TREEBEARD WALKING STICK woodcarving

- Happy end of 2021 with a new walking stick build, carving a "TreeBeard" wood spirit into a nice piece of Ash wood. The grain really made this woodcarving come alive... stick around until the end to see all the great colors and patterns pop when the Tung and Teak oil is applied. Hope you enjoy the process and let me know if you want to see more wood spirits or patterned walking sticks for the new year.

Nice piece of ash !
Lol, thanks!
It’s just beautiful. Very nice work but, at least to me, I just can’t picture myself carrying that big, heavy walking stick in my every other day 2-3 mile hiking exercise.
Thanks, I appreciate it. They can be made in different sizes and diameters so that they can be for different people. Thanks for watching
I do like the wood spirits would like to see more of that, love the grain on this too great Job thanks for sharing. You do great work.
Thanks, I will see if I can do a few more in the new year!
Looks better as a Robin Hood era Little John Quarter Staff!
I can see it! Thank you for watching

Wow! Well Done! RWB ❤
Thanks!
Good.
Thanks!
Great Work 👍
Thanks
Great job, you should tape a furnace filter to a box fan and put it in front of you. It’ll, suck most of that dust into it.
Good point, for now I do all my Dremel work in the garage and it keeps most of the mess out of my shop. But I have seen a few of those fan filter arrangements and they work well. Thanks!
Very cool!
Thank you very much!
@@JasonHedrich You're welcome!
Nice Stick Jason, Happy New Year!
Thank you very much! And happy new year to you as well. Thanks for watching
Beautiful work as always. I have just started making walking sticks and your videos are both inspiring and instructive. Thank you for making great content.

Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Fantastic
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it
Ive been excited for yours next video.
It looks really awesome, I like the way the epoxy turned out, the depth is nice. I bet you could carve Groot from Gardian of the Galaxy.
You should put the description the type of carving tips you were using 😉 on your Dremel.
Happy New Year!!
Thank you so much for watching. Good point on the Dremel bits. Yes I treated myself to some new Kutzall Coarse bits... they worked well on the hard Ash. And I have been thinking about Grout... something to think about!!! Happy New Year to you as well.
@@JasonHedrich I have one kutzal bit. It's nice
absolutely! and they work great for removing alot of wood quickly... faster than the HSS burrs.
@@JasonHedrich For Sure 😁
Very nice result.... Do you also use other finishes like Danish oil and polyurethane On other projects.? Thank you and best wishes
Yes, I've used those finishes as well. They all work out well on sticks! Thanks for watching
I really enjoyed this. Do you think the epoxy filled voids compromise the structural strength to any serious degree? I'm thinking drilling a couple small holes inside the void and inserting a piece of reinforcing wire lengthwise would counter that. May be over the top but then again ...
Thank you! In fact, I believe filling the voids with epoxy adds to the structural integrity of the sticks. It bonds to all the surfaces and holds those parts together. I have found it stiffens up the members at the zones where the epoxy has been filled in. Much like river epoxy table slabs are held together by the epoxy pours, the sticks are the same way.
@@JasonHedrich Sounds plausible. That's the other side of my question coin. Thank you for the reply.
@@srf2112 happy to help. Let me know if you have any other questions!
what is that small tool you were using to take off the wood?????? it is red and you used both hands to use it.........
It’s a Spokeshave from Stanley… very handy for shaping sticks!
What kind of bits are you using?
In the rotary tool I use Kutzall bits, HSS burrs and even some diamond grit burrs for smoothing out.
do you sell ? I would love to buy it. Let me know
I have sold a few locally as shipping tends to be high. Write to me at jhedrich73@gmail.com and we can discuss it. Thanks for watching
Can you make me one
