Action button is a nice touch on the iPhone15 but in general I feel like they've lost the magic.
You need to relize that it was also pushed by glibab trend of having simplistic solid color designs that was adopted everywhere, not just by software companies
A very detailed and indepth description! Thanks! This was very helpful. I'm still clinging onto my iPhone 12 but now I know what features I don't want to miss out on if I can't upgrade my iOS.
I felt like iOS was going down or not really improving much with its general usability until 12, that was a gamechanger for me and since then I've used apple for my main device. I still love androids and will always use them but I slightly prefer how iOS does certain things
It’s weird this wasn’t mentioned, but a major change with iOS 11 was the dropped support for 32bit apps. It made a lot of previous apps that worked perfectly fine on iDevices with iOS 10 get completely locked out of those older apps. Also screen recording was added in that update.
Greg!I'm sure that almost everyone saying that your voice is very soothing. When I watched Apple Explained I was willing to listen to you again. Your voice is scratched something in my ADHD brain. (Although the documentary was operated in dry facts, your voice kept me stuck to the screen, unfortunately of my Windows laptop because I'm a broke student :( )
I know it is probably mostly nostalgia, but I miss the iOS 6 feel. I know this would never happen, but I wish Apple and other companies let you choose the "theme" or appearance of the OS. If you want the look and feel of iOS 6, but with some modern improvements, then you could download that "theme" and apply it. Same with if you like the look of iOS 8 over 16, etc. Same thing I wish Microsoft would do with the Xbox OS. I loved the original "Blades" dashboard of the Xbox 360. I wish these companies would let us choose these things instead of "We know what the best user experience is, so we will force everyone to have that same experience". I know there is so much technical overhead to that, like making sure an App works and feels "right" on X number of different OS themes, but it would be cool.
Most influential and some times aggravating OS at times. First apple product with iOS was iPod that i completely scratched the hell out of the back even tho I tried not too.
IOS 9.0.2 on IPhone 6 was my first experience and is still my favorite when I comes to being jailbroken. I had many awesome tweaks that I wish was updated for modern phones. Furthermore, I was able to have features that was for newer software updates/phones before and after they were released thanks to the talented developers of those tweaks. The only problem I had was the slow down and crashes after too many tweaks was installed.

iOS‘ UI went downhill starting version 7, when it went flat all of a sudden, without having the choice to customize. And the same happened to macOS/OSX past Mavericks. 2013 was a wild time! I remember everyone at my school with an iPhone or iPod Touch (tech nerds and non techy people alike) being so excited to download iOS 7. Imagine being excited about the next version of iOS in 2022.
@@Ryno6465 I remember downloading ios 7 on my ipod touch 5 and how long it took because everyone in the world was also downloading it. My experience with ios 7 was by far the best ios experience i ever had to this day, always loved the flat design since they showed it for the first time and now every phone is with flat design.
@@PotatoToon flat design ruined the world.
@@ibluebox What's so good about the eye candy of 3d design?
I remember when iOS went from a skeuomorphic OS to a minimalist one. I liked it so much, I actually switched to Apple from Android with an iPhone 6+ back when it first came out. And I haven't looked back since.
@TheUigamer hey, thanks for your opinion! 🙄
@TheUigamer iPhones have a strong ecosystem of apps and accessories. There are millions of apps available on the App Store, which means that users can find virtually anything they need or want. Plus, there are a wide range of accessories available for iPhones, such as cases, chargers, and headphones, which can enhance the user experience. Overall, they offer a wide range of features and benefits that make them a good choice for many people. Android and Apple are both good choices. 💗
steve stole apple idea from indians
@@shivambinge not sure what that’s means 🤷♂️

Gonna show this to my kids someday and tell them “back in my day, I had iOS 5 on my iPod and we loved it!”
This is a complete masterpiece of a video. Wow! Thank you! Very well done!
I really enjoyed this longer video from Apple Explained way more compared to the other videos that are shorter!
A 1 hour Apple Explained video? Let me get my snacks
Awesome video. In 2022 it’s so easy to take for granted everything that an iPhone/iOS device can do these days so it’s cool to watch the history to see how we got here.
I’d love one of these about the other Apple platforms: macOS, watchOS, iPadOS, etc.
Yo you are so dope. This video was excellent, thank you for the great content and also no ads, you my dood.
Apple Watches don’t run iOS,They Run WatchOS
Apple Watch’s operating system, watchOS “is iOS” but made for the watch. For example at the start, iPhone ran a version of Mac OS X.
Your cool
I had absolutely no intention of watching this in its entirety,, but it was so well made and moved along at such a clip, I blinked and the hour was over. Great video! You showed great restraint of not going into the weeds on a few hardware features and events that were not strictly iOS-related.
I would love a version of this which specifies which features they actually created and which ones they took from android
smh none at all……
I’m not one to watch videos that are over 10 minutes, but I really enjoyed this whole video. Thanks for all the details!
Crazy to me how thinking back on how much of a disataser the Apple Maps was. Nearly a decade later and with almost all the problems fixed, Apple Maps still has a reputation for being a buggy mess when it’s fine now. Shows how important the early launch is
I want a BTS video. Your videos are Apple-Esque. Clean, well done, small details in timing created well, and most importantly, simple and straight to the point and I appreciate it in the sea of “Before we jump in, a word from our sponsor” or a 5 minute intro for an 8 minute video kind of content.
I was feeling bored so thought I should check out this video of yours. U did a wonderful job🎉.
Outstanding video! As a relatively new Apple convert, I found this very helpful in learning more about iOS.
iOS 6 is the most nostalgic to me
It’s the first os I used when I first got an iPad back in 2012
This is a really in depth overview on the history of iOS, it probably took a lot of work.
Great video!
iOS 10 was my favorite. The clean Control Center sold me.
They need to bring back the UI from IOS 5- IOS 6. It just looks so simplistic and nice.
You need to relize that it was also pushed by glibab trend of having simplistic solid color designs that was adopted everywhere, not just by software companies
Can’t believe we’re up to iOS 16 already where has the time gone 😂😂
A very detailed and indepth description! Thanks! This was very helpful. I'm still clinging onto my iPhone 12 but now I know what features I don't want to miss out on if I can't upgrade my iOS.
I felt like iOS was going down or not really improving much with its general usability until 12, that was a gamechanger for me and since then I've used apple for my main device. I still love androids and will always use them but I slightly prefer how iOS does certain things
This feels like a return-to-form for you, and I'm all for it. This is the content many subscribed for.
It’s weird this wasn’t mentioned, but a major change with iOS 11 was the dropped support for 32bit apps. It made a lot of previous apps that worked perfectly fine on iDevices with iOS 10 get completely locked out of those older apps. Also screen recording was added in that update.
Rip flappy bird
This was so good we need a macOS, watchOS, and iPadOS version!
As a new Apple user this makes for great viewing.
I got a question. Why is only the Fast forward button shown in Apple Music when viewing other songs?
RIP Steve Jobs
Greg!I'm sure that almost everyone saying that your voice is very soothing. When I watched Apple Explained I was willing to listen to you again. Your voice is scratched something in my ADHD brain. It made me watch the full documentary without even distracting by a TikTok!Fantastic job. Keep it up!
Same. I have a 4th gen iPod touch and love the interface!
Apple Pay and News is still not available here in the Philippines
Most influential and some times aggravating OS at times. First apple product with iOS was iPod that i completely scratched the hell out of the back even tho I tried not too.
Been iPhone user since 2018. My first iPhone was the 5S

The iPhone has been around for almost 15 years.
Three cheers for a million views! Such a well done video!
Thank you for making this video and all your others too they are so good I love them thank you for working so hard on this
If you'r reading this I hope you're having a good day
*Finally finished until the end of watching this video.*
*THE most enjoyable thing was Steve Jobs' time when iOS 6 was released and iOS 7 appeared, it was a tense moment, there was a feeling of joy but it also didn't escape the feeling of sadness, and after iOS 8,9,10 was released and so on, there were surprises It's no longer there, everything has become normal.*
*So, the best memories were during Steve Jobs' golden years. There were many good things and those memories will always be in everyone's hearts. The meaning is, at that time togetherness was so close, and the most important thing is that this "moment" will never happen again.*
iOS‘ UI went downhill starting version 7, when it went flat all of a sudden, without having the choice to customize.
And the same happened to macOS/OSX past Mavericks.
That‘s what happens when the customer is not high priority but someone‘s ego on how to do it a particular way and not providing any options.
iOS 7 reveal will always be iconic
Most people don’t even use PC these days because everything can be done on their phone 📱 including banking.
I'll love it when a great presentation comes together❤😏👍
Apple Explained: The movie
LOL
I loved this video. Thanks Greg
we all know ms windows was way more influential otherwise microsoft would not have had to bail out apple. As far as mobile devices more ppl use android.
Excellent review, but when are we getting on display?
17 frickin versions and not one of them has decent file managing, now that's funny
Ugh so true
huh? lies we have the best file management app on ios
I had to pause this to give that like b4 I forget, good good info, more more
Imagine you had to pay for ios updates.
59:19-59:22 - 59:23 in 2020, iOS 14 was revealed which added crucial improvements to the iPhone experience like Apple library
iOS 1-6 was so ugly I hated it, I remember updating my phone to iOS 7 and being so happy

I have iOS 16 :)
Now android 12
I wonder what is that background music you use almost in every of your video
Every financial goal requires patience, dedication and consistent spirit knowing that investment is currently the most lucrative business in the world, both NFT, real estate and Crypto shares are really positively changing people's lives.
Investing in crypto is very volatile and risky which is why most successful investors trade with professional brokers
I heard alot about Mr Jesse Powell and how good he is, please how safe are the profits?
Jesse Powell is an expert, he invested my 3.6ETH into 7.4ETH in the space of 3weeks, Jesse is so consistent and reliable, there's no doubt he is the most trusted broker in the market, such a genuine personality
Thanks, I'm giving mr Jesse Powell a trial of £3k, I hope he helps me build my portfolio.
This is wonderful, obviously he must be a good broker with so much good news about him, please does mr Powell investment services works in all Crypto currency's?
At 19:39 the photo can only be taken with the "Sound down" button. Do not know how it was before. But very nice video, crass research you have made yourself there! Thanks for your upload!
0:01 Gotta stop you there. IOS is in no way the most influential operating system. Most refined? Yes. Best functioning? Probably. But not the most influential.
He definitely meant in terms of cultural impact. Watch any movie where they use a phone; what is it most likely resembling? An iPhone. Ask around what's one mobile phone company you've definitely heard of and the answer that you will most likely be given is: iPhone/Apple.
@@mrflippy3578yeah but Android was more influential in my opinion since most phones nowadays make their OS’ some variation of android
Phenomenal job of tracing the iOS lineage ❤️❤️❤️❤️
