*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

Yes. children at that age can have type 1 diabetes too so it’s best to check with your doctor (at least check her urine and blood sugar level) just to be on the safe side. I hope everything is okay with your daughter z

While a person can develop Diabetes Mellitus (Especially Type 1) at that age, it is rare. But do visit a Paediatrician to rule out Type 2 DM and other diseases which presents with similar symptoms. I pray that your daughter is fine.

My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. They took his blood and it was 600. What I do not understand is how he could have gotten it, since no one in the family has it. But he is winning the battle now. This is good stuff.

Type I diabetes mellitus results from autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells (cells that secrete insulin). This can occur due to many factors including genetics, exposure to environmental toxins, viral infections, etc. I hope your son's doing well, just thought I should share some information that may be helpful :D

I went into keatoacidosis once. I can say that so far, it has been the single-handedly worst experience I’ve ever had in my life. It all happened overnight so I didn’t have any idea until I woke up (a Saturday so i didn’t wake until around 11 am). Constant vomiting, nausea, and exhausted for about an hour until my parents rushed me to the hospital. I recovered quickly but it definitely makes me very anxious when my keytones go above 0.1, even though that is a fairly safe keytone level.
Due to how long my keytones would’ve been high for (at least 8 hours), I feel lucky for having made a quick and full recovery from it. Thank god for free healthcare.

Good explanation but you have 2 Mistakes:
1-We do NOT do ABG regularly because it’s very painful and mor importantly it can lead to artery constriction and ischemia !.
2- We give insulin to stop ketone body formation we aren’t very concerned in decreasing blood sugar level in emergency sitting.
    Thanks for your efforts.

Two things I would add to this is that one of the hallmark signs of ketoacidosis is a musky corn or "popcorn" smell in sweat or urine. I used to get this often especially in my socks and shoes when I exercise, or when I sweat at night my shirt would reek of it. The other thing is that while hypokalemia makes you more acidic, this and ketoacidosis can be better controlled through potassium supplementation, namely potassium citrate. Around 3500mg of potassium is recommended per day, however this is potassium compounds NOT elemental potassium (K+). For example a supplement might say 99mg elemental potassium but provide 350mg potassium. Taking 3500mg+ of elemental potassium would probably be dangerous since excessive potassium causes myocardial infarction and death.

I'd advise you to do a VBG when checking the metabolic state of a patient as it makes more sense, perform an ABG when assessing for gaseous exchange or when suspecting respiratory acidosis or alkalosis.
    Metabolic state- VBG
    Respiratory state- ABG

I suggest checking PH VBG is better rather than ABG.
Once you get your first VBG sample to check PH then it can remain baseline to compare further VBG PH.
ABG is only recommended if any respiratory issues hence to check only PH VBG is better choice.

"K" can be a killer. Both Hyper and hypokalaemia can trigger arrhythmias.
Hypokalaemia can prolong QT interval and even lead to TDP.
On the other hand you can get the peaked T waves, widening of QRS and lead to blocks, VT, etc.

I'm in the maybe/maybe not group.
I've known several, including my father, who've gone into DKA.
      NONE reported fruity breath.
DKA develops slow but hits fast.
      It's not an official symptom.
Fruity breath is from the metabolizing of acetone, so it may me simply a sign of ketosis, not DKA.
NO, KETOSIS AND DKA ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
They involve the same process but they aren't the same.
Similar to the freezing and boiling points.
Both are specific temperatures, bit they are diametrically opposed.
Ketosis will measure in the .5-3 range, perhaps as high as 5
      5-10 are considered deep ketosis
      12-15 is starvation ketosis
      15+ is DKA
      SO
best way to know is to do the test.
Get a meter and test your blood.
      Wipe away all the GOBBLEDYGOOK.
      Preventing DKA is simple
      Control your blood sugar
Lower insulin resistance with a low carb, whole foods diet and exercise
Stay hydrated, dehydration concentrates the blood and pushes glucose levels up.
Stay AWAY drum SGLT-2 INHIBITORS like Invokana, which can cause DKA through dehydration by inhibiting the body's natural physiology to recycle, not eliminate Glucose via the kidneys.
The worry of DKA is overstated.
AS LONG ADD YOU PRODUCE SUFFICIENT INSULIN, DKA will not happen. Insuln and ketones are like two kids on a teeter totter.
In the middle, increasing one and limiting the other is the foxa2 gene.
As long as Insulin is sufficient, ketones will be limited.
This is why DKA in type two is rare and usually caused by external sources, like drugs or dehydration or an infecting illness.
T2D is a chronic state of hyperinsulinemia and Insulin resistance.
Most T2 patients produce SUFFICIENT insulin but become deficient with repeated exposure to toxic glucose levels.
Mainly caused by the official Diabetes diet.
      I'm T2 myself
      Ketogenic eater for 7 yrs
I have normal, non diabetic glucose levels and HbA1c
      I take zero medication
      Per my Dr last week
All my lab results indicate no evidence of diabetes.
Yes, I'm officially in the club
My glucose was 566 say time of my diagnosis and HbA1c was 14.8%
I found low carb within 4 years of diagnosis and I've never looked back.
I lead a FB keto for Diabetes group.
Ketosis is THE answer for diabetes, and it's built right into our biology.
      Let the debate begin.
      I'm hoping not!!! Lol

because providing insulin can cause the glucose to drive into the necessary cells, thereby decreases the formation of ketone bodies (acids (H+))in blood. so less extracellular H+ means less exchange with K+ inside cell. so rapid chance of developing hypokalemia.

Can someone please help me? I’ve been suffering from migraines with nausea and vomiting that lasts all day along with incredible fatigue, for the past year almost. It happens to me at least once a month and I have a toddler. I’m scared that it’s something really serious but a neurologist told me that I have primary migraine disorder but didn’t do any actual tests on me.

Those are the classic symptoms of migraines unfortunately. You need to be on a migraine medication and if you're vomiting and have nausea along with the migraine it is standard to go in by the 3rd day of it to get injections. Migraines are typically hereditary and can start at any age. I have an unspecified migraine with aura diagnosis. If your current treatment is not working I suggest you do a follow appointment and address your concerns.

P.S Imaging doesn't always pick up on migraines and they do basic examinations to diagnose you. Based off of your symptoms and medical history they can diagnose you.

calcium gluconate is given in cocktail with dextrose/insulin/kayexalate and bicarbonate when there are levels of hyperkalemia. It protects the heart
