There is another type of Diabetes, which is Type 1.5 or LADA (Latent Autoimmune Diabetes of Adults). I was diagnosed at age 47. It usually presents as Type 2, and within 6 months to 3 years becomes insulin dependent. This was the case for me. Initially normal Type 2 medication worked fine, then it wasn't enough. I was hospitalized with what I thought was dehydration. Three days later I woke from DKA and given the diagnosis of LADA.
