  • I have been carrying an idea for a very long time, letting it mature in my imagination and waiting for the right project to implement it.
I have wanted to marry wood and antler in a simple, straightforward way that just feels natural. Let me know if you think I succeeded.
Reindeer antler, birch wood, knifemaking, knife handle, knife sheath.

Very few things in life other than children, compare as a Human being, to the feeling of satisfaction when something we envisioned in our minds, is transformed into reality by our own hands. Loved this one. A couple of tips for the next one. When cutting the branch on the saw. cut two sides 90deg. from each other. dress those side flat really quick on the sander or plainer, then move the fence on the saw to the dimension you would like the block to be. then cut the two remaining sides of the block using the dressed sides against the fence. This will give a more accurate block to start with. Also if you have a caliper. measure the guard. or on this sheath the area under the wooden lock ridge. and the point on the handle where the antler will stop. lay out these measurements on each end of the antler so you have guidelines to file to for a closer fitment before the hot forming starts. What a wonderful build. And thank you for taking the time to give us so many engaging camera angles. Loved it.

very inspiring. The complexities and slow careful work provide a satisfaction as much in watching as I'm sure you had in the doing. I'm glad you found the time to create and share with us.

Beautiful sheath! A lot of work that paid off in a great result. I dont think it is likely to crack - how often do you drop the sheath? I think it will give you many years of faithful service.

Very good work and video, brother. I have used wet rawhide or animal sinew, heated in place to strengthen sheathes and handles. It can make an interesting contrast material, as well as strengthen things remarkably. You probably already know this, but it is fun for me to talk about it. Are you still forging blades? 'Hope to see one soon if you are. May the good LORD bless and keep you, Vahid.

Thank you Richard, yes I used to use rawhide for knife sheaths. It really makes the best sheaths. Unfortunately I haven't been able to forge more. I would like to though.

It looks like there is a crack already or did I see it wrong? I think it looks great anyway when it comes to the idea I really like it and I think that sometime in the future I might try to copy it. I came to your channel to learn something and I did, well at least I think I did 😉 I have been making 7 knives so far and am working on numbers 8 and 9 beside that I'm trying to make a kuska.
