  • Welcome back to a complex walking stick. A client had reached out requesting a Staff of Guidance and its a big one! We have a crystal sphere on top held by a triple claw, a twist transition, a paracord wrap handle, Celtic Weave pattern along the shaft, a secondary handle and finally tapered down to a rubber foot. This was carved out of Red Oak and finished with Provincial stain, three coats of polyurethane and a beeswax finish.
    Stick around, we have alot of information in this video and hope you enjoy the carving!

    I would love to have a staff like this, but made from 9 different types of wood in it. Nice job.

      Thank you! Had to find a way to keep the round sticks cantered below the drill bit! It works well.

    You are a freakin bad ass! Dude your hands are a gift to this abrasive world! I share your passion and am awed by your knowledge! May i ask how you came to this work and were you passed down the tools? Teachings? Did u go to school? What does something like this cost? Where are you from? And how old are you? Youre skills look like one who has had lots of practice! I love it, thank you!

      Thank you very much! I’ll try and answer as best I can… I’m a structural engineer by training and that’s my day job, I try and do carving as a hobby on my free time. I took a short carving course about 20 years ago and have been teaching myself as I go. Some tools were passed down through family but mostly bought them as I needed them (and could afford them). I learn from each project and still have a lot to learn but it’s a great journey and the woodworking community is great at sharing knowledge. Thanks for watching and your kind words!

      Yes, I bet it did. I have done a bit of carving but stick to animal heads. Making hiking staffs are my favorite sticks.@@JasonHedrich

    It would be interesting to know where to find Red Oak staffs because the box stores don't often carry quality!

    • @JasonHedrich
      @JasonHedrich  5 місяців тому

      In Montreal we can get red oak in our local big box stores. Easy enough to find here. Must be a local supply chain availability

    would you mind sharing your beeswax/oil/tripoli ratio?

    • @JasonHedrich
      @JasonHedrich  3 місяці тому

      I would but I bought this mix from a woodturner while I was visiting NYC so I'm not sure of the ratio... but it works great!
